At four in the morning, eight silhouettes battered by the storm were walking on the stony path of the Bodrum Marina. There was no stealth, infiltration, or tactical flanking maneuver. Before them, rising like a black giant in the middle of the sea, surrounded by Nazir’s sickly green shields, stood Bodrum Castle. Darius halted his steps. Locked in his castle, playing god upon the eighth and ninth Port stones, Nazir expected them to enter like rats through the underwater labyrinths in the dark. But Darius’s answer to him would be much louder. “Kuzey,” said Darius, without taking his eyes off that massive, centuries-old main gate of wood and iron. “Knock on the door.” Kuzey lowered his massive, illegal ebony wand modified with a core from his shoulder. Stabbing the butt of the wand hard into the wet concrete of the Marina, he aligned its barrel directly with the castle’s main gate. When he pressed his eye to the magical lens, the ancient Carian runes on the wand began to shine with a blinding golden yellow. The energy accumulating at the tip of the barrel vaporized the surrounding raindrops in mid-air. “Bombarda Maxima... Catapulta!” The massive golden energy ball shooting from Kuzey’s wand crossed the empty space over the sea, whistling terrifyingly. The spell hit the castle’s main gate and the green shield protecting it simultaneously. A deafening, earth-shattering explosion occurred. That massive iron gate, which had withstood many sieges over centuries, and the stone walls around it were torn like paper and shattered. The massive fireball hurtling into the castle turned dozens of mortal guards in the courtyard to ash before they even knew what hit them. “Inside!” roared Darius. The eight-person death squad poured through the breached gate like an avalanche. Alaz was at the very front with his dragon-scale armor and modified pump-action shotgun. The moment Nazir’s masked wizards they encountered raised their wands, Alaz pulled the trigger. The bullets spewing dragon fire melted the masked men’s shields in seconds and hurled them backward. “This is our home!” shouted Alaz, oblivious to the blood splattering on his face with every shell he pumped. Barlas and Okan, two generations that had never fought side-by-side during their Ministry days, were now working back-to-back like a death machine. The rapid red curses (Expulso) emerging from Okan’s illegal combat wand combined with Barlas’s controlled and ruthless cutting spells (Sectumsempra), turning the courtyard into a bloodbath. Meltem demonstrated her speed against the arrows and curses rained down upon them from the upper ramparts of the castle. Bouncing over the ruined stones, she climbed the ramparts and entered among the archers above like a hurricane with her curved knives dripping basilisk poison. Screams mingled with the sounds of lightning. When they reached the middle of the courtyard, Nazir’s last line of defense in the castle, the animated bronze knight statues, began advancing on them, dragging their heavy swords. “Vera!” shouted Lidya, gathering her dark shadows in her hands. “Break the metal’s memory, not their minds!” Vera aimed her wand at the statues with the power she drew from her black market agate necklace. “Confundo Maxima!” She plunged her mind magic directly into the magical cores inside the statues, stunning them. Lidya, in that split-second gap, turned her shadows into massive vise arms and twisted the knights around themselves, turning them into piles of iron. Darius stopped when he reached the exact center of the courtyard, beneath the ruins of the French Tower. All the defenses around them had collapsed. Blood, soot, and rain had mixed together. At that moment, the stone floor beneath their feet shook violently. The doors to the massive labyrinth beneath the French Tower swung open to both sides with a loud creak, as if opening to hell. From below hit a dense wave of heat, smelling of sulfur and blood, which they recognized all too well. “That was a nice show,” echoed Nazir’s voice from the depths of the labyrinth. The acoustics of the castle amplified his voice as if thousands of people were speaking at once. “But you only cleared away my dogs at the door. My true kingdom is below. The Eighth Port is weeping blood, Widdershins. Come down and face your destiny.” Darius gripped his dark wand tightly and took the first step toward the darkness of the labyrinth. His team, reloading their weapons, followed right behind him to follow him to the death. 43Please respect copyright.PENANADiwZTklKNx
