Ayla had always loved quiet places.

But the truth was…

She hadn't always been quiet.

There was a time when Ayla laughed loudly.

A time when she trusted people without questioning their intentions.

A time when she believed that the people she loved would never become the reason for her tears.

She used to talk about her dreams without fear.

She wanted to travel.

She wanted to write.

She wanted to see places she had only seen in pictures.

And most importantly…

She wanted to become someone her younger self would be proud of.

But life had a different plan.

It started with small disappointments.

A promise that wasn't kept.

A friendship that slowly turned into distance.

Words that were said without thinking…

and words that were never said when they should have been.

Ayla kept forgiving.

Again.

And again.

Until one day, she realized something painful.

She had become so busy understanding everyone else…

that nobody had stopped to understand her.

So she stopped explaining herself.

She stopped telling people when something hurt.

She started saying, “I'm fine.”

Even when she wasn't.

And slowly…

the girl who once spoke about everything became the girl who spoke to Allah about everything.

That was when her relationship with Allah changed.

One night, after another difficult day, Ayla sat alone beside her window.

Her eyes were full of tears.

She didn't know what to ask for anymore.

So she simply raised her hands.

“Ya Allah…”

Her voice broke.

“I don't understand why You are taking so many things away from me.”

She wiped her tears.

“But I know You understand what I don't.”

For a moment, there was only silence.

Then she whispered:

“Maybe what I am losing is not meant to stay.”

That night, Ayla learned something she would never forget.

Sometimes Allah doesn't remove people from your life to punish you.

Sometimes He removes them because He knows what you cannot see.

And sometimes…

what feels like the end is actually the beginning of healing.

From that night onward, Ayla stopped asking Allah,

“Why me?”

Instead, she began asking,

“What are You teaching me?”

Years passed.

The wounds became quieter.

They never completely disappeared.

But Ayla learned how to live without letting them control her.

That's why she loved the mountains.

They reminded her that something could be silent…

and still be strong.

She opened her notebook and wrote:

“I miss the girl I used to be sometimes.”

She paused.

Then continued.

“But maybe I shouldn't.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Because she didn't know what I know now.”

“She didn't know that people can leave.”

“She didn't know that hearts can change.”

“She didn't know that some prayers are answered by Allah through distance.”

Ayla closed her eyes.

Then smiled softly.

“And she didn't know that Allah would still be there when everyone else wasn't.”

She closed the notebook.

For the first time, she wasn't ashamed of her past.

It had hurt her.

Yes.

But it had also brought her closer to Allah.

And maybe that was the part of her story she had been afraid to admit.

She hadn't lost herself completely.

She had simply become someone new.

Someone quieter.

Someone stronger.

Someone who understood that peace wasn't found in having everything you wanted.

Peace was found in trusting the One who knew what you needed.

Ayla stood up and looked toward the mountains.

She whispered,

“Alhamdulillah… for what stayed.”

She took a breath.

“And Alhamdulillah… for what left.”

She didn't notice someone standing far behind her.

Rayyan.

He had heard only the last few words.

He didn't know what had happened to her.

He didn't know why she carried so much silence.

But for the first time, he understood something.

Ayla wasn't running away from the world.

She was learning how to live in it again.

Rayyan looked toward the sky.

“Allah…”

He smiled faintly.

“Whatever her story is, let her find peace in it.”

Then he turned around and left.

Neither of them knew it yet…

but the distance between them was slowly becoming smaller.

And soon, Rayyan would finally ask the question he had been carrying for weeks:

“Why do you always look like you're saying goodbye to something?”

Ayla would have an answer.

But she wasn't sure she was ready to tell him.

Not yet.
