Rayyan had been coming to the mountains long before he noticed Ayla.

At first, it had been his place of escape.

Later, it became his place of prayer.

it became the place where he saw her.

The girl who always came alone.

The girl who sat quietly as if the mountains knew something about her that the rest of the world didn't.

He had noticed her long before she noticed him.

Every evening, Ayla would sit on the same rock, open her notebook, write something, and then stare at the mountains for what sometimes felt like hours.

Rayyan never approached her.

Not because he wasn't curious.

But because he understood something about people who loved silence.

Sometimes they don't need questions.

They just need someone who knows how to stay quiet with them.

And Rayyan knew a lot about silence.

Because once, he had been a boy who hated it.

Years ago, Rayyan had been different.

He laughed easily.

He trusted people without hesitation.

He believed that the people he loved would always remain in his life.

And he believed that if he prayed hard enough, Allah would give him exactly what he asked for.

Then life taught him otherwise.

He never imagined waking up one morning and having to accept a life without them.

But sometimes life changes without asking permission.

He had locked his bedroom door.

Everyone thought he was sleeping.

But he was sitting on the prayer mat with tears running down his face.

His hands were raised.

His voice was barely a whisper.

“Ya Allah…”

He couldn't say anything else.

For several minutes, he simply cried.

Then he finally whispered,

“Please bring them back.”

That was all he wanted.

He didn't ask for anything else.

Not happiness.

Not success.

Not anything for himself.

Just one thing.

One person.

He prayed the same prayer for days.

Then weeks.

But nothing changed.

And slowly, Rayyan became angry.

Not with the person who had left.

Not even with himself.

He was angry because he didn't understand.

“If Allah can do everything… why didn't He answer me?”

That question stayed inside him for a long time.

He stopped talking about it.

Stopped explaining his sadness.

Stopped expecting anyone to understand.

People thought he had moved on.

He hadn't.

He had simply learned how to hide the pain.

Until one night, something inside him changed.

Rayyan was sitting alone after Isha.

The room was dark except for the soft light coming through the window.

His Qur'an was open in front of him.

He wasn't searching for an answer anymore.

He was simply reading.

And for the first time, he realized something he had never understood before.

Maybe Allah had heard every prayer.

Maybe the answer had been no.

And maybe that no had been mercy.

A tear fell onto the page.

Rayyan lowered his head.

“Ya Allah…”

His voice was calmer this time.

“I don't understand Your plan.”

He took a slow breath.

“But I trust You.”

That night, he stopped asking Allah to give him what he wanted.

Instead, he began asking:

“Ya Allah, give me what is good for me—even when my heart wants something else.”

That prayer changed him.

Not immediately.

Healing rarely happens in a single night.

But slowly…

he became softer.

He learned that losing someone didn't mean Allah had abandoned him.

He learned that unanswered prayers were not always ignored prayers.

And most importantly, he learned that sometimes Allah removes something from your hands because He is preparing to place something better in your life.

Not necessarily another person.

Sometimes…

peace.

Sometimes faith.

Sometimes a version of yourself you never knew existed.

Years later, Rayyan sat on that same mountain.

And then he noticed Ayla.

At first, he didn't know why she caught his attention.

Maybe it was the way she looked at the sky.

Maybe it was the sadness hidden behind her calm expression.

Or maybe…

he simply recognized something familiar.

Pain.

The kind that doesn't ask to be noticed.

The kind that learns to smile.

The kind that says I'm fine because explaining the truth feels too exhausting.

Rayyan didn't know her story.

But he knew one thing.

Ayla was running from something.

And perhaps, in some strange way, so was he.

One evening, Ayla stood up and walked away.

Her notebook slipped from her hand without her noticing.

Rayyan saw it.

He picked it up.

He didn't open it.

He simply waited.

The next day, when Ayla returned, he held it out to her.

“You forgot this.”

She looked surprised.

“You could have read it.”

Rayyan shook his head.

“I could have.”

“Then why didn't you?”

He smiled.

“Because some things are meant to be read only when the person who wrote them is ready to share them.”

Ayla looked at him for a moment.

Something about those words touched a place inside her she had kept hidden.

“Thank you.”

Rayyan nodded.

Neither of them said anything more.

But sometimes…

the beginning of a friendship isn't a conversation.

Sometimes it's simply the feeling that you are safe around someone.

Ayla sat down.

Rayyan stayed a little distance away.

The mountains stood silently before them.

And for the first time, Ayla didn't feel the need to leave.

That evening, Rayyan looked toward the fading sunlight.

He thought about his past.

About the person he had lost.

About all the prayers he once thought had gone unanswered.

Then he looked at Ayla.

He didn't know why Allah had placed her in this chapter of his life.

He didn't know whether she would stay.

He didn't know what tomorrow would bring.

But he had learned not to force answers anymore.

Some chapters are beautiful precisely because we don't know how they will end.

He quietly whispered,

“Ya Allah… if she is meant to be a part of my life, let it bring us closer to You.”

Ayla didn't hear him.

But perhaps Allah did.

And that was enough.

That night, Ayla returned home and opened her notebook.

She wrote:

“Today I met someone who didn't ask me why I was broken.”

She paused.

Then added:

“He simply sat beside the pieces.”

She stared at the sentence.

Then smiled faintly.

But she didn't know…

Rayyan had his own broken pieces.

And perhaps that was why he knew how to recognize hers.

Two people.

Two different pasts.

Two hearts carrying things they had never spoken about.

And one mountain that had quietly witnessed both their prayers.

Neither of them knew it yet.

But their stories had already begun to cross.

And somewhere between Ayla's fear of being hurt again and Rayyan's decision to trust Allah with whatever came next…

something was beginning.

Something neither of them had asked for.

Something neither of them had planned.

Something that would test both their hearts.

Because sometimes…

Allah doesn't bring people into our lives to complete us.

He brings them to teach us how to return to Him.

And Rayyan had a feeling—

Ayla was going to teach him something too.
