“Open it.”

Raghav hesitated.

Then clicked.

The screen flickered.

A single title appeared:

Silence filled the room.

Meera felt something cold settle in her chest.

“Scroll,” she said quietly.

To divide human consciousness into controlled behavioral segments.

Use repetitive auditory triggers to activate specific identity responses.

Raghav leaned back slightly.

Her eyes were fixed on that last sentence.

Then she spoke slowly.

“We are dealing with a mind that was trained to act… and is now forgetting why.”

Raghav turned toward the interrogation room.

Inside, Subject 07 sat quietly.

Too quietly.

“Then who is committing the murders now?” he asked.

Meera’s expression didn’t change.

But her answer did not comfort him.

“That’s the problem.”

A pause.

Then—

“If the violent identity is fading… something else may be taking its place.”

At that exact moment—

the lights flickered.

Just once.

Then steadied.

Inside the room, Subject 07 slowly lifted his head.

No sound had been played.

No speaker activated.

Nothing triggered.

Yet—

his lips moved.

Softly.

Almost gently.

“I heard it.”

Raghav froze.

Meera’s breath caught.

“Play the recording back,” she said quickly.

The technician rewound the audio logs.

Silence.

No sound.

No “ding dong.”

Nothing.

Meera stepped back slowly.

Her voice dropped to a whisper.

“It’s no longer outside.”

Raghav felt a chill run down his spine.

“Then where is it?”

Meera looked toward Subject 07.

Whose eyes now held something unfamiliar.

Something deeper than fear.

Something empty.

“Inside him.”

And in the silence that followed—

even without speakers…

even without a bell…

both of them almost felt it.

Not real.

But present.
