Chapter 4: Inside His Mind

The room was silent except for the ticking clock.

Subject 07 sat across from Dr. Meera, his hands resting still on the table.

Too still.

Like even movement required effort.

Meera observed him carefully.

“Do you remember your name?” she asked.

A pause.

“…Yes.”

“Say it.”

Another pause.

This time longer.

“…I don’t feel like it belongs to me.”

Meera wrote something down.

Across the glass window, Officer Raghav watched, arms crossed.

“Ask him about the sound,” he said through the intercom.

Meera nodded slightly.

She leaned forward.

“When you hear it… what happens?”

The man’s breathing changed.

Not faster.

Just… uneven.

Like something inside him shifted slightly.

“It starts small,” he whispered.

“A vibration… inside my head.”

His fingers twitched.

“Then everything becomes quiet.”

“How quiet?”

He looked up.

His eyes were different now.

Distant.

“Like the world is still there… but I am not in it.”

Meera stayed calm.

“And after that?”

A long silence.

Then—

“I think someone else walks in.”

Raghav stiffened behind the glass.

Meera didn’t react outwardly.

“Someone else?”

The man nodded slowly.

“But… they don’t feel like a stranger.”

His lips trembled slightly.

“They feel like a version of me… that I don’t want to meet.”

The air in the room felt heavier.

Meera decided to push further.

“What does that version do?”

The man’s eyes dropped to his hands.

For the first time—

they began to shake.

“I don’t know.”

A pause.

Then quieter:

“But people stop moving after.”

Silence.

Even the clock felt louder now.

Meera gently placed a small recorder on the table.

“We’re going to try something,” she said.
