Analysis
The following episode was focused on the lesson that there are more important things in life than money. Sometimes money will not solve everything; otherwise, we wouldn’t have the famous proverb that all that glitters is not gold. It is dangerous to flaunt wealth carelessly because not everyone has good intentions. Moreover, this episode highlighted Naruto’s important statement, which is, “You can’t just buy your way out of everything; there are times when money won’t work when you have to do it on your own.” Naruto helped Kunihisa realise this, as I will show in my analysis.
Naruto is ordered to show a spoiled rich kid named Kunihisa a typical day in the life of a ninja. At the beginning of the episode, the scene takes place at the Hokage’s office, where Tsunade informs Naruto about the details of his mission. She said to him, “The client’s name is Kunijiro, an old friend. He started with nothing and made himself into one of the richest and most successful rare gem dealers around.” She also went on to say, “Your mission is to look after his only son and heir, Kunihisa.” While they are having a conversation, Kunijiro and his son, Kunihisa, arrive at the Hokage’s office.
At first, Naruto gets excited about being the escort of a VIP, but later finds out his mission is to babysit him since he wants to play Ninja for the day. In other words, he got a typical D-rank mission, whereas, as stated by the Narutopedia website, it poses no risk to the ninja’s life and usually consists of odd jobs like farming and babysitting work. This is why he was also given other regular missions such as cleaning the pond, repairing a bridge, and taking care of a feral pig, and now he has babysitting on his list. This frustrates him because Naruto believes that Tsunade tricked him since she never told him that he had to babysit. Tsunade is unbothered and orders him to play ninja for a day with Kunihisa. Afterwards, Naruto escorts Kunihisa outside, who is accompanied by guards in suits. He must finish his other missions and let Kunihisa accompany him.
The kid has an annoying habit of continually flaunting his wealth to get whatever he wants. The first regular mission on Naruto’s list was to clean the pond. Before doing that, he shows Kunihisa how, as a ninja, he stands on top of water due to his chakra. Afterwards, he asks Kunihisa to help him clean the pond, but warns him that the pond is tricky and if he steps on the wrong spot, he could get stuck. Therefore, he told him to stay at the bank; however, it was too late since Kunihisa had already stepped into the pond and gotten stuck. Naruto panics and prepares to save him, but Kunihisa tells him not to worry because he seemingly has a ninjutsu of his own.
Kunihisa seemingly uses his hand signs to activate his ninjutsu; however, it turns out that he tossed huge amounts of money in the air, which caused the guards in suits to jump into the pool to save him. The guards happily pick up the money that fell into the pool one by one. When they seemingly drowned, he tossed the money in the air once again, and the guards happily came out of the water to get the money. Kunihisa is spoiled since he is just throwing money around like it’s nothing. It doesn’t bother him at all, which is why it is annoying when he flaunts his wealth to get whatever he wants.
Moreover, after they finished cleaning the pool, they walked into the forest with two guards accompanying Kunihisa. Naruto wonders who they are, and Kunihisa says they are just guards who are supposed to look after him and protect him. Along the way, he tosses money in front, where other guards in suits scramble for it, and Kunihisa walks on top of them. He carelessly treats money like it’s nothing and treats his guards like peasants.
Another incident to show that Kunihisa continually flaunts his wealth is when they arrive at a bridge that is built on wood and has a rope to support it from one end to the other. When Naruto walked halfway on the bridge, he asked Kunihisa to cross the bridge. Kunihisa got a bit scared, doubting the safety of the bridge. Despite Naruto’s efforts to convince him to cross the bridge, Kunihisa refused. Therefore, to check if it’s safe, Kunihisa seemingly used Ninja Art: Substitution Jutsu, where he tossed money once again on the bridge, where one of the guards happily took it. One would think that would convince him to cross the bridge, but no, he decides to toss another batch of money once again on the bridge, where this time, various guards scramble for it.
To make matters worse, he tossed another batch of money on the bridge, where the guards scrambled for it, and that’s when the bridge broke. As a result, Naruto and the rest of the guards fell into the lake. When this happened, instead of worrying if they were okay, Kunihisa said to himself, “So it wasn’t safe.” He is not even socially aware that he is the one who instigated the fall of the bridge. His lack of social awareness is baffling because even though Naruto reprimanded him, Kunihisa said, “You should be happy I wasn’t on the bridge when it broke.” This all happened under the cliff, where Kunihisa once again tossed a bunch of money on the ground, and the guards scrambled for it. Kunihisa is reckless, and his recklessness in flaunting his wealth gets him into trouble.
While the guards were scrambling for money, two mysterious enemies were watching from a distance, and one of them said, “That kid is throwing around money like it’s going out of style.” Since they noticed that he only had one genin to protect him, they made plans to abduct the kid so that they could hold him for ransom. Kunihisa’s recklessness put a target on his back.
Meanwhile, Naruto and Kunihisa, accompanied by two guards in suits, are on their way to a farm where Naruto is supposed to take care of a feral pig that has been bothering some farmers. Along the way, they come across a huge, angry black pig that is the size of an elephant. To tackle the situation, Naruto activated his shadow clones, but they were ineffective in their strength. Therefore, this is where Kunihisa relies on his wealth to solve the dangerous situation. He seemingly used his cash clone jutsu when his guards arrived disguised as him so that they could attack the pig. It didn’t work out, and as a result, Kunihisa ended up in a deadly situation where he was facing a pig closely in the face. The kid was cocky, but now he realizes he is in trouble, so he cowardly steps away from it and blames Naruto for making him do it, which results in the pig chasing after Naruto. Kunihisa is so spoiled to the extent that he puts himself in danger. His belief that money would solve the situation is appalling!

The reason why Kunihisa behaves like a selfish, spoiled brat
Eventually, Naruto solved the pig problem, and while walking in the forest with two guards accompanying Kunihisa, Naruto reprimanded him, saying that he was a selfish, spoiled kid. Kunihisa responded by saying, “I bet you don’t have a lot of money, am I right? I find the poor people tend to lose their tempers a lot,” so he instructed the guards to give Naruto a briefcase of money, too, but Naruto tossed the money in the river. As a result, a dialogue takes place between them where Naruto reprimands him:
Naruto: You can’t just buy your way out of everything; there are times when money won’t work, when you have to do it on your own.
Kunihisa (annoyed and looking away): Huh, I suppose if I didn’t have any money, I would believe that too. friend
Naruto: Man, are you like this all the time? How do you even make friends with an attitude like that?
Kunihisa shows him money. What do you think? It’s easy.
Naruto: So, what you’re saying is that you buy your friends?
Kunihisa walks away with the guards, saying:
Kunihisa: Sure, and when I lose one, I just buy another.
Naruto: But Kunohisa...
Kunihisa (emotional): That’s why I didn’t want a ninja from a little village. You’ll never understand, you’re too poor. It’s stupid.
Afterwards, the kid runs off, and the guards catch up to him.
The dialogue shows why Kunihisa behaves like a selfish, spoiled brat. He never met anyone who genuinely wanted to be his friend. Due to his wealth, some took advantage of him when they wanted to fulfil their desires. Even when it comes to friends, he loses them because they leave as soon as they get what they need from him, and since he doesn’t like feeling lonely, he ends up buying another friend. As a result, he has this mindset that everything can be solved with money. Since he is just a kid, he can’t help it when he flaunts his wealth. This is sad, which somehow makes the audience a bit sympathetic towards him since, besides his father, he never met anyone who cared for him for who he was and not for his wealth. The good news is that Naruto will be one of the first people, besides his father, to care about him for who he is and not for his wealth.
Trouble arises when kidnappers attempt to abduct the kid for ransom, and Kunihisa, out of money, is unable to summon his bodyguards, who have been paid off by the kidnappers. After running off, he stops along the path because he is hungry. He asks the guards to buy him food, but they tell him that there is nothing there. After some time, Kunihisa could smell food from a distance, and when he saw fish cooked in a fire that was close to a lake, he ate it, not realising that the kidnappers had set a trap.
While he was eating, the kidnappers attempted to capture him, but luckily Naruto arrived on time and knocked them out, and they ended up landing in the water. When Naruto let him know what could have happened to him, he wasn’t surprised. He shrugged it off, saying, “Oh, it was just another kidnapping attempt, that’s all.” He also said, “It happens all the time because I’m stinking rich.” This further makes the audience feel sympathetic towards him in the sense that not only could he not find genuine friends, but he also had to worry about kidnappers attempting to hold him for ransom.
Kunihisa attempts to give Naruto money so that he can find food to eat. Naruto responds by saying to him, “Listen to you; you have got it stuck in your head that money is going to solve everything.” Naruto feels sympathetic and decides to demonstrate to him that money can’t solve everything by catching a fish with his kunai.
Meanwhile, the kidnappers who were tossed into the lake by Naruto came up with another plan to abduct Kunihisa. While they were conversing, they came across the money that was tossed by Naruto in the river and planned to pay Kunohisa’s guards in exchange for him. They could have taken their money and left, but since they were greedy, they decided to abduct the kid and get more money.
Meanwhile, Naruto taught Kunihisa how to catch fish with his kunai. He tried, but he failed on the first try, and the kunai ended up in the forest. So, he goes to look for the kunai in the forest with the two guards accompanying him. Along the way, that’s when they came across the kidnappers with the other guards behind them. When Kunihisa realised that the guards had betrayed him, he tried to offer the guards more money, but due to his recklessness, he realised that he had run out of cash. To make matters worse, the two guards accompanying him betrayed him as well. One of them said, “I never liked working for you anyway; you spoiled little brat.” As a result, one of the two guards held him hostage. Judging by the way the kid was treating the guards like peasants, one can’t blame them for betraying him. Kunihisa is in trouble until Naruto arrives to save him.
Naruto helps him to escape and teaches him that there are more important things in life than money. Naruto arrived in the nick of time, and he kicked the two guards who were accompanying Kunihisa from behind. They both passed out and when the kidnappers realised that Naruto could pose a problem to their plan, they tried to offer Naruto money in exchange for Kunihisa so that they could hold the boy ransom; however, Naruto refused since he told them that there were just some things in life you can’t just buy. As a result, Naruto carries the boy on his back and retreats.
The kidnappers pursue them, and luckily, Naruto and Kunihisa temporarily manage to escape from their enemies. They arrive at the broken bridge (the one that broke due to Kunihisa’s recklessness). Since there was no bridge to cross to the other side, Naruto wrapped a rope around a kunai and tossed it to the other side, where he wrapped a rope around the tree to create a way for them to pass. Afterwards, Naruto ties the other end of the rope to Kunihisa and tells him to jump to the other side since the enemies are on their way. However, Kunihisa gets scared.
Meanwhile, when the enemies arrived at the broken bridge, they trapped Naruto by crushing him so that the other kidnapper could abduct Kunihisa. However, when the kidnapper comes close to Kunihisa, Naruto trips him, which causes him to fall into the lake and, at the same time, push Kunihisa to the other side. He hits his face on the surface of the cliff, but he is safe and sound. Moreover, when Kunihisa notices that parts of the cliff are about to fall off, he warns Naruto that the cliff is about to collapse. So, Naruto activated his shadow clone jutsu, and they all fell off the cliff and were about to fall into the lake.

Kunihisa saves Naruto.
When he realised that Naruto was in danger, Kunihisa happened to be the one to save Naruto. He remembers Naruto’s words from earlier, when he said to him, “There are times when money won’t work when you gotta do it on your own,” and these words, “That something all the money in the world can’t buy you, its something you gotta earn on your own.” As a result, victorious music plays in the background with a mix of drums, electric guitar, Japanese flute, and Japanese guitar as he prepares to save Naruto. He finds courage in himself as he ties a rope to a tree on a rock and wraps a rope around him. Before Naruto could fall to his death, Kunihisa jumped off the cliff to grab Naruto’s hand before he fell into the lake. While Naruto is still holding onto Kunohisa, he says to him, “Great job; you saved my life.” Thanks to Naruto’s lesson about how there are more important things in life than money, Kunihisa finally finds the courage to save Naruto and realises that indeed, money can’t solve everything.
Towards the end of the episode, at the gate of the leaf village, Kunihisa and his father, Kunijiro, prepare to go home. Before they left, Kunihisa said to Naruto that next time, he could come to his place to play ninja for a day. Moreover, the father thanked Naruto and Tsunade for their help, and as they leave, Kunihisa is at peace, knowing that money isn’t everything and that there are genuine people like Naruto who are not after his wealth. The episode ended on a positive note.
