The significance of Tsubaki in this episode
Naruto, Iruka, and Pakkun meet up with Mizuki’s fiancée, Tsubaki, and she has come to offer help to the three, feeling responsible for not having stopped him earlier. Despite the explosion, Iruka turns out to be alive, even though he has minor injuries. Luckily, when Tsubaki arrived, she attended to his wounds. Afterwards, Iruka introduces Tsubaki to Naruto and Pakkun, saying that she is Mizuki’s fiancée. She tells them what happened when Mizuki arrived at her home and how she failed to stop him. At first, Iruka refuses to allow her to come with them; however, he eventually agrees after Tsubaki says she can lead them to where Mizuki is heading. The dialogue shows her significance in this episode. She tells them about Mizuki’s objective:
Tsubaki: He only talks about one thing now; he wishes to seek out Orochimaru and get his hands on the sannin’s power.
Naruto: Are you kidding me?
They land in a forest covered with bamboo trees.
There is an unfolding of events as we learn more about Mizuki’s objective. Tense music plays in the background as Tsubaki explains why Mizuki stole the scroll of sealing.
Tsubaki: The whole reason he wanted to steal the scroll of sealing back then was to give it to Orochimaru as an offering.
Iruka: Tsubaki, did you know of this?
Tsubaki: I never told the village that just removing the scroll of sealing was a serious crime, and I was terrified of what would happen if his real objective came to light. I was sure he would abandon the idea and mend his ways.
Pakkun: Then you are not free from blame.
Tsubaki: I’m prepared to be judged.
Iruka: There’s something I still don’t understand. If you knew where Mizuki was going, you could have gone after him on your own, but instead, you...
Tsubaki: I don’t want to go alone. I might not be able to stop him. His sins—his sins—are far too many now; I can’t allow them to go on any longer.
As is evident in the dialogue, Tsubaki played a role in revealing more details about Mizuki’s offence and his objective. Mizuki stole the scroll of sealing as an offering to Orochimaru. He wishes to seek out Orochimaru and get his hands on the sannin’s power. However, how did he meet Orochimaru? This will be revealed when I talk about Mizuki’s encounter with Orochimaru.

The role of Lady Tsunade
At her office, Tsunade is informed by one of the Jonins about Mizuki breaking into the Nara Clan Research Lab to steal the formula. Mizuki plans to use the formula to seek the power he wants. Moreover, Tsunade said, “It was a clever move targeting the Nara Clan’s Institute. Not only is there an abundance of narcotics stored on site, but there’s also practically no security since it’s held up in a mountain.” Mizuki took advantage of the lack of security to satisfy his intentions of having power. However, Tsunade does not know his objective, so she stays in her office, trying to figure out what it is.
Meanwhile, Tsunade discovers a startling secret about Mizuki and Orochimaru and leaves to intervene. Lightning and thunder strike Tsunade’s office, which signifies an intense atmosphere. While in her office, she says in her mind, “So, Orochimaru, this is the web you’re weaving. Although it’s not something an average Shinobi could pull off, a technique like this could only be executed by a master.” Therefore, she played a role in revealing that Orochimaru is somehow involved in Mizuki’s stealing the formula. Moreover, when she says the technique should be executed by a master, one wonders what will happen if Mizuki makes the formula himself. This leaves a sense of mystery about the effects of the formula.
Moreover, a Jonin informs Tsunade that they have finished rounding up the inmates and that they are left with Mizuki, Raijin, and Fujin. He also told Tsunade that one of the prisoners saw Mizuki, Fujin, and Raijin running off together. Therefore, intense music with a mixture of an electric guitar, drums, and Japanese flute plays in the background as Tsunade realises something. She leaves her office after realising that Team 10 won’t be able to handle the situation on their own. Thereupon, another role she played was revealing that Fujin and Raijin would not be defeated that easily, even with the new formation: Ino-Shika-Cho.
Meanwhile, Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji are having trouble holding the two brothers off, and they know that they can’t defeat them, so they are stalling for time. Intense music plays in the background when Team 10 starts to lose their chakra. They realise that Fujin and Raijin’s strength is monstrous, and they are faster than they appear to be. In other words, they must keep them tied up. Will Tsunade arrive in time to save them? This will probably be revealed in the next episode.

Mizuki’s encounter with Orochimaru
After suffocating his comrade, who injured his leg, his first encounter with Orochimaru happened in a forest during the night. Tense music with a mixture of a deep piano playing in the background as dialogue takes place between the two of them:
Mizuki (shocked): What was that?
He sees Orochimaru’s dark shadow.
Mizuki (shocked): Is this genjutsu or paralysis?
Orochimaru: I saw you.
Orochimaru comes out of the shadows and reveals himself.
Mizuki: It can’t be, you’re, you’re Orochimaru
Orochimaru (laughs): Right, you are.
Mizuki: This is impossible; what are you doing here? You were supposed to have vanished!
Orochimaru: Why I’m here is of little consequence; more important, I think, is that bit of business I witnessed earlier.
Mizuki: Huh?
Orochimaru: You took the life of your injured comrade, didn’t you?
Mizuki: You were watching?
Orochimaru: That piqued my curiosity; it’s not a sight one sees very often among the Leaf Shinobi, who seem to devote all their time to playing ninja in the village.
Mizuki: So, what are you? What are you trying to say? I didn’t do anything wrong. It was the only choice I had.
Orochimaru chuckles evilly. You’re a short-tempered child, aren’t you? It wasn’t a reproach; you were merely carrying out your mission.
Mizuki: That’s right.
Orochimaru: I highly doubt anyone in the Leaf Village would acknowledge you for that. Am I right?
Orochimaru gives him the curse mark on his arm with a bite mark.
Mizuki: What have you done? What’s happening?
Orochimaru chuckles evilly: Consider this my gift to you. You’ll seek it out when you’re ready.
Tense music stops playing in the background.
Mizuki’s encounter with him is like Sasuke’s. Orochimaru gave him the curse mark and said it was a gift. Both are being manipulated by Orochimaru because they both need power. However, there are some differences between the two of them. Orochimaru gave Sasuke the curse mark on his neck, while he gave Mizuki the curse mark on his arm. Moreover, in Sasuke’s case, he needs the power to defeat Itachi Uchiha, while Mizuki wants power just for the sake of it. The need for power will hurt both; hence, Orochimaru proves to be the main antagonist in this season.
Naruto, Iruka, Pakkun, and Tsubaki finally reach Mizuki, but it is too late; he has already completed the formula he was making. Now that he has drunk it, he turns into a new monstrous form. And Naruto has recognised Mizuki’s transformation as nearly identical to that of Orochimaru’s cursed seal. Before their arrival, Mizuki was in a cave, completing the formula he was making. Moreover, when Naruto recognises Mizuki’s transformation, it is reminiscent of his encounter with Sasuke, who also changed into a monster due to Orochimaru’s cursed seal. Therefore, there is a threatening atmosphere. Will Naruto and the rest defeat Mizuki, or will Naruto lose the battle the same way he lost with Sasuke? This will be revealed in the next episode.
