Analysis
The following analysis will not only explain what happened in the episode. It will also look at the downfall of Mizuki because he remained a static character who refused to learn from his mistakes.
Mizuki is determined to make Naruto and Iruka suffer, and it appears like he has the upper hand with his improved strength and speed. Intense music with a mix of an electric guitar starts to play in the background when Iruka realises that Mizuki’s level of chakra is unbelievable. Mizuki is also fast and strong, as he believes that he has become unstoppable. He is so driven by power to the extent that he tosses his fiancée, Tsubaki, aside when she is trying to convince him to stop. Naruto’s Shadow Clones are also ineffective against Mizuki’s improved strength and speed.
As the battle continues, Mizuki strangles Iruka while holding him up in a tree. A dialogue takes place between them:
Mizuki: You’ll never be like me. All your life, you have just been some insignificant teacher who allows your village to use you like a puny pawn. You’re jealous of the way I live. I know you want my power, but even if you practice for 100 years, you’ll never be able to learn it!
Mizuki hits his head, and Iruka lands on the ground. Mizuki went on to say:
Mizuki: This is only the beginning of my wrath. I’m going to get even stronger than this. Soon, Orochimaru will share his hidden jutsu with me.
Iruka: You don’t honestly believe that’s going to happen?
Mizuki: Huh, I’m getting tired of you acting like you know everything. I think it’s time to end all this just like old times, only this time I’m gonna finish you off once and for all. Ready to say goodbye?
Mizuki is delusional to believe that Orochimaru will share his hidden jutsu. Moreover, he is also delusional in believing that Iruka is jealous of his so-called power. This power has gotten into his head and made him arrogant. Therefore, his arrogance will eventually lead to his downfall.
Back to the dialogue: Mizuki throws a huge kunai at Iruka, but Naruto saves him. The kunai landed on Naruto’s back; hence, there is a sad atmosphere, as Iruka said:
Iruka (perplexed and teary-eyed): Naruto, why?
Naruto slowly looks at Mizuki: Mizuki, don’t you lay another hand on my sensei!
Mizuki laughs wickedly: This is also perfect, nothing ever changes, not even down to the smallest detail. One exception, I’m different this time. The only reason I was defeated in our last meeting was because I underestimated that conniving demon fox.
Afterwards, Mizuki starts to immense huge amounts of chakra out of his body. Then he changes into something else, like a tiger.
Mizuki: I won’t let my guard down again; I’m calling on all my strength to crush you. Now let’s all have some real fun.
It is important to note that we are shown a glimpse of a scene from Season 1 when Iruka saved Naruto the same way Naruto did just now. Iruka also had a huge kunai on his back, hence it is reminiscent of Season 1. It serves as a reminder that Mizuki is the link to remind everyone about his role in Season 1. In Season 1, he had lost because he had underestimated Naruto, and now, he says he is calling all his strength to crush them. Therefore, this threatening atmosphere will eventually reveal its outcome.
Meanwhile, Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru are at their limits, and now Fujin and Raijin are free. That is, until Tsunade shows up and defeats them both easily. Fujin and Raijin surrender and agree to return peacefully to the institution. Victorious music with a mix of electric guitar, drums, and Japanese flute plays in the background when Tsunade arrives. For instance, she used a Paralysis Genjutsu on the brothers, which caused them to freeze and stand still. Thereafter, she easily defeats them with just a flip of her fingers. As a result, they apologised, surrendered, and agreed to go back to the Maximum Security Prison. Moreover, they informed Tsunade that they only agreed to go with Mizuki because he promised there would be a feast at Orochimaru’s place. Subsequently, Tsunade and Team 10 plan to go to the mountains, where Naruto and the rest are, after they rest a bit. Furthermore, Tsunade decides to let the brothers go home on their own, and they leave in a hurry. At that moment, Tsunade’s strength as a Hokage was depicted in this scene to show that she was the right person for the job.

The downfall of Mizuki
Mizuki, on the other hand, has converted all his speed to power and prepares to finish Naruto off. In this scene, there is a slow decline of Mizuki’s power. When Mizuki advanced his power, Pakkun realised something about Mizuki’s chakra. This is shown through a dialogue between him and Iruka:
Pakkun: Hey, did you notice what I noticed?
Iruka: What are you talking about?
Pakkun: He’s slowing down; that jerk’s power level has increased tenfold, but his movements are getting sluggish and slow.
Iruka: Huh, you think he transferred the chakra he was using for speed to power?
Pakkun: I don’t know, but something’s different.
Naruto is getting beaten up by Mizuki.
Iruka said in his mind: Naruto can’t last much longer alone, but if Mizuki’s speed has dropped, I might be able to take advantage of it. All right, just hang in there a little more, Naruto.
This is the start of Mizuki’s downfall. Pakkun stated that his power has increased tenfold, but his movements are getting sluggish and slow. Mizuki is arrogant to the extent that he doesn’t realise that his power is declining, and now Iruka is going to take advantage of that. Therefore, Pakkun played a crucial role in revealing Mizuki’s weakness.
Moreover, when Naruto tells Mizuki that Orochimaru is no longer in the Hidden Sound Village, he thinks that Naruto is lying. In other words, he thought that Naruto was throwing him off with some stupid bluff. Therefore, it means that he doesn’t know where Orochimaru is or that the Hidden Sound Village was abandoned. He wasted his time escaping prison based on the assumption that Orochimaru was at the Hidden Sound Village. It is a tragedy which will lead to his downfall.
But Iruka thinks up a plan and traps Mizuki, giving Naruto the chance to use the Rasengan on him. At that moment, Iruka sends a signal to Naruto using his headband to cause a speck of light to appear. Iruka signals Naruto to run through the forest. Drums start to play in the background as Naruto runs into the forest, and Mizuki runs after him. As a result, the music intensifies with a mix of Japanese guitars.
To trap Mizuki, Iruka inserted papers into the trees and activated the Seal and Capture Perimeter. After that, Naruto uses the Rasengan on Mizuki, and he is defeated. It’s the first time Iruka has seen Naruto using the technique, and he is impressed. Moreover, Mizuki’s downfall was due to his self-importance without being aware of the changes in his body or seeing a trap.
Mizuki reverts to his original form, badly damaged when Tsunade shows up and explains everything about the potion Mizuki took. Mizuki will no longer be able to fight as a shinobi. Due to his need for power, he suffered severe consequences. For instance, his body is badly damaged to the extent that he is unrecognisable. When Tsunade showed up, she explained everything about the portion Mizuki took. This is shown through dialogue:
Tsunade: His body’s cellular structure is disintegrating.
Mizuki sounds weak: You little pest, what have you done to me?
Tsunade: It’s not Naruto’s fault; this is caused by the formula you took.
Mizuki: What? That’s impossible.
Tsunade: You’re getting a taste of your own medicine. You see that portion wasn’t fully developed yet.
Mizuki has experienced calamity in that his body’s cellular structure disintegrated due to the portion not being fully developed. His hunger for power led to his demise, as we will see Tsunade explaining more about the formula through dialogue:
Tsunade: Orochimaru probably discovered that portion by accident while he was trying to develop some other illegal jutsu. All we know is that the substance absorbs the DNA of animals and combines it with the human genome. It draws huge primal power out of the body, but only lasts a short while. As it works, it puts an incredible strain on the host’s body cells, stress that far exceeds the limits of the human body. It’s too dangerous for anyone to use.
Iruka: But why would Mizuki do that?
Tsunade: I don’t know all the details of his involvement. It’s safe to assume Mizuki and Orochimaru had joined forces at some point. However, ...
Iruka: Now that the bond is broken.
Tsunade: Yes, sadly for Mizuki, Orochimaru only used him as a plaything. It was all a joke to him, letting his ally march off with some useless portion. But Mizuki is one lucky guy; an average shinobi would have certainly lost his life.
Tsunade said in her mind. “Although he will never be a shinobi again”
In a way, Mizuki was a victim of Orochimaru’s manipulation. Orochimaru knew about Mizuki’s flaws and used them to his advantage. For instance, he enticed Mizuki by promising to give him power, which led to severe consequences for Mizuki, as he wouldn’t be able to become a shinobi ever again. Therefore, Mizuki’s breaking out of prison was a waste of time. If he had remained in prison, he probably would have had a chance to become a shinobi again. Leaving prison based on the assumption that he would find Orochimaru at the Hidden Sound Village was not a good idea, hence proving that the pursuit of power is dangerous. Mizuki has proved to be a static character who refuses to change his ways, which leads to his downfall.
Iruka offers to treat everyone at the ramen bar and thinks about how Naruto saved his life the same way he had saved Naruto before. At the Hidden Leaf Village, Sakura mastered the first level of reviving a fish back to life. She is ecstatic as she runs to find Lady Tsunade to tell her about the achievement. Tsunade said in her mind, “Incredible, her training only just began, could she be a genius and surpass Shizune?” Sakura has found her purpose; she no longer feels worthless, hence we see a change of character in Sakura. She has improved, and she will one day become one of the best Medic Ninjas. Therefore, she is a dynamic character who continues to grow as a ninja.
Moreover, when Iruka thought about how Naruto saved his life, he said in his mind, “Naruto, who knows how strong you’ll become.” Naruto is becoming stronger and stronger each day; hence, he is also a dynamic character. The episode ended on a positive note.
The lesson in this episode is that seeking power sometimes leads to one’s demise, as is evident in Mizuki’s case when he has suffered the consequences of his actions. He can no longer become a shinobi, which is a tragedy.
