A New Formation: Ino-Shika-Cho
It is a new formation because each of them has improved their techniques.
Team 10 tells Naruto that they will take care of the brothers and use their combined skills to immobilise them. Victorious music starts to play in the background, featuring a mixture of various instruments, including an electric guitar, a Japanese flute, drums, and a Japanese guitar. It starts to play when Team 10 arrives to save Naruto. This was evident when Shikamaru used Shadow Possession Jutsu to stop the brothers from hurting Naruto. In response, they stated that they came under Lady Tsunade’s orders and were informed by Pakkun that the brothers may be slow upstairs, but their physical strength is Herculean. In other words, their strength is even more powerful than that of the sannin. Shikamaru is starting to realise their strength, as is shown when he says, “It’s amazing; they’re able to hold back my Shadow Possession Jutsu just by using brute force. Great, it looks like we have gotten ourselves into another annoying mess. Naruto, leave these idiots to us; you keep going after Mizuki.” Afterwards, Naruto and Pakkun leave to catch up to Iruka and Mizuki.
When Shikamaru used Shadow Possession Jutsu, it was an old technique he used for the formation: Ino-Shika-Cho. However, as the scene progresses, he introduces a new technique titled “Shadow Strangulation Jutsu.”
Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji are using their old formation: Ino-Shika-Cho. Although Shikamaru managed to stop the brothers from using Shadow Possession Jutsu, they resisted his jutsu using their physical strength. This influences Choji to hold one of the brothers down, Raijin, while Shikamaru and Ino focus on Fujin. Afterwards, Ino uses Mind Transfer Jutsu on Fujin; henceforth, Shikamaru ends the formation by saying, “Formation ino-shika-cho is complete.”
When Ino manages to use her Mind Transfer Jutsu on Fujin, Ino beats Raijin in the face while using Fujin’s body. However, Raijin beats his brother, which causes Ino to leave his body. Moreover, this causes Raijin to toss Choji on the ground; hence, there is a threatening atmosphere, which influences Team 10 to use a new formation: Ino-Shika-Cho
Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru started to use a new formation: Ino-Shika-Cho. After realising the nature of the situation, Shikamaru attempts to use Shadow Strangulation Jutsu on the brothers. Furthermore, Ino uses Mind Destruction Jutsu on Raijin, which causes him to strangle Fujin. Despite Shikamaru and Ino’s techniques, the brothers still have the strength to break free. From this point on, Choji uses his Partial Expansion Jutsu to expand his hands. He then crushes the brothers with his hands. In other words, a new formation is formed, as evidenced by Shikamaru’s words, “Brand New Formation: Ino-Shika-Cho Complete.”
Team 10 has come a long way to perfect their skills, and their results have paid off since they managed to defeat the brothers, Fujin and Raijin.

Characterisation of Mizuki
Naruto leaves to catch up to Iruka, who is fighting Mizuki in a building used to test academy instructors. It is revealed that Iruka and Mizuki are childhood friends, although Mizuki only hoped to get close to the Hokage.
We will learn about Mizuki’s character using dialogue and his memories as a Jonin.
The dialogue between Iruka and Mizuki takes place in a building used to test academy instructors.
Mizuki: What do you think, Iruka? Like my jutsu? For being self-taught, I’m pretty good, aren’t I?
Iruka: I don’t understand.
Mizuki: Mmmm
Iruka: You have this outstanding ability to use such high-level ninjutsu, and yet you just waste it.
Tense music starts to play in the background as Mizuki responds:
Mizuki laughs a little. There you go, lecturing me as always, so weak, so naive. Huh, don’t start preaching your morals to me. You fool! I have zero respect for the likes of you. In the leaf village, I hardened my heart to carry out my missions, but did it matter to you and the others, no matter how powerful I became or how many enemies I took down? It didn’t matter; you people gave me no respect at all. Even when I was part of a team, my comrades were all bound by the rules of morality.
A flashback of Mizuki’s memories with his comrades running during the night
First Jonin: They are trying to get the secret manuscript.
Second Jonin: Back up, Mizuki
First Jonin: Right!
First Jonin gets injured, and Mizuki checks his wounds:
Mizuki: Hey, are you all right?
First Jonin: I think so, but I can’t feel my leg.
Second Jonin: What do you think, Mizuki?
Mizuki: It’s no good; he can’t go on; he’s done.
Second Jonin: I see. Alright then, let’s withdraw. Hurry!
Mizuki: I’m coming.
When the second Jonin left, Mizuki said to the first Jonin while covering his mouth.
Mizuki with an evil smirk: It’s unfortunate, but those who are of no use on the battlefield only become deadweight for the rest. It may be just a minor injury, but if you aren’t able to get up and fight, you only have yourself to blame.
Afterwards, Mizuki suffocated him and then died, as is evident when we see a flash of red light.
The scene switches back to reality when Mizuki says,
Mizuki: I simply carried out my mission to the end, and despite that, you people in the village—not one of you showed me the respect I deserved. Why not?! Why couldn’t one single person acknowledge my strength?! Why Iruka?! It’s not fair when you even acknowledge that nine-tailed brat Naruto, what about me?!
Iruka: It’s still not too late, Mizuki. If you pay for your crimes, you can start anew. The people of the village, I promise, will forgive you-
Mizuki interrupts: Don’t make me laugh! What gives you the right to stand there and lecture me?! You’re just the same as the rest of them! Treating me like I’m not as good as you!
When looking at the dialogue, Mizuki felt like no one ever valued him. No matter how many times he tried to be the best ninja, his efforts were never recognised. He had spent his life trying to prove himself, and since that wasn’t reciprocated, he felt invalidated. This is why he doesn’t hold respect for anyone in the village. He wasted his life trying to prove himself; hence, it makes one sympathetic. However, he took it too far when he suffocated a jonin just to complete a mission. The lengths he went to just to get approval were too much, and it shows that he lacked remorse for his comrades, which contributed to his downfall. As we will see in the following dialogue, we will reflect on his demise.
The dialogue continues between Iruka and Mizuki.
Iruka: Mizuki
Mizuki: That day, yes, everything began on that day.
Flashback to Mizuki’s memories when he takes the Ninja Academy’s Teacher Recruitment Exam
Mizuki: You know, there’s no point in getting nervous like that.
Iruka signs: Mizuki
Mizuki: Tomorrow is the big day: the Ninja Academy’s Teacher Recruitment Exam
Iruka signs: Yeah, the suspense is killing me. I’m so jealous of you; your scores are so high that you’ll probably breeze right through tomorrow’s exam.
Mizuki laughs: I don’t know about that. Hey, in any case, let’s do our best.
Iruka: Yeah
After the Ninja Academy Recruitment Exam, Iruka passed while Mizuki failed. As he runs away, he eavesdrops on a conversation between the third Hokage, Hiruzen, and the other examiners, saying:
First Person: Now, regarding Mizuki, I say we adopt a wait-and-see attitude.
Second Person: Yes, it’s a shame, but I agree. There are still many questions about his mission to recover the secret manuscript, and until those are cleared up, he shouldn’t progress.
Third Person: According to the autopsy of the fallen man, the cause of death was suffocation, yet in Mizuki and the others’ reports, they stated his leg injury wasn’t that serious.
Hiruzen: Yes, I understand. He’s brilliant, but he must be held back.
Mizuki clenches his teeth. He is frustrated, and then he leaves.
The scene switches back to reality as Mizuki says, “You see, I was just carrying out the mission I was assigned to complete. You have no idea how miserable my life has been since that day. Since then, I... Don’t you understand?! You don’t know; you have no idea! I’ve been through so much pain, and you had it so easy. Which one of us is the true Shinobi? Let’s find out, shall we?” Afterwards, they enter the building used to test academy instructors, and then they fight.
From the dialogue, it is evident that Mizuki failed because the third Hokage and the rest had their suspicions about Mizuki possibly suffocating the Jonin, who is now dead. He failed his exam due to his actions, and instead of taking accountability for his actions, he blames others for having a miserable life. He made a mistake trying to please everyone when no one asked him to. Sadly, he was never acknowledged, but it’s his fault for wasting his time trying to prove his worth. He should have been content with working hard to improve himself as a ninja instead of working hard to please everyone. He should have loved his village enough to protect it; hence, he should have had the will of fire to protect the village.
Mizuki reveals that he has become stronger and learned new techniques while in prison, and destroys the building they are in. Mizuki uses paper bombs to destroy the building, and Iruka is trapped inside. Naruto and Pakkun are about to get inside the building to look for Iruka. Did Iruka survive the explosion? We are left in suspense until the next episode.
The lesson from this episode is that one should not try to live a life trying to please others; otherwise, one will harbour bitterness and resentment, as is evident in Mizuki. He said that he lived a miserable life because no one in the village acknowledged him.
