How Jiraiya found out about Sasame’s betrayal
Jiraiya explains that he knew about Sasame’s betrayal through Hansaki, the Fuma clan leader he fought with at the tavern. He recalls the conversation he had with Hansaki at the tavern. The dialogue began like this:
Hansaki: When Orochimaru first came to this land, there was much talk. Many among my people wanted to use his power to revive our clan; others saw his evil intentions. We implored the rest not to join forces with this person.
Jiraiya: Mmmm, and that’s why you were chased out of your village.
Hansaki: Yes, it was probably an order from Orochimaru. They said we were endangering our clan and chased us away. They called us traitors.
Back to reality, Jiraiya said, “So you see the moment that Sasame called Hansaki a traitor, I knew she had gotten mixed up with a group on Orochimaru’s side.” From this interaction with Hansaki, we now have the full story about the Fuma clan and Orochimaru. Orochimaru created division within the clan to the extent that he convinced the clan to banish Hansaki and the rest for refusing to follow his evil intentions. Therefore, Hansaki played a role in having all the details about Orochimaru and his clan.
Sasame leads Naruto, Jiraiya, and Sakura to Orochimaru’s hideout. They send Sasame back to the village because of the danger level. Before Sasame could take them to Orochimaru’s hideout, Jiraiya said, “Sasame, my dear, Hansaki has been quite worried about you. He suspected you might leave your village to go look for Arashi. After you take us to Orochimaru’s hideout, you’ll immediately be sent back to the inn where Hansaki is and wait there for us to return; that shall be the punishment for your actions.” After taking them to Orochimaru’s hideout, she had to go back to the inn where Hansaki was and wait for their return. Hansaki turned out to be a good character compared to the first time we were introduced to him. Therefore, we see an element of change when Hansaki goes from being the enemy to being one of the good guys. Anyway, after taking them to Orochimaru’s hideout, Sasame didn’t go back to the inn. Instead, she is waiting for them from a distance, hoping that they will bring Arashi back to her.

Team Jiraiya at Orochimaru’s hideout
Jiraiya summons Gamakichi to go in first and investigate. The four come to three tunnels. Jiraiya goes off to the right, Naruto and Sakura down the middle, and Gamakichi down the left. As each of them entered the tunnels, they came across some surprises.

1. Jiraiya enters the tunnel on the right.
Jiraiya’s weakness will turn out to be a disadvantage for him. When he enters the tunnel, he notices the smell of perfume. As he opens a door, he finds a woman playing a Japanese guitar. The dialogue between them begins like this:
The Woman: We heard guests would be arriving from far away, so Lord Orochimaru instructed me to provide you with some entertainment.
Jiraiya: I feel like I’m dealing with a fox or badger spirit.
The Woman: If you’re implying that I’m some sort of fox or badger, perhaps you ought to step over to this side of the room and check for yourself to see if I have a tail or not.
Jiraiya: Well, I picked an interesting path, didn’t I? How about yours, Naruto?
Jiraiya’s weakness for women makes him blind to the deadly situation he is in. Orochimaru and Jiraiya were once comrades whose sensei was Hiruzen, the late third Hokage, which means that Orochimaru knows his weakness. Since the woman said that she was instructed by Orochimaru to provide entertainment, that should have been the first red flag Jiraiya should have noticed. Orochimaru is using Jiraiya’s weakness to trap him. Moreover, Jiraiya had a gut feeling that he was dealing with a fox or badger. This is the second red flag that should have told him it was a trap. The cliché phrase, as sly as a fox, shows that this woman is dodgy, and that phrase is applied in this situation. Yet, despite all this, Jiraiya said, “I picked an interesting path.” He avoids listening to his gut, which will later prove to be his possible demise. Eventually, it proves to be true as Jiraiya tosses her aside when he realises that she is trying to seduce him. However, he drank the sake, which turned out to be drugged. Afterwards, he feels strange, and while feeling like this, the woman traps Jiraiya with her long hair, and then the ceiling falls on both. Only time will tell if Jiraiya survived the attack.

2. Naruto and Sakura enter the tunnel in the middle.
Through the tunnels, they find several deadly booby traps and dangers. Naruto easily falls for the first but manages to rescue Sakura from the rest. It comes to the point where there is a trapdoor through which Naruto saves Sakura, falling into it himself. He tells her to go on without him. Sakura trusts him and leaves. Naruto ends up in a dark room with many bamboo sticks and struggles to get free. Naruto tried to use his shadow clones, but still struggled to get free. Suddenly, water fills the pit, and it turns out that Gamakichi appears to be landing on Naruto’s head. Will they get out of the situation? Only time will tell.

3. Gamakichi enters the tunnel on the left.
There aren’t many details concerning this tunnel except that Gamakichi came across the water that filled the dark room in Naruto’s tunnel. The focus of the episode was on Team Jiraiya.
Sakura’s interaction with Kabuto and Orochimaru
Meanwhile, as Sakura enters a large vacant room, she battles Kabuto Yakushi and Orochimaru, who already have the upper hand.
This serves as an important scene that sets the tone of the whole episode. Dubious music starts to play in the background when Sakura enters a dark room with lighted candles surrounded by many pillars. She meets Kabuto, and the dialogue between them begins like this:
Kabuto: It’s quite admirable that you made it this far, Sakura.
Sakura: I know that voice; is it Kabuto?
Kabuto: Isn’t it ironic? You dragged down your team at the Chunin exam, but now look at you; you’re the only person from the Hidden Leaf Village who can make it this far into our compound.
Sakura: I’m not here by myself; Naruto and Master Jiraiya will be here any minute now. Tell me where Sasuke is; he is all right, isn’t he?
Kabuto: Enough about Sasuke; if I were you, I would be more concerned about Naruto and Jiraiya’s well-being, or maybe not. It may very well be that those two are no longer in this world.
Sakura: It couldn’t... There’s no way Master Jiraiya and Naruto would be taken down that easily.
Kabuto: Oh, is that so? Or could it be that you dragged down Naruto again like you always do? Am I right?
Sakura could not believe that Naruto was dead, and while she was contemplating what could have happened to him, Kabuto started to throw various kunai at Sakura. She dodges the attacks and hides behind the pillars, and then Kabuto says, “If you’re so worried, why don’t you go and check on them, or are you too afraid of my attack to come out from behind that pillar? Is that it? Pathetic. If someone were as weak and slow as you were on my team, I would have died dozens of times by now.” While Sakura tries to use techniques such as Substitution Jutsu, it doesn’t scare Kabuto, which is why he says, “As I thought, you can’t take me. It’s about time I put an end to this charade after all; I can’t keep Lord Orochimaru waiting much longer while I play.”
After Kabuto’s words, Sakura remembers her encounter with Orochimaru (who was disguised as someone else) at the Forest of Death. It was a threatening experience between her and Sasuke, where they both froze with fear. As the scene proceeds, odious music with a mixture of deep pianos plays in the background as Orochimaru appears. He said to Sakura, “I can tell when you’re bluffing, my dear, and right now, you’re already finished.” Sakura froze just like the time at the Forest of Death. The episode ends with Kabuto Yakushi and Orochimaru having the upper hand. Will Sakura survive? Will Naruto, Jiraiya, and Gamakichi survive? This will be revealed in the next episode.
The lesson from this episode is that sometimes one must find a way to tackle their weaknesses; otherwise, it will lead to their demise, just like Jiraiya, who was deceived by a woman.
