Sasame’s deception
When Sasame drugs Naruto, Sakura, and Jiraiya, she prepares to let them be given to Orochimaru for her to be led to Arashi. After Jiraiya saved them from the enemies, he gave intel about his interaction with the Fuma clan leader. He said, “After I taught them a lesson about trying to steal my money, I questioned them about Orochimaru and his possible whereabouts. Sadly, they were no help at all.” Consequently, Sasame offers to show them the way to Orochimaru’s hideout. Along the way, they find mountains, and before they can go any further, Jiraiya suggests that they should eat first before looking for Orochimaru’s hideout. While Team Jiraiya was eating, Sasame offered to make tea; she put the paralysing powder in their tea, and they passed out. Drugging them was part of her plan all along so that she could be led to Arashi. It was Kamakiri, Jigumo, and Kagerou who convinced her to serve Orochimaru. They also told her that Arashi was undergoing special training with Orochimaru. It makes one wonder whether Arashi is alive or unconscious, hence making this mysterious.
Sasame’s deception is understandable because she only did this so that she could find her cousin, Arashi. Arashi is precious to her, for whom she is willing to sacrifice her life; therefore, it is justifiable.

Kamikiri, Jigumo and Kagerou’s deception
But when she discovers that they are planning to be killed, she begs the ones about to do so to stop. The three of them told Sasame that she should drug them so that they could capture them and take them to Orochimaru to get examined. However, they failed to tell her that they were planning to kill Team Jiraiya. They tricked her into doing this, which is why she attempted to block Kamikiri from killing them. However, he tosses her aside.
Their betrayal is sort of fifty-fifty. In a way, their reason for doing this is because they believe that Orochimaru will restore their clan to its former honour and power, since he said so. They love their clan to the extent that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get it back. The Fuma clan is no different from the Hidden Leaf. They both love their clan. At the same time, it was wrong to trick Sasame because if she knew that they were planning to kill Team Jiraiya, she wouldn’t have drugged them in the first place, especially since Sakura treated her wounds.

Team Jiraiya’s deception
Naruto reveals that he and the others faked being put to sleep and attacked. When Kamikiri tossed Sasame to the side, Naruto managed to save her in time before she hit the ground. Victorious music plays in the background with a mixture of Japanese chants, drums, and electronic guitar as it signifies the victory of Team Jiraiya. They didn’t drink the tea Sasame offered; they knew it was a trap. Therefore, it means that the bodies that were lying on the ground were a substitution jutsu all along. As the scene progresses, Naruto activates his multi-shadow clone jutsu and Uzumaki barrage to defeat Kamakiri. On the other hand, Jiraiya used Rasengan to defeat Jigumo. Sakura was keeping Sasame safe.
Their use of deception was smart in the sense that they kept themselves safe from their enemies.

Orochimaru's deception
Kagerou attacks Naruto and Jiraiya with a powerful technique that shortens her life, then escapes with Jigumo and Kamikiri. When Jigumo and Kamikiri discover that they are being used by Orochimaru, they attack him but are killed. Believing that fighting Team Jiraiya will restore the Fuma clan’s honour and power, Kagerou sacrifices herself by using her jutsu, Antlion Ninja Arts: Ephemeral, to create four wings out of chakra on her back. She said, “Lord Orochimaru has promised that our clan will spread its wings in the sun once again, but for that to happen, I must sacrifice all. I must use the Ninja Art that I can perform once in a lifetime.” She went on to use “Ninja Art: Ephemera” and fired a gigantic blast of chakra at Jiraiya and Naruto, but they dodged it using the toad mouth trap jutsu.
It is important to note Kagerou’s abilities. As stated by the Narutopedia Website, despite being a young girl, Kagerou frequently pretended to be a bizarre, hunchbacked man with buck teeth. Even if she was hurt, this metamorphosis cannot be reversed. She would take on the persona of a man and employ the Earth Release: Antlion Technique to drag everything in a specified area into a huge pit. She was able to employ Antlion Ninja Arts after eliminating this form. Ephemeral, forming four wings out of the chakra on her back. The amount of chakra she could unleash on her opponent is rumoured to be so vast that this jutsu could only be employed once in a person’s lifetime. In this form, she had teleportation and flight abilities. Kagerou highlights Orochimaru’s betrayal and deception when she says, “I believed him. I thought it was for the good of the clan; I wanted to believe... ”Afterwards, she fazes out. Jiraiya also noted that she sacrificed herself and gave everything she had for what she had been led to believe could be the salvation of her clan. Odious music with a mixture of a deep piano plays in the background as Kagerou arrives with Jigumo and Kamikiri at Orochimaru’s hideout. She risked her life to save both. And as they go to his lair, the music intensifies. They ask Orochimaru to heal their comrade using his medical jutsu; otherwise, their comrade will die. Instead of feeling sympathetic, Orochimaru is indifferent and cold throughout the conversation. This is shown in the dialogue:
Orochimaru: I want you both to bow your heads, put your hands to your hearts, and contemplate. Consider the many ways in which you have failed me.
Kamikiri: But my Lord. We have risked our lives for your cause. Every order you have given us, we have obeyed. You promised you would restore the Fuma clan.
Jigumo: You must acknowledge our service to you.
Orochimaru: There is only one way left for the two of you to atone for your failures.
When Jigumo and Kamikiri discover that they are being used by Orochimaru, they attack him. However, they ended up being killed by Orochimaru. As a result, music intensity increases throughout as Orochimaru’s evil laugh is heard, showing that Orochimaru is just using people for his evil intentions and will deceive anyone to fulfil his goals. The episodes leave the audience curious to watch the next episode.
The lesson from this episode is that one should be careful about whom they trust. They should not rely on words, just like Jigumo, Kamikiri, and Kagerou did when they believed that Orochimaru would restore their clan.
