They were going through there because they thought it was the best way to bring it to them without any opponents watching them. This civilisation has monorails for bringing secret boxes, but seeing as the one they normally use was broken, and will take a while to rebuild. So they have to take it.

They went through a long corridor, booking it to Lead, hoping they would get there in time before Xenon would reallotropy/reallotropism again.
They took a right turn through a doorway, only to find Lead playing with his guns as figurines.

Lead being embarrassed about what he revealed, he then ignored the question and asked, “Did you bring the box?” In a raspy voice.
