Lillie backed away from the window. “Nope. Nope. Nope.”
Her bedroom door burst open.
“Lillie!” her mum shouted. “Stay inside! Don’t go near the windows!”
“What’s happening?”
“We don’t know. The whole town’s out. Even the emergency generators.”
Bear barked again, louder this time, facing the hallway like something was coming.
Lillie’s mum froze. “Why’s he doing that?”
“I don’t know,” Lillie whispered. “He’s been acting weird all night.”
The pulse suddenly stopped.
