微かな雷鳴が冷徹な夜の空を切り裂き、俗世の一切の薄闇を鮮烈に照らし出す。

少女は孤独に身を縮こまらせ、音沙汰のない救いの手をただ待ちわびていた。 かろうじて残された、わずか四分の一ほどの乏しい食料に視線を投げると、虛ろな腹がふたたび情け容赦なく音を立てて鳴り響く。

少女は、まるで他人事のようにくぼみかけた自らの腹を無造作にさすり、生気のない声で独りごちた。

「今日は――いったい何日目なのだろう」
