Emily slammed the laptop shut.

She stood up.

Her heart was beating so loudly that she could hear it.

She reached for her phone.

No signal.

She frowned.

That was strange.

She walked toward the window.

Outside, the street was empty.

Not unusually empty.

Completely empty.

No cars.

No lights.

No people.

Even the rain had stopped.

Emily looked at the clock.

2:13 A.M.

She waited.

2:14.

The clock didn't move.

She checked her phone.

She checked the microwave outside her room.

2:13 A.M.

The entire house had stopped at the same time.

Emily slowly walked back to her desk.

Her laptop was open again.

She hadn't touched it.

A black screen filled the display.

In the center was one sentence.

YOU HAVE 47 MINUTES.

Emily swallowed.

"Forty-seven minutes for what?"

The answer appeared.

TO REMEMBER.

Then the screen showed a photograph.

Emily recognized herself immediately.

She was six years old.

She was standing in front of a computer.

Beside her was her father.

Emily stared at the photograph.

She had never seen it before.

Her father was smiling.

But Emily wasn't.

She was staring at the computer screen with a terrified expression.

Behind them was a room Emily didn't recognize.

A small room.

No windows.

Gray walls.

One metal chair.

And a black computer sitting on a desk.

Emily zoomed into the photograph.

There was something written on the wall behind her.

Three words.

DON'T LET HER OUT.

Emily's stomach dropped.

"Her?"

She looked at the photograph again.

There was no one else in the room.

At least...

not that she could see.

She zoomed in further.

Behind her father's shoulder was a dark corner.

Something was standing there.

Emily stared.

A person.

A little girl.

Same height as Emily.

Same hair.

Same face.

Emily stepped away from the laptop.

"No..."

The photograph changed.

The girl was gone.

Now there was only Emily and her father.

A new message appeared:
