'The Incimus has a message for the eastern Latimele,' The dove man announced.
He reached into a silver messenger bag with a perfectly cut sapphire in the shape of the eastern Incimus in its centre. Coccineusella gripped Cep's arm with anticipation.
Cep, fought the urge to instantly kill Coccineusella’s hope. With such a deadly enigma, she would assume that the Incimus would send help as soon as it could. Due to energy force hunting from various groups, creatures in danger were given asylum in a place were using high amounts of energy forces (such as those for hunting) was almost impossible. The Latimele were very important to everyone else in the Incimus. If the governors of the south, west and east allowed the creatures of the Latimele to get into any trouble they would face criticism from the people.
Cep frowned at the dove man in such a way she was hoping that he had good news for them.
The dove man frowned at back at Cep and at Coccineusella and her enthusiasm. He sighed and continued. 'There have been reports from the southern, eastern and western Incimus of a surge in unstable energy forces from various Saltaturni, Humanoid and Spiremine groups. Due to this, the governor of the eastern region has decided to close off the Latimeles to the Incimus till further notice in hopes of preventing a spread from energy forces.'
Coccineusella disappointedly let go of Cep's arm.
'Why would they close off the Incimus?' Coccineusella upset asked. '
'I am only a messenger of the governor,' he replied dryly.
Cep felt her heart sank. Suddenly, all sorts of theories had begun to fill her head. 'The governor of the eastern region ordered this. Of course she would order this. Energy forces hunters hated the Incimus, they need it gone. This could be her doing for all we know.' Cep's teeth began malfunctioning as she gritted them.
'You can't close us off from the Incumus! We need their help!' Coccineusella cried. The dove man remained silent and watched Coccineusella pan
Cep couldn't stand to just lose the only other home she knew. She wanted to do something. 'Send a message to you fuck-ass governor and tell her I'm coming to drink her stupidity out of her skull.'
She wished she could say. However, all she could do was grab the dove man's bag and look at him in hopes for any form of better news.
The dove man snatched his bag. He bowed and then fully transformed into a dove and flew out of the window. Cep, who was furious and in need of answers, hesitantly leaped out of the window to ask him more questions. He flapped his wings as fast as he could as Cep landed on her feet when she tried to catch him. She picked up her pace on the ground as the evening breeze blew against her face. She switched from her humanoid eye form to her leopard eye form to spot the dove man better. She spaced her legs as far as she could to sprint and catch up. The dove man cooed loudly and flew into the forest border at the edge of the neighbourhood. This was the only known way to get to the Incimus.
Cep switched to her semi-parduskene form to hunt him down better. She took off her shoes and bent down slightly and agilely. Past branches and dry leaves, she listened in closely for any flapping noises. She observingly watched out for him, even though spotting a bright, white dove wouldn't be too hard for someone with her anatomy. She, unfortunately, could feel her metal bones creaking, she did her best to mitigate any noise. She walked and walked and saw him. He was landing by a rotting tree. She watched from a distance. He transformed into a semi-humanoid form. his limbs were wings and his beak was on his face. He flapped and he cooed loudly. He began shaking and slamming his body against the tree. That's when Ce p caught what was happening.
She ran towards him and grabbed him by his wings and rushed him to Coccineusella.
A few days went by and the situation only grew worse. With no access to the Incimus or any other resources, there was only so little Coccineusella's thaumaturgy could do. One day, as Cep was checking on the people in the manor, she broke down and felt defeated.
The Leokene cub had passed away.
A few other individuals had passed away throughout the week. More people came in and more people never left. Coccineusella tried her best but nothing she did could save anyone.
About three weeks after the death, Cep was in a room in the manor trying her best to stay strong. She had still forgotten to buy iron. She couldn't even feel any physical discomfort when the emotional pain felt far much worse. She got off the chair by her desk and lay down on the floor, curled up and cried. As tears ran down her face and her nose clogged, someone began knocking at the door. It sounded urgent. Cep sniffled loudly and opened the door. A young man, who looked very paranoid rushed into the room and sat on the chair opposite to hers at the desk.
'How may I-' she tried to ask.
'I think I've got this disease.' He said over her.
Cep, with a very tired look in her eyes sighed. She stood up and walked towards him. She put her head near her chest, but before she could even put her ear directly by his chest she could hear it very clearly. His heartbeat sounded good. Cep stood up and looked at the rest of his body. He looked healthy to her.
'What's your group?' She asked him.
'Equeskene.' He replied.
'Well sir, you have a strong heartbeat and stable breathing. What makes you believe your energy forces are unstable?' She softly asked. He wasn't the first to come into her office with paranoia over the instability.
'I was at the library, I encountered a mouse man and he died this week. I think I caught it.' He explained.
Cep forced a smile, that same awkward smile to comfort him. He stared at her with a slightly concerned look. He scratched his braids and Cep coughed awkwardly.
'You can't catch the instability,' she explained as she went back to her seat. 'It just happens...'
She sighed. ' ...And there isn't anything I can do about it.'
'Why don't you enhance them?' He curiously asked.
Cep confusedly looked at him. 'Enhance?'
'Yeah! Just like yours.' He obliviously pointed at her teeth.
Cep froze and shivered. The idea of giving someone these tiresome enhancements hurt her. She felt her heart race and her head spin. Her spine and legs creaked. Fear? No, it wasn't that. She stood up and finally remembered.
'I need steel!'
She collapsed forward and cracked the metal bones in her legs. The young man stumbled back and off his seat. He didn't know what to do about her. He slowly stood up and poked at her leg. It made a creaking sound. That's when his eyes widened, he needed to get her iron. He shook himself into some confidence and transformed into a half horse form. He lifted her the best he could with his hooves and put her over his shoulder. He ran as quickly as he could and found Coccineusella. She was in the kitchen preparing food on a tray with a little tag written 'Cep'. When she saw the young man carry Cep, she threw the tray and rushed to check Cep's heart and lungs.
'She needs steel.' The young man stopped Coccineusella. 'Her bones in her limbs and spine, they're metal and they sound bad.'
Coccineusella frowned. She had no idea that Cep's body was metallic to that extent.
'Where would I get that form? I can't afford steel!' She yelled, tears forming at her eyes.
The young man smiled. 'Do you believe in coincidences?'
The young man led Coccineusella to his house. She knew that the house belonged to an eagle man. The young man steadily kept Cep on his shoulder as he pulled a key out of his pocket. As he tried to unlock the door, Cep suddenly gasped and woke up. She yelled loudly she was in so much pain and she was extremely confused. The you man held her and tried to soothe her but she growled at him. Coccineusella rushed over and patted her head. Seeing a familiar face, Cep calmed down.
'Where am I?' She shakily asked.
'Oh Cep, we're getting you steel,' she softly replied. 'This is uhm...'
The young man smiled. He began unlocking the door. 'My name is Irrone. You probably haven't seen much of me. My dad was always a bit...fussy about me.'
He opened the door brown wooden door. He slowly stepped into the house and lay her down on a smooth grey cotton couch. He left to go to another room. Cep's bone's creaked. Coccineusella frowned and knelt down to keep watch of her. She gave Cep a weird smile, mocking the weird smile she did. Cep rolled her eyes and gave Coccineusella a genuine smile. Irrone came back in with a sack. He unloaded the sack by the couch and various pieces of metal fell to the ground. Coccineusella and Cep both looked at the metal confusedly, then at the Irrone.
'Oh these, right,' he acknowledged. 'I make metal weapons. Don't worry, I'm not some crazy hunter. Although, I'm pretty sure one would come for me...'
He transformed back into his humanoid form and began sorting the metal pieces. 'My mom is a nullkene from around here and my dad is an Aquilkene. It was very strange that my mom had me, an Equeskene. Long story short, my mom vanished and my dad and I aren't the best of friends. So, to keep busy and calm, I became a... what's the word...'
'A weaponsmith?' Cep continued for him.
Irrone smiled and stood up. He had sorted the metals into two piles; steel alloy and iron.
'If you need any help,' Irrone said as he was retrieving something on a shelf in the living room. 'My dad has these. He gets them from the library.' He put some books down near the metal. Cep's jaw dropped. She quickly asked Coccineusella and Irrone for some privacy. They respectfully left.
The books were straight from the Incimus and not available in The Latimele. Suddenly, an idea sparked in her mind. It couldn't be possible that the books were directly from the library. Irrone's dad had to have some direct connection to the Incimus. She tried to reach for the books but two claws in her hand malfunctioned and ripped through her skin.
Cep pulled her hand back and sighed. She looked down at the pile and felt relived. However, she knew she had waited too long and now it would be much more difficult to repair her own body. She glanced at Coccineusella and then at Irrone as the left and closed the door behind them. She still didn't know how much she could trust Coccineusella; in such a crisis it wouldn't be surprising to her if a thaumaturgist like her would want to conduct a few experiments. She also didn't know if she could trust Irrone, the person who thinks people would benefit from her 'enhancements'. She frowned.
She frowned. The solutions for everything were currently beyond obvious. However, as usual, the emotional pain always felt greater.
