After suffering and nearly dying from torture by a witch who held her captive for the past 180 years, Cruor-et-pereo (Cep) is let go into the real world by the witch. She spends the next 20 years trying to recover from the damage caused by the witch in a world where creatures like her, known as Saltaturni, live amongst humans and in customs she's not used to. However, she begins to notice Saltaturni around her dying.
