SCENE 1 — THE SILENT CHESSBOARD

The VIP lounge of 'The Velvet Obsidian' was buzzing with its usual elite crowd.
Naveen stepped inside without a moment's hesitation, the sleek steel half-mask covering the right side of his face. He wasn't looking for anyone in particular; instead, his sharp eyes were meticulously scanning the entire lounge.
Reflections in the tinted glass, hidden cameras, security guards, and emergency exits—within seconds, Naveen's mind had mapped out every detail of the room.
Three exits.
Eight guards.
And a private balcony overhead, offering an unobstructed view of the entire floor.
Naveen approached the bar counter, laying down cash as he spoke. "Whiskey. Neat."
The bartender nodded and slid the glass toward him. Naveen picked it up, but didn't drink. In the amber reflection of the whiskey, his eyes locked onto Booth Number Seven.
Four men. Dark coats, rigid body language, and concealed weapons beneath their jackets.
Naveen recognized who they were immediately—Tawan’s shooters. Tawan had been trying to seize control of the city’s underground trade for a long time, actively hunting for a chance to eliminate Vihaan. His men were currently scouting the lounge, waiting for the right moment to strike.
Naveen took a slow sip of the whiskey. Tawan’s men... They’re nervous. And nervous men always make mistakes.
Up on the private balcony, Vihaan stood alone.
The spectacle below—the music, the crowds, the noise—was utterly boring to him. Kai stepped up beside him. Kai wasn't just Vihaan’s bodyguard; he was his most trusted right-hand man, managing the syndicate's entire security network.
"Boss, Booth Number Seven," Kai murmured softly. "They’re Tawan’s shooters, heavily armed. Should I have security clear them out?"
"No," Vihaan replied, his eyes fixed on the masked stranger down by the bar. A faint, intriguing smile touched his lips. "Give them a chance. I want to see who they’re here to hunt."
Down at the bar, Naveen felt the weight of a gaze locked onto him from above.
He caught the reflection in his glass. Standing on the second-floor balcony was Vihaan—cigar held loosely between his fingers, his dark eyes observing everything.
Naveen’s expression didn't shift. He simply raised his glass an inch higher—a quiet, subtle acknowledgment that said, 'I know you're watching.'
Vihaan tracked every detail of his movement. The balanced posture, the relaxed shoulders, and an absolute lack of fear in his stride.
"Boss... who is that?" Kai asked.
"I don't know," Vihaan replied, unable to tear his eyes away from Naveen. "But I’ll find out soon enough."
Just then—Tawan’s men drew their guns.

The moment the guns were drawn, Naveen didn't waste a single fraction of a second.
He slammed the heavy whiskey glass directly into the wrist of the nearest shooter. The bone cracked, and the gun clattered onto the floor.
Before anyone could react, a second attacker lunged at Naveen with a blade. Naveen pivoted sharply, but the knife sliced straight through the leather jacket on his left arm. Crimson blood began to seep through the dark leather immediately.
Naveen’s eyes hardened, but he didn't slow down. He delivered a brutal elbow strike right into the attacker's ribs. The man groaned in agony, crashing hard into a glass table.
Realizing they had to clear this masked intruder out of the way before reaching Vihaan, the remaining two shooters pivoted. One lunged from behind, exploiting Naveen’s injured arm and shoving him hard against the bar counter. Wine bottles shattered into a rain of glass across the floor.
Up on the balcony, Vihaan drew his pistol in a lightning flash.
"Kai, seal all exits," Vihaan ordered sharply. "Nobody leaves."
Vihaan fired two precise shots. The bullets ripped through the shoulders of both shooters, dropping them to the floor instantly. Vihaan’s aim was never off.
Panic erupted across the lounge as terrified patrons scrambled for the doors. Within seconds, Kai and his security detail had locked down the entire floor.
Naveen stood motionless amidst the chaos. Blood dripped steadily from his cut arm onto the polished floor, yet his breathing remained perfectly calm and steady.
Watching from above, a rare flicker of fascination sparked in Vihaan’s eyes. Despite being wounded, the masked stranger hadn't taken a single step back.

SCENE 3 — DANGEROUS SPARKS

A heavy stillness settled over the lounge as the screams faded, leaving only the firm, disciplined footsteps of Vihaan’s guards.
Naveen remained rooted to his spot.
Vihaan descended the grand staircase slowly. Dressed in his black silk shirt, the dragon tattoo visible across his chest, carrying an aura of effortless dominance. He came to a halt just a few paces away from Naveen.
Neither of them spoke a word at first.
Standing this close, Naveen could catch the rich, dark scent of old rum and gunpowder clinging to Vihaan.
"You ruined my evening," Vihaan said softly, his voice dangerously calm.
Naveen tilted his head slightly. "Tawan’s men were going to do that anyway."
"You don't look like a hero," Vihaan remarked, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
"I never claimed to be one."
Kai stepped forward with his weapon raised, but Vihaan held up a single hand, checking him immediately.
Vihaan took another step closer, closing the distance between them. "You walked in here knowing something was going to go down. You watched, you waited... and then you struck. Why?"
"I don't like people who waste bullets," Naveen replied, his tone entirely composed.
Vihaan let out a soft chuckle. "That’s not an answer."
"It wasn't a question that deserved one."
The space between them was practically nonexistent now.
Slowly, Vihaan reached his hand out toward Naveen’s steel half-mask.
Before his fingers could graze the metal, Naveen caught Vihaan’s wrist in a firm grip.
There was no tremor in Naveen's hand, no hesitation in his hold. His grip was so balanced, firm, and precise that Vihaan recognized it instantly—this wasn't the hold of an amateur; it was the mark of a highly trained fighter.
Naveen’s perceptive gaze flicked down, noticing a subtle strain in Vihaan’s left shoulder—the subtle sign of an old, concealed gunshot scar. Behind his mask, a faint smile formed on Naveen's lips. (So... you feel pain too.)
Vihaan looked down at Naveen’s grip on his wrist, then met his fearless eyes. A cold, lethal smile spread across Vihaan's face. "You have nerve, touching my wrist... and your grip tells me you're no ordinary stranger. I remember every face in this city worth remembering... and I don't care for strangers."
Kai’s sharp voice echoed, "Let go of him!"
Yet Naveen’s eyes never strayed to the guards; they remained locked entirely on Vihaan. Vihaan didn't make any move to break the hold either. Their gazes remained tangled in an unyielding stare.
Naveen was the first to release his grip, taking a slow step backward.
"Not tonight, Boss Vihaan," Naveen said, his voice quiet and calculated.
Suddenly, the overhead emergency sprinkler system burst to life. Cold water rained down heavily as red alarm lights began flashing across the ceiling. Naveen had secretly triggered the building's fire alarm system moments before.
Under the cover of the sudden deluge and thick mist, Naveen only needed two seconds.
By the time Kai and his guards cleared their vision, the masked stranger had completely vanished into thin air. Nothing was left on the floor except a few stray drops of blood.
Kai scanned the room frantically. "All exits were locked down... how did he get out?"
Vihaan, however, hadn't moved an inch. He stared intently at the empty doorway, then glanced down at his wrist—a small smear of Naveen’s blood had transferred onto the cuff of his silk shirt.
Vihaan brushed his thumb over the bloodstain, a deep, captivating smile lighting up his features.
"For the first time in years..." Vihaan whispered to himself, "...someone walked into my territory, wasn't afraid of me... and walked out alive."
Kai stepped closer. "Boss?"
Vihaan kept his eyes fixed on the dark doorway. "Find him. Alive. I have a few questions for him... and I get the feeling he’s the only person in this entire city who has the answers."
