"I hope you all can be friends with Fitri, don't make her feel uncomfortable! Alright, Fitri, you can sit next to... hmm... Rasya, go ahead."
"But, sir, Doyo's already sitting next to me," I replied, clearly not thrilled.
"Yeah, sir, it's not fair if only Rasya gets the benefit, sir...I mean, Rasya and I have been desk mates since we were born, sir. You can't separate us now."
"I'm making this decision because I see you're easily influenced by your friends, you can talk about nonsense easily but don't focus on studying."
"But, sir, I do want to study too! It's not like my grades are any worse than Rasya's, we're both equally doomed," Doyo shot back, hiding his true intentions.
"In that case, you can move next to Putri. She's smart," Mr. Tryo offered.
"Putri is pretty, but..."
"HUH? YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT? FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I DON'T WANT TO SIT NEXT TO YOU EITHER!" Putri fired back.
"Alright, sorry, ma'am," Doyo said, his courage shrinking instantly.
"Good. If there are no more objections, that's settled."
(Doyo walked off, shooting a sharp glare at Rasya.)
"Sya, remember the blanket theory, comfortable or not, hehe," Gota whispered from behind.
........
Second by second, minute by minute, in the middle of the silence and awkwardness, Fitri finally spoke to me. "You're Rasya, right? Nice to meet you!"
"Yeah! Nice to meet you too!" I answered, trying to hide my nerves. After that, no more words were exchanged.
'Ugh, what now? Should I ask her if she owns a chicken? Or maybe if she keeps worms? Damn it'.
Out of nowhere, she blurted out, "Do you own a chicken?"
"Huh?" I was looked confused, completely thrown off by the question.
"Sorry, ..it was so quiet I didn't know what to talk about, so it just came out," she said.
(Awkward silence...........)
For a while, I look at her. She really was pretty. She had this sparkle in her eyes that I didn't have, a look that seemed to say, "I can do this. I'll get through everything!" But despite all that, I could still feel Doyo's piercing stare from across the room.
......
Days passed. The shyness I once felt faded, and I no longer hesitated to joke around with her, sitting right next to me. She was ambitious, so ambitious!, in fact, that she even offered to do my assignments for me. Casually, she said, "Rasya, do you want me to do your homework too?" Yeah, right. Of course I refused. Where's my pride?! I thought.
Then Doyo and Gota came over.
"Sya, is your homework done?"
"I was too lazy to do it last night, but then suddenly Fitri messaged me, offering to help," Gota chimed in.
"Wait, wait...so both of you already have your homework done? What about me, then? You traitors!"
Hearing that, Fitri glanced at me with a faint smile. "So... do you want my help or not? Hmm~ or else you'll get punished all alone. Poor you~"
"Ugh, fine..just teach me, don't actually do it for me."
"Hahahaha, looks like Rasya found his comfortable blanket," Gota teased.
Unwilling to accept that, Doyo cut in, "Wait, didn't we already agree it's not a blanket, but snacks?"
"Huh? Wait, you guys are still talking about that? I'm genuinely confused."
