Chima's Room - Nighttime
Chima's room looked like a yarn bomb had exploded. Colorful balls of thread were scattered everywhere; on the bed, on the floor, even dangling from the desk lamp. Skeins of wool in every shade imaginable formed a chaotic rainbow across the small space.
In the middle of it all sat Chima, cross-legged on the floor, wearing reading glasses that made her look unexpectedly adorable. Her face was scrunched in concentration, her tongue poking out slightly as she gripped two knitting needles with the intensity of a warrior preparing for battle.
In front of her lay a half-finished scarf in soft baby blue.
"One... two... three... stitch... four... five... wait, no!" Chima muttered, yanking the yarn in frustration. The knitting loosened, strands unraveling.
"Ugh! This is so hard! I'd rather punch someone than knit!"
She threw the needles onto the floor with a clatter. They bounced against the carpet and rolled under the bed.
For a moment, she just sat there, staring at the mess.
Then, slowly, she reached under the bed and pulled the needles back out. Her expression softened.
"But... for Naila... it has to be perfect."
Chima resumed her work, fingers moving carefully, awkwardly. Next to her lay a beginner's knitting guide titled "Knitting for Dummies." Tucked into the pages was a small, folded note covered in her messy handwriting:
"For Naila. So she won't be cold. So she knows she's cared for."

The Cafe - Afternoon
The afternoon sun streamed through the cafe windows, warming the four girls seated at their usual corner table. Fatimah sipped her coffee, Wony examined her nails, Alice devoured a slice of cake, and Naila was doing what she did best: looking like she was about to fall asleep.
"Where's Chima?" Alice asked, her mouth full of frosting. "She's usually the first one here."
Wony shrugged elegantly. "No idea. Maybe she's busy."
Naila yawned, stretching lazily. "I'm kind of glad she's not here. That means I can sleep in peace."
Fatimah laughed softly. "Naila, you are... well, never mind."
Suddenly, Chima burst through the cafe door, walking so fast she almost tripped over a chair. She looked nervous, fidgeting, eyes darting, clutching a brown paper bag like it contained state secrets.
"Hi," she said breathlessly, sliding into her seat. "Sorry I'm late."
Alice squinted suspiciously. "Chima... what's wrong? Your face is all weird. Like you're hiding something."
Chima stiffened. "Nothing! There's nothing!"
Wony's eyes drifted to the paper bag. "What's that?"
Chima yanked the bag behind her back. "Nothing important!"
Alice's curiosity was piqued. She lunged forward, trying to grab the bag. "Let me see! It's gotta be something interesting!"
Chima jerked away, her face turning bright red. "Alice! Don't touch it!"
Her shout made everyone in the cafe turn and stare. Chima's face went from red to crimson.
Fatimah held up a calming hand. "Chima, relax. We're just curious. What did you bring?"
Chima took a deep breath, then looked directly at Naila. "It's... for Naila."
Naila blinked, suddenly wide awake. "For me? What is it?"
With trembling hands, Chima pulled out the contents of the bag.
A knitted scarf. Soft baby blue. The shape was... a bit odd. Some parts were loose, others too tight. The edges were uneven, and there were a few holes where stitches had been dropped. But it was undeniably made with care.
Everyone gasped.
"WOW!" Alice's jaw dropped. "Chima... you... knitted?!"
Wony took the scarf carefully, examining it like a museum artifact. "The knitting isn't symmetrical. But..." She looked up, genuinely impressed. "This is handmade. You made this yourself?"
Chima looked down, her voice barely above a mumble. "Yeah. I learned from YouTube. For a week. My hands cramped. My fingers kept getting poked by the needles."
She held up her hands, revealing several fingers covered in small bandages.
Naila reached for the scarf, her hands shaking. Her eyes glistened. "Chima... this... for me?"
Chima still wouldn't look up. Her voice was rough, emotional. "Yeah. Because... you're always cold. And you like sleeping in cold places. So I thought... this scarf could keep you warm. So you... so you won't get sick."
Naila was silent. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Chima..." she whispered. "You... you knitted for me?"
Chima finally met her eyes, her face still flushed. "Yeah. Because... you're are my best friend. And I care about you. Not like the others. I mean. I care about all of you! But you... you're special. Because you took care of me when I was in the hospital. So I wanted... I wanted to repay you."
The table fell silent. Even Alice was speechless.
Fatimah smiled warmly. "Chima... that's so sweet."
Wony dabbed at her eyes, trying to maintain her composure. "I'm... almost crying. This is so touching."
Alice launched herself at Chima, wrapping her in a tight hug. "Chima! You're actually really nice! I can't believe it!"
Chima squirmed, trying to escape. "ALICE! LET GO! I'M STILL FIERCE!"
"I don't care!" Alice squeezed tighter. "You're fierce, but your heart is soft!"
Naila was still holding the scarf, stroking it gently. "Chima... I don't know what to say. This is... the best gift I've ever received."
Chima looked away, embarrassed. "Just make sure you actually wear it. Don't just keep it in your closet."
Naila nodded, immediately wrapping the scarf around her neck. It was too long and a bit lumpy, but she wore it with pride.
"So warm!" Naila beamed. "Chima, you're amazing!"
Chima's face turned red again. "Okay, okay. Stop complimenting me. It's embarrassing."
Alice started laughing. "Chima is blushing! Chima is blushing! I'm taking a photo!"
"NO PHOTOS!"
They all burst into laughter. Naila clutched the scarf at her neck, her eyes still glistening, her smile wider than it had been in weeks.

The Park - Evening
The five girls walked through the park as the sun began to set. Naila was still wearing the blue scarf, even though it was warm outside. Chima walked beside her, looking awkward but pleased.
Naila smiled up at her. "Chima... thank you so much. I'll take good care of this scarf. I promise."
Chima scratched the back of her head, embarrassed. "Yeah, well. Just don't sleep in it, okay? You might choke yourself."
Naila laughed. "I promise I won't."

In Front of Naila's House - Nighttime
They walked Naila to her front door. She was still wearing the scarf, refusing to take it off.
Naila looked at Chima, her expression soft. "Chima... tomorrow, can you teach me how to knit?"
Chima stared at her. "You? Knit? You, the lazy one?"
Naila nodded firmly. "Yes. I want to make something for you too."
Chima was speechless. Her face went red again.
"Uh... yeah, okay. But don't be lazy, got it? Knitting takes patience."
Naila smiled. "I promise I won't be lazy. For you."
She waved goodbye and disappeared inside. Chima stood frozen, staring at the closed door.
Her friends watched from behind, grinning.
"Someone's got a soft spot," Alice teased.
"SHUT UP, ALICE!"
They all laughed, walking away into the night.
Inside her room, Naila held the scarf up to her face, breathing in its warmth. It smelled faintly of Chima's room, of her perfume, of her presence.
For the first time in a long time, Naila felt completely and utterly warm.98Please respect copyright.PENANAINzuOKaEpn
