Unfortunate or Fortunate - Butterflies

The next morning...

I was running late for college.

As soon as I reached campus, my friends spotted me from a distance.

The moment I sat down, they started giggling.

"What?" I asked, already suspicious.

"Sooo..." one of them dragged out. "How did it go?"

"How did what go?"

"With that guy."

I blinked.

"What guy?"

"Oh, don't play dumb," another friend laughed. "Alex."

I nearly choked on my water.

"There was nothing to tell!"

"Oh, please," she rolled her eyes. "That boy spent the entire evening stealing glances at you."

"It took him forever to gather enough courage just to come sit beside you."

"And after everyone left..." another one added, trying not to laugh, "his friend actually called me."

"What?"

"Yeah."

"He asked if you'd reached home safely."

I frowned.

"Why didn't Alex just text me himself?"

"Oh, he did."

Apparently...

Alex had been worrying so much that he'd started pestering his friend to ask my friend whether I was home safely.

For a moment...

My brain stopped working.

Then it hit me.

"...Oh no."

I had forgotten.

Completely forgotten.

I quickly pulled out my phone and opened our chat.

There they were.

Alex: Hey, did you reach home?

Ten minutes later...

Alex: Hey... you reached?

And after waiting another half an hour...

Alex: Sleep well.

That explained the phone call.

My friend had checked on me somewhere between those messages.

I slowly lowered my phone.

"...Man..."

I buried my face in my hands while my friends burst into laughter.

I don't know what was happening to me.

But I swear...

It felt like a whole colony of butterflies had decided my stomach was the perfect place to lay their eggs.
