The food arrived.

So did the drinks.

Everyone was talking over each other, laughing, sharing stories from the event, while I quietly watched my girls being their usual gorgeous selves.

Seriously...

How were they all so pretty?

And these idiots actually thought they had a chance with them?

Life really was unfair.

I was busy judging the guys when someone lightly tapped my shoulder.

"Mind if I sit here?"

I looked up.

It was one of the guys from the other group.

Unlike the rest, he seemed... quiet.

Almost shy.

Like he'd rather disappear into the background than be the center of attention.

I didn't really care either way.

"Sure," I shrugged.

He took the empty seat beside me.

That was it.

Or at least...

That's what I thought.

A few drinks later, I was already tipsy.

I don't even remember what I was talking about.

Probably something completely random.

I just kept rambling, jumping from one topic to another without making much sense.

He never interrupted.

He just listened.

Every now and then, he'd smile—that small, gentle smile of his.

Maybe it was the alcohol...

Then everything changed.

From the table next to ours, one of the guys let out a chuckle before saying, just loud enough for us to hear,

"Look at them... bunch of sluts."

The laughter that followed made my blood boil.

Before my brain could catch up, I was already on my feet.

"What the hell did you just say?"

My friends immediately grabbed my arm, trying to stop me.

"Leave it."

"It's not worth it."

"Come back."

Everyone was trying to calm me down.

Everyone...

Except him.

He simply stood beside me.

Silent.

He didn't tell me to stop.

He didn't pull me back.

He didn't say a single word.

Within minutes, the restaurant manager rushed over and threw both groups out before things could get any worse.

By the time we reached the parking lot, everyone started heading home.

Some left in cabs.

Some walked away in pairs.

Within a few minutes...

It was just me.

And him.

Looking back now...

I really should've gone home the moment I had the chance.
