I met my friend Samuel at the school playground. He’s the only real friend i’ve met at this school. He’s still pretty fun even though he likes school.
We like to pull pranks on Carol, Alice, and her other friend Dania. We can make Carol shrieking about just a paper lantern into a funny instead of horrifying thing.
Samuel and I have come up with even more creative pranks lately. Yesterday, we filled Alice's backpack with mini balloons. And the day before that, we put a fake spider on Carol’s sandwich. It’s still worth it even though Carol, being the tattletale she is, always tattles on us.
"Hi 'Jen!" Samuel beamed when he found me. "My mom enrolled me to the dance class."
"Same." I respond. My mom forced me.

In the car, my mom had some news.
"Jenny, I enrolled you into dance!" Mom spilled the tea.
"Why." I ask. "I don't want to, especially now that they're teaching-ugh- ballet."
"That's the exact reason i'm sending you in!" My mom explained. "Most of your dance classes are just hip-hop or k-pop, plus, weren't you crushed when your friends Chris and Dania joined without you?"
"Who cares," I groan. "Chris moved to Alaska this summer, and Dania left me for Carol, all because she forgot to tell her mom about me."
"Jenny, I know you're upset about losing friends, but dance class could be a great opportunity to make new ones. Plus, it's good exercise and will help you stay active." My mom sighed. “Speaking of Chris… His mom just sent a photo”

She handed me her phone. She got all the moms’ numbers before third grade ended.
The picture was Chris petting a dog, another boy with blonde and brown hair and a Levi’s T-shirt petting the dog on the other side, and some redhead girl with a pink dress sitting down while petting the dog.
I just huffed on the outside, but on the inside I wanted to click on the message and press the thumbs down, so bad. I should have been squished in with them, petting that dog too. I could have thrown a tantrum, but I didn’t.

"So how's your mom?" Samuel asked.
"She still won't let me pull back." I respond. "At least Carol's not joining this time."
"Why not?" Samuel looked confused. "She joins every after school club she sees."
"Dance class overlaps with her last two Korean classes and singing class, and her first three cooking classes." I answer. "But that also means we can't prank her in dance class, either."
