The Void Oak sensed its control slipping. In a final, desperate act, it lashed out with every gnarled branch at once, trying to crush the two heroes under a mountain of rotting wood and dark memories.
"Konone, let’s show them the power of a perfect lunch break!" Yui shouted, her spirit burning brighter than ever.
"Target locked," Konone replied, her flames shifting from a desperate flicker to a roaring, steady crimson. "Maximum output!"
The two heroes moved in a perfect, synchronized blur. Yui skated through the air on paths of shimmering frost, her rapier slicing through the reaching branches like they were made of dry straw. Every time a branch tried to trap her, a blast of fire from Konone’s gauntlets vaporized it instantly.
"Now, the finishing blow!"
They met at the base of the massive trunk. Konone gripped Yui’s hand, merging their powers into a swirling vortex of steam and light.
"Blazing Heart Finale... STEAM PRESSURE BURST!"
A massive beam of superheated energy slammed into the core of the Void Oak. The faces in the bark screamed one last time before the entire tree turned into a pillar of pure white light. With a thunderous BOOM, the monster disintegrated, and the dark blizzard that had choked the library vanished.
High above, Mahiru hissed as the shockwave nearly knocked her off her feet. Her violet eyes darted between the two girls, her expression one of pure, unadulterated shock.
"The King was wrong about you, Hanamachi Yui," she whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of fury and fear. "But don't think this is over. The deeper you go, the colder the Void becomes."
Before Konone could lunged toward her, Mahiru snapped her fingers. A rift of violet lightning tore open behind her, and she stepped into it, vanishing just as the school bells began to chime their normal Saturday afternoon melody.
The library returned to its eerie, quiet self—ruined, but free.
Floating in the center of the debris was a small, glowing card. It hummed with a gentle, earthy gold light. Yui reached out, and as her fingers touched it, the image of a Great Oak appeared on the face: The 5th Heart Card — The Card of Resilience.
"We got it," Yui breathed, the card’s warmth flowing into her palm. She turned to Konone, her transformation fading. "And we did it together."
Konone slumped against a partially melted bookshelf, let out a long, shaky breath. She looked at her burnt hand, which was already beginning to heal. "Yui... when you were... like that... I thought I had lost everything again."
Yui didn't say a word. She just walked over and pulled Konone into a massive, rib-crushing hug.
"You're never going to lose me, Konone," Yui promised, her voice muffled by Konone's shoulder. "I'm way too stubborn for the Void. Besides, we still have that study session to finish, right?"
Konone laughed—a real, genuine sound that echoed through the empty school. "I believe the 'Academic Sector' is beyond saving for today, Yui. Let us go find those cat-shaped buns instead."
As the two girls walked out of the school, hand in hand, the sun began to peek through the clouds. They didn't see the dark shadow watching them from the rooftop, but for the first time, it didn't matter. The Ice had been broken, and the Fire was stronger than ever.56Please respect copyright.PENANAgKOAhdDOlS
