Chapter 9 – The Key Within

Something was glowing beneath my skin.

A faint pink light.

The same color as the house.

I stared at my hands in horror.

“What is happening to me?”

Navya stepped back, frightened but worried.

“No... this can't be real.”

The pale boy looked terrified.

Now he finally understood.

“The gate didn't just open for you,” he whispered.

“It chose you.”

Outside the temple, the girl smiled.

The thousands of pigeons surrounding the temple suddenly became silent.

Not a single wing moved.

Not a single sound came from the forest.

Everything was waiting.

Waiting for me.

The pink light beneath my skin spread slowly up my arms.

It felt cold.

Very cold.

Then memories flashed through my mind.

Not my memories.

Someone else's.

I saw the pink house long ago.

It wasn't abandoned.

People lived there.

Children played outside.

Birds sat peacefully on the roof.

Then one day—

A young girl arrived.

She looked normal.

Kind.

Lonely.

The villagers welcomed her.

But they didn't know what she truly was.

Night after night, strange things began happening.

People disappeared.

Birds changed.

Shadows moved on their own.

Eventually the villagers discovered the truth.

The girl carried an ancient magic inside her.

A magic that wanted to consume the world.

To stop her, the villagers trapped her inside a palace between worlds.

But the prison wasn't perfect.

A small connection remained.

The pink house.

The last doorway.

The vision ended.

I fell to my knees.

Navya helped me up.

“What did you see?”

Before I could answer, the girl spoke from outside.

“They stole everything from me.”

Her voice sounded angry.

And sad.

“For centuries I waited.”

The temple trembled again.

Cracks spread across the floor.

The pigeons began screaming.

Thousands of voices at once.

The pale boy looked at the lamp.

“We're running out of time!”

The lamp still wasn't fully lit.

Its tiny flame flickered weakly.

The girl slowly walked toward the temple entrance.

For the first time, the invisible barrier seemed to weaken.

Step.

Each step caused another crack to appear in the temple walls.

Navya's eyes widened.

“She can enter!”

The pale boy shook his head.

“No... if she enters before sunrise, everything is over.”

The girl stopped at the doorway.

Her empty eyes locked onto mine.

Then she stretched out her hand.

“Come with me,” she whispered.

The pink light inside my body suddenly burned brighter.

Pain shot through my chest.

And to my horror—

My feet began moving toward her on their own.

“NO!” Navya shouted, grabbing my arm.

But something stronger was pulling me forward.

The girl smiled.

The temple shook.

The barrier cracked.

And far above the forest, the first hint of dawn began to appear.
