Chapter 2: The Man Who Was There

The second case happened three days later.

Same silence.

Same stillness.

Same confusion frozen on a lifeless face.

But this time—

there was someone there.

He sat on the floor, back against the wall, staring at his hands as if they didn’t belong to him.

Officer Raghav stepped inside slowly.

“Don’t move.”

The man didn’t react.

Not fear.

Not panic.

Just emptiness.

Constables moved forward and held him, but he didn’t resist. Not even a little.

It was like he was already somewhere else.

At the station, under the harsh white lights, he finally spoke.

Softly.

“It happened again.”

Raghav leaned forward.

“What happened?”

The man blinked slowly.

“The sound.”

“What sound?”

A pause.

Then—

“Ding… dong.”

Raghav’s jaw tightened.

“Did you kill him?”

The man’s eyes widened slightly.

Not in guilt.

In confusion.

“I… don’t know.”

“You were there.”

“I know… but I don’t remember being there.”

Raghav slammed the table lightly.

“Then explain!”

The man flinched.

For the first time, emotion appeared.

Fear.

Real fear.

He grabbed his head tightly.

“It comes… and everything goes quiet… like I disappear.”

Raghav stared at him.

“Disappear?”

The man whispered:

“Not outside… inside.”

Silence filled the room.

For a moment, even Raghav didn’t know what to ask next.

Because something about the way he said it…

didn’t sound like a lie.
