Aanya stopped sleeping.

Days passed, but time felt broken.

Every second echoed with the same words—

“Time is limited.”

She tried to ignore it.

Tried to act normal.

But everywhere she went, the world felt… different.

People weren’t just people anymore.

They were possibilities.

That night, rain poured heavily over the city.

Aanya stood near her window, staring outside.

Her reflection looked unfamiliar.

Pale. Tired.

Afraid.

“I don’t want to die…” she whispered.

The words felt weak now.

Useless.

Her phone buzzed.

A message.

Meera:

“Hey, you okay? You’ve been acting strange…”

Aanya stared at the screen.

Her fingers trembled.

She trusts me.

She cares about me.

For a moment, Aanya’s chest tightened with guilt.

“No…” she whispered, shaking her head. “Not her…”

But then—

The hospital flashed in her mind again.

Her lifeless body.

Cold.

Alone.

Fear crushed everything else.

“I don’t have a choice…” she said, her voice breaking.

The rain grew louder.

Almost like it was warning her.

“Just… just one person…” Aanya whispered.

“If I do this… I can live…”

Her breathing became uneven.

Her thoughts twisted.

Everyone dies someday…

So what difference does it make…?

Silence filled the room.

Heavy.

Unforgiving.

Aanya slowly picked up her phone.

Her hands were shaking as she typed.

Aanya:

“Hey… can you meet me tomorrow? I need to show you something important.”

She stared at the message.

Her heart screamed at her to stop.

To delete it.

To run.

But her finger pressed send.

The moment it was done—

Something changed.

The room grew cold.

The lights flickered.

And behind her…

A presence.

Aanya froze.

She didn’t need to turn around.

She already knew.

“The choice has begun.”

Her breath trembled. “I didn’t do anything yet…”

“You decided.”

A tear rolled down her cheek.

“I can still stop…”

Silence.

Then—

A soft, almost amused whisper:

“Can you?”

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the room.

And in that darkness…

Aanya felt it.

Something inside her breaking.
