Chapter 10: The Girl in the Mirror

Aanya stopped going outside.

Stopped answering calls.

Stopped sleeping.

Because every time she closed her eyes—

She saw herself.

Sitting on the chair.

Smiling.

Waiting.

And every morning…

Things were changing.

Small things at first.

Objects moved on their own.

Messages appeared on her phone that she never typed.

People stared at her strangely.

As if something about her felt… wrong.

Then came the mirror.

Aanya was washing her face late at night when she noticed it.

Her reflection wasn’t copying her movements.

Her hands froze.

But the reflection kept moving.

Slowly—

It smiled.

Aanya stumbled backward in terror.

“No…”

The reflection tilted its head.

“You’re afraid of yourself now?”

It was her voice.

But colder.

“What are you?” Aanya whispered.

The reflection touched the mirror from inside.

“You already know.”

A crack spread across the glass.

Aanya’s breathing became uneven.

“You’re not real…”

The reflection laughed softly.

“I am the part of you the chair owns.”

The lights flickered violently.

Aanya backed away.

“What do you want from me?!”

The reflection’s smile widened.

“To finish becoming you.”

Silence.

Aanya’s heart stopped.

“What…?”

The reflection stepped closer inside the mirror.

“Every day, you lose more control.”

Suddenly—

A sharp pain exploded through Aanya’s head.

She screamed, collapsing to the floor.

Memories flashed through her mind—

Walking through streets she didn’t remember visiting.

Standing outside strangers’ houses.

Whispering things in voices that weren’t hers.

“No…” Aanya gasped.

The reflection watched calmly.

“You thought the trade ended.”

The mirror darkened.

“But it only opened the door.”

Aanya tried to stand—

Then froze.

Her phone screen lit up beside her.

One new message.

Unknown Number.

“I saw your future too.”

Aanya’s blood ran cold.

Another message arrived.

“The chair chose me next.”

A picture.

A dark room.

An old wooden chair.

And someone sitting on it.

Smiling.

Aanya dropped the phone instantly.

“No… no, it’s spreading…”

The reflection smiled wider.

“Yes.”

“It always spreads.”

Aanya shook her head violently.

“I won’t let this happen again!”

The reflection leaned closer.

“You already did.”

The mirror suddenly shattered.

Glass exploded across the room.

Aanya screamed, shielding herself—

But one shard remained hanging unnaturally in the air.

Inside the shard—

She saw Meera.

Not trapped.

Not fading.

Watching.

Crying.

And behind her—

The shadow.

Smiling.

Then Meera mouthed three words silently:

“Burn the chair.”

The shard shattered.

Everything went dark.

And somewhere in the darkness—

The chair creaked.

Like it was laughing.
