I just landed on the grass just as I hear a scream of pain. My eyes widened as I rolled over on my back and sat up. Blood everywhere, I see Avi, clutching his eye with both hands. This is not good. I look around to see if anyone’s around to have done this and then I see it. I see them. It’s a slimy, black, inky child. Or, almost inky. It looks more like half dried paint. It’s holding a huge mace, decorated with sharp silverware. It throws forks and knives at us one more time before disappearing into the dark of night. I quickly grab Avi’s shoulders, moving him out of the way of the projectiles. He flinches in pain, and I’m suddenly sorry for him.9Please respect copyright.PENANAoMd18cf5pr
“Avi, you alright?”9Please respect copyright.PENANAYudyzD4mzv
No answer.
He turned to lean his head on the grass, and by the look of it, he was crying. I pat his shoulder, an attempt of comforting him, but in all of this, it was hard. I hear him quietly mumble something like ‘Let’s go,’ and I help him to his feet. I prop him up with my arm as he leans over me like I’m a crutch, and we carefully walk back to the hospital.9Please respect copyright.PENANABtK6TqMBpu

When we made it back, Hapi gasped as we walked through the double doors. I was about to explain what happened, guessing that she was dumbfounded by Avi’s physical state, but she just turned away and seemed to focus on these papers rather than what I had at my side.9Please respect copyright.PENANAfydZFmaOd6

“W-What happened…? Is he alright?” She finally asked, after standing there for what seemed like 5 minutes. I sighed. I shook my head, even though she wouldn’t have been able to see it since she was “busy” looking at some papers.9Please respect copyright.PENANA6KV3zeqeRc

“He’s fine… Hopefully. I mean, he’s alive. Just a little bloody, that’s all. Wanna take him to Linka for me? I’m about to head back to my dorm–” She turned around quickly, her curly hair whizzing past her eyes that locked on mine. “Please take him to Nurse Linka. I’m a little scared of her office an-” She gags after her eyes go down to Avi. She turns around again, clutching her stomach.9Please respect copyright.PENANAXutxRkSUwH
“You may go now!” She quickly shoos me out of her office and closes the door behind us. I linger at the door for a moment, thinking about my path to Linka when I hear her vomit. I think she didn’t like how… Sliced up Avi was.9Please respect copyright.PENANAeBUtBOW4TB

I walk Avi down the halls until I make it to Linka’s office. I’m about to lightly knock on the door when I hear panting behind me. I turn around to see Linka in pajamas. I’m about to ask when she explains to me, trying to cope with her door, shoving key after key into it, like she’s planning on trying every key out.9Please respect copyright.PENANA0NyCRcybSu
“I’m supposed to be in the office but I was really tired so I decided to take a nap and then Axel called me and asked me where I was and I lied saying I was in my office and he said he was coming to my office to check on me in 20 minutes.” She said it all in one, big breath, like if she didn’t say it faster, Axel would come running down the halls. When she finally opened the doors, she invited me in, not surprised at all that Avi was in this state. She started doing the initial check up calmly, like she dealt with worse, and I’m guessing she did. While doing the eye test, she winces every time Avi says something obviously wrong. Like ‘C’ when it was F. 9Please respect copyright.PENANAQh1WeHS1Ly

When we walked out, Avi was wearing an eye patch on his right eye, a cast on his right arm, and was wearing these sunglasses that said ‘Looking cool as ever!” on the temple. He got a free water bottle, along with a sticker that he held in his casted hand. “Good Job!” it read, with an elephant giving a thumbs up. I was licking a lollypop that Linka gave him, since he wasn't allowed to eat anything for the next 30 minutes because of the treatment he was given.9Please respect copyright.PENANAgS9BmM6r33

“Do you think they will make me talk to the Detective?” He finally asked, still looking down at his bright pink cast as they walked. I shook my head. The Detective was a person that nobody knew, not even some of the higher authorities. He would ask people questions about the Lurks they encountered before to figure out a cure and such, or who was sending them out in the first place.9Please respect copyright.PENANAUocTp2LPNx
“I don’t think so. We don’t even know who he is. Why would they make us talk to him if we’re not allowed to know who he is? It might reveal something about him.” Avi smiled when I said that, and he itched under his cast a little bit.9Please respect copyright.PENANAZ4f74AiaUY
“I think that he might be from another universe, or even another dimension!” He said it with a hint of satire in his voice, and I laughed.9Please respect copyright.PENANAVTHAvaJJFm
“As if.” I countered, keeping him from falling over. 9Please respect copyright.PENANAAWesJs9bn4
“But honestly, we never know.”
