The decision had been made.
Over the weekend, after Mira Silverthorne’s remarkable demonstration inside her sanctuary suitcase, Professor Albus Dumbledore and the Hogwarts staff had unanimously agreed to her proposal.
Magical creatures from Mira’s sanctuary would assist the school.
It was, by Hogwarts standards, an unusual arrangement.
But then again, Hogwarts had always been a place where unusual things flourished.
Still, no one quite expected the effect it would have.
Monday morning arrived bright and crisp.
And by the end of the day, the castle would feel very different.
Students began whispering about it before breakfast had even finished.
A Hufflepuff second-year burst into the Great Hall breathless.
“There’s a phoenix in the Charms classroom!”
A Ravenclaw girl shook her head.
“That’s impossible.”
“I’m serious!”
At the Gryffindor table, Dean Thomas leaned toward Seamus.
“I heard Madam Hooch’s flying lesson now has a hippogriff.”
Seamus nearly choked on his pumpkin juice.
“An actual hippogriff?”
At the Slytherin table, Draco Malfoy calmly spread butter on his toast while chaos unfolded around him.
Theo Nott leaned forward, “This is your friend’s doing, isn’t it?”
Draco smirked, “Of course.”
Across from him, Mira quietly fed Pip a small berry.
Pip chirped happily, his golden badge glinting.
Blaise Zabini shook his head, “You’ve accidentally revolutionized Hogwarts.”
Mira blinked, “I didn’t mean to revolutionize anything.”
Theo snorted, “Too late.”
The first class of the day was Charms.
Students entered Professor Flitwick’s classroom expecting the usual lesson on wand movements.
Instead, they froze.
Perched gracefully on the high window frame was a magnificent creature.
A bird of pure white fire.
Its feathers shimmered softly with golden light.
Its eyes were calm and intelligent.
“A phoenix,” whispered Hermione Granger in awe.
Professor Flitwick beamed from atop his stack of books, “Ah, you’ve noticed our guest!”
The phoenix descended slowly and landed beside the professor.
“This,” Flitwick announced proudly, “is Aurelion, a white phoenix who has kindly agreed to assist with Charms instruction.”
Harry Potter leaned toward Ron, “Did Hogwarts always have phoenix assistants?”
Ron shook his head slowly, “No idea.”
Flitwick clapped his hands, “Today we will be practicing levitation charms.” He gestured toward Aurelion, “A phoenix possesses a remarkable ability to sense magical resonance.”
Aurelion spread his wings slightly.
The classroom filled with warm light.
“Observe carefully,” Flitwick said.
Hermione raised her wand, “Wingardium Leviosa.”
Her feather lifted easily.
But Neville Longbottom’s feather refused to move.
Neville sighed.
Aurelion stepped closer.
The phoenix gently brushed Neville’s wand with one glowing feather.
“Try again,” Flitwick encouraged.
Neville swallowed, “Wingardium Leviosa!”
The feather rose.
Neville gasped, “It worked!”
Aurelion chirped softly.
Flitwick beamed, “Marvelous!”
The class buzzed with excitement.
Of course, not everything went perfectly.
Ron’s feather suddenly shot upward and stuck to the ceiling.
Seamus accidentally levitated his entire desk.
A Hufflepuff student briefly levitated himself.
Aurelion swooped gracefully through the room, gently guiding unstable spells back under control.
Flitwick laughed delightedly, “Extraordinary!”
By the end of class, nearly every student had improved their spellcasting.
Hermione looked thoughtful, “That phoenix stabilizes magical fluctuations.”
Harry nodded, “And Mira Silverthorne brought it.”
Ron blinked, “Who?”
Meanwhile, chaos had arrived on the Hogwarts grounds.
First-year flying lessons were already nerve-wracking.
But today…
The students froze when they saw what waited on the field.
Madam Hooch stood beside three magnificent creatures.
Valion the Hippogriff stood tall and proud.
Solareth the Griffin spread golden wings in the sunlight.
Above them circled Athena the Lunar Spire Owl, glowing softly.
Ron whispered, “We’re going to die.”
Madam Hooch blew her whistle, “Everyone relax!” She gestured toward the creatures, “These three will assist with flight balance and aerial awareness.”
Draco folded his arms smugly, “This is going to be brilliant.”
Harry stared at Solareth, “That’s a griffin.”
Ron muttered, “I know what a griffin is!”
Students mounted their brooms nervously.
“Up!” shouted Madam Hooch.
Brooms jumped into hands.
Neville’s broom shot upward immediately.
But before he could panic, Athena swooped low and guided the broom gently back down.
Neville blinked, “Thank you?”
The owl hooted softly.
Nearby, Valion the Hippogriff walked among the students, ensuring proper posture.
Whenever someone leaned too far forward or back, Valion nudged their broom into balance.
Solareth soared overhead, watching like a silent guardian.
The effect was astonishing.
Students who normally struggled with flying began improving rapidly.
Madam Hooch watched with delight, “Best flying lesson I’ve ever supervised.”
Of course, accidents still happened.
Seamus Finnigan tilted too sharply and nearly collided with another student.
Before disaster struck, Solareth dove gracefully between them, stabilizing both brooms with a powerful gust of wingbeat.
The class erupted into cheers.
Seamus blinked, “Did the griffin just save my life?”
Madam Hooch grinned, “Yes. Try not to require it again.”
Meanwhile, Professor Sprout’s Herbology class had become a spectacle.
Students entered the greenhouse to find it bursting with life.
Plants grew taller and healthier than ever.
Tiny glowing figures darted among the vines.
“Bloom-fey!” shouted a Hufflepuff.
Petalune fluttered happily among the flowers.
Azuria the Hydro-Fairy Sprite lightly sprinkled water onto the plants that needed water.
Twig the Bowtruckle clung to a branch, carefully repairing damaged bark.
And at the center of the greenhouse stood King Oberyn and Queen Lysara, surrounded by the Fae Court.
Sprout beamed, “Look at them!”
A mandrake sprout popped up.
Instead of screaming violently, it hummed softly.
Sprout nearly cried with happiness, “This is the most cooperative mandrake I’ve ever seen!”
Near the edge of the Forbidden Forest, Hagrid’s class had gathered nervously.
Then something enormous burst through the trees.
A brilliant creature streaked across the field like a living rainbow.
“ZOUWU!” shouted Hagrid proudly.
Esen skidded to a playful stop.
Beside him emerged Terron the Siege Stag, majestic and calm.
Then the Tokota pair—Kaelen and Noa—approached quietly.
Students stared in awe.
“These creatures,” Hagrid explained, “are here to help teach proper magical creature respect.”
Kaelen gently guided a nervous student’s hand toward Terron’s fur.
“See?” Hagrid said, “Trust.”
The lesson was unforgettable.
In the dungeons, Professor Snape stood silently observing his class.
Beside him coiled Anemone the Venomshade Serpent.
Students stirred potions nervously.
When a student nearly added the wrong ingredient, Anemone hissed softly.
Snape’s eyebrow lifted, “…Correct your mistake.”
The student obeyed instantly.
No potion exploded that day.
Snape seemed quietly satisfied.
In the Hogwarts library, Madam Pince stared in disbelief.
Books flew gently through the air.
Scrolls sorted themselves.
Quill the Scriptwing Pagefinder fluttered between shelves.
Whispen and Quorra the Scribe-Moths hovered above stacks of ancient texts.
Madam Pince whispered, “…This is the most organized my library has ever been.”
Elsewhere in the castle, two kneazles wandered the corridors.
Milo and Sage found homesick first-years and curled beside them.
Students who had cried the night before suddenly felt calmer.
Up in the dormitories, Nerune the Lunar Nymfox and Astrea the Star-Wing Cat comforted students with nightmares.
Somnus the Dream Weaver Moth drifted gently through the air, weaving peaceful dreams.
And everywhere else…
Tiny dragons zipped through the castle.
Meridian, Eventide, Nightfall, and Daybreak delighted students from every house.
They perched on shoulders, chased floating feathers, and occasionally curled up beside fireplaces.
Even the most serious students couldn’t help smiling.
By evening, the professors gathered again in the staff room.
Flitwick was glowing with excitement, “Aurelion stabilized every charm!”
Sprout clapped happily, “My plants have never been healthier!”
Hooch laughed, “Flying accidents reduced by half!”
Snape simply said, “…Potions class proceeded without catastrophe.”
McGonagall nodded thoughtfully, “All thanks to one student.”
At dinner that night, students whispered constantly.
“Did you see the phoenix?”
“The griffin saved Seamus!”
“The fae court fixed the greenhouse!”
“Who came up with this?”
The answer spread quickly.
“Mira Silverthorne.”
Draco leaned toward her, “You’ve become famous.”
Theo grinned, “Visionary first-year.”
Mira blushed slightly, “I just wanted people to see magical creatures differently.”
Pip chirped proudly beside her.
Across the Great Hall, Professor Dumbledore watched quietly.
His eyes twinkled.
Because in all his long years at Hogwarts…
He had rarely seen a first-year change the castle so completely.
But Mira Silverthorne had done exactly that.
And this was only the beginning.
