The third week of classes at Hogwarts had passed in a blur.
New spells, shifting staircases, impossible homework assignments, and the constant wonder of living in a castle filled with magic had left most first-years exhausted and overwhelmed.
But for Mira Silverthorne, the third week had also sparked an idea.
An idea that had grown bigger and brighter in her mind with every passing day.
By Saturday morning, she had finally decided to act on it.
Two nights earlier, after finishing her homework in the Slytherin common room, Mira had sat quietly at the long table with parchment spread before her.
Pip the Niffler—Keeper of Lost Things—curled comfortably beside her ink bottle.
Draco Malfoy leaned back in his chair across from her, watching with mild curiosity.
“You’ve been staring at that parchment for ten minutes,” he said.
Mira tapped the quill against her lip thoughtfully, “I’m writing to Professor Dumbledore.”
Draco raised an eyebrow, “That sounds dangerous.”
“It’s an idea,” Mira said.
“About what?” Draco asked.
Mira hesitated, “About my familiars.”
Draco straightened slightly, “You mean the ones in your suitcase?”
Mira nodded, “Yes.”
He leaned forward, “Alright. Now I’m interested.”
Mira smiled faintly, “I think they could help Hogwarts.”
Draco blinked, “You’re proposing… what, exactly?”
Mira gestured vaguely, “Magical creatures helping the professors. Helping the students. Helping the school.”
Draco studied her, “That’s… actually brilliant.”
“Do you think Dumbledore will consider it?” Mira asked, timidly.
Draco smirked, “He absolutely will.”
So Mira wrote the letter.
She explained everything carefully.
About the sanctuary suitcase.
About the creatures she cared for.
About how each one had unique talents.
And how those talents could benefit Hogwarts.
She sealed the letter and sent it off with the school owls.
Three days later, the response arrived.
Saturday morning, just after breakfast, a golden-trimmed envelope appeared beside Mira’s plate.
Draco noticed it immediately, “Important post?”
Mira opened it.
Her eyes widened slightly.
“Well?” Draco asked.
She looked up, “Professor Dumbledore would like to meet with me.”
Draco smirked, “Of course he would.”
She continued reading.
“He’s invited the entire staff.”
Draco blinked, “…The entire staff?”
“Yes.” Mira replied.
Draco leaned back slowly, “Well.” He smiled, “This just became interesting.”
Later that afternoon, Mira and Draco stood before the gargoyle guarding the Headmaster’s office.
“Sherbet lemon,” Mira said after recalling the password from the letter.
The gargoyle slid aside.
The spiral staircase carried them upward.
Draco glanced around as they reached the office, “I’ve never been here before.”
The circular room was filled with strange instruments, books, and portraits of past headmasters.
Behind the desk stood Professor Dumbledore.
But he wasn’t alone.
Every professor was present.
Professor McGonagall stood near the window.
Flitwick sat atop a stack of cushions.
Sprout chatted quietly with Hagrid.
Snape stood near a shelf, arms crossed.
Madam Hooch leaned against the wall.
Draco whispered, “You’ve gathered the entire faculty.”
Mira swallowed slightly.
Dumbledore smiled warmly, “Miss Silverthorne. Mr. Malfoy. Welcome.”
“Your letter was quite fascinating,” Dumbledore said gently.
Mira nodded nervously, “I thought magical creatures might help Hogwarts in ways we hadn’t considered.”
McGonagall folded her arms thoughtfully, “Your proposal is… unusual.”
Snape muttered, “That is one way to describe it.”
Flitwick looked excited, “Creatures assisting with education? Splendid!”
Dumbledore gestured kindly, “You mentioned showing us something.”
Mira nodded, “Yes, sir.”
She placed her sanctuary suitcase on the floor.
Draco stepped back slightly.
Mira unlocked the case.
Light spilled out.
The professors leaned forward.
Then Mira opened the lid.
Gasps filled the room.
Inside the suitcase was not a cramped space.
It was an entire world.
Rolling green hills stretched beneath a bright sky.
Crystal-clear streams flowed between flowering trees.
Glowing plants dotted the landscape.
The environment radiated warmth and magic.
Sprout whispered, “My word…”
Flitwick adjusted his glasses, “Incredible!”
Hagrid beamed, “A whole sanctuary!”
Draco crossed his arms smugly, “Told you it was impressive.”
Mira stepped inside, “Please follow me.”
The professors hesitated briefly.
Then curiosity won.
They stepped into the suitcase.
A flash of radiant light appeared above them.
A magnificent white phoenix soared gracefully through the sky before landing beside Mira.
Its feathers shimmered like starlight.
“This is Aurelion,” Mira said.

Flitwick gasped, “A white phoenix!”
Aurelion bowed his head politely.
“He can help with Charms,” Mira explained.
Flitwick’s eyes sparkled, “A phoenix assisting with magical resonance and spell stabilization…”
He looked delighted, “Remarkable!”
A thunder of wings echoed overhead.
Valion the Hippogriff landed proudly.
Beside him came Solareth the Griffin, majestic and golden.
And circling above them was Athena the Lunar Spire Owl, glowing softly beneath the daylight.

Madam Hooch’s eyes widened, “Well now.”
Mira smiled, “They can help with flying lessons.”
Valion bowed.
Solareth stretched her wings proudly.
Athena glided gracefully.
Hooch laughed, “Students will love them.”

Near a grove of vibrant plants, several smaller creatures appeared.
Twig the Bowtruckle peeked from a branch.
Petalune the Sylvan Bloom-Fey fluttered gracefully through the air.
Azuria the Hydro-Fairy Sprite flew over to Mira's shoulder.
Then a shimmering court of fae emerged.
King Oberyn and Queen Lysara stood proudly among them.
Sprout clasped her hands excitedly, “Oh my goodness!”
Mira nodded, “They can help maintain plant health.”
Sprout beamed, “I would adore their help in the greenhouses.”
{A/N: Kaelen the male Tokota (large wolf dark brown color), Noa the female Tokota (large sandy color wolf), Esen the Zouwu, Terron the Siege Stag (the one with antlers)}
From the forested edge of the sanctuary came powerful footsteps.
Two large wolf-like creatures approached.
“Kaelen and Noa,” Mira said, “The Tokota couple.”
Behind them stepped Terron the Siege Stag, antlers glowing faintly.
Then, in a flash of color and motion, Esen the Zouwu bounded into view.
Hagrid’s jaw dropped, “A Zouwu!”
Mira nodded, “They could help with creature care.”
Hagrid grinned widely, “Best idea I’ve heard all year!”

{A/N: Anemone the Venomshade Serpent}
A sleek serpent slithered gracefully from a shadowed pool.
Its scales shimmered with dangerous beauty.
“This is Anemone, the Venomshade Serpent.” Mira introduced.
Snape raised an eyebrow, “And her purpose?”
“Venom collection for potions and help with stabilize potions.” Mira said.
Snape studied the serpent, “…Efficient.”

{A/N: Finn the Jackalope}
A small creature hopped forward.
A rabbit-like body with delicate antlers.
“Finn the Jackalope.” Mira introduced.
Finn bowed politely.
“He can deliver potions and messages.”
McGonagall nodded approvingly, “Practical.”
{A/N: Quill the Scriptwing Pagefinder, Quorra the Scribe-Moth (yellow with purple tips, Whispen the Scribe-Moth (white fur)}
Three delicate creatures fluttered down from above.
Quill the Scriptwing Pagefinder carried tiny glowing scrolls.
Whispen the Scribe-Moth hovered gently near Mira.
Quorra, another Scribe-Moth, glowed with intricate runes.
“These three can assist with knowledge and archives,” Mira explained, “Perfect for the library.”
Flitwick looked amazed, “Living librarians!”
{A/N: Milo (Silver gray) and Sage (yellow gold) the Kneazle Couple}
Two sleek kneazles padded forward.
“Milo and Sage.” Mira introduced, “They comfort homesick students.”
McGonagall smiled softly, “A wonderful idea.”

Three glowing creatures emerged gently.
Nerune the Lunar Nymfox
Astrea the Celestial Star-Wing Cat
Somnus the Dream Weaver Moth
“They can help with nightmares.” Mira stated.
The room fell quiet.
Even Snape seemed thoughtful.
{A/N: Virelai the Kitsune Queen and leader of the Moonshadow Grove Clan}
A group of elegant fox spirits approached.
At their head walked Virelai, Mira’s eldest kitsune.
“Virelai and the Moonshadow Grove Clan can help maintain magical wards.”
Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled, “Most impressive.”

{A/N: Sakari the Pastel Nymfox}
A pastel-colored fox padded forward shyly.
“This is Sakari, the Nymfox. She can comfort distressed students.” Mira introduced.
Sprout smiled warmly, “How sweet.”
{A/N: The Teacup dragons: Meridiam, Eventide, Nightfall and Daybreak}
Finally, four tiny dragons fluttered through the air.
Meridian.
Eventide.
Nightfall.
Daybreak.
They chirped playfully as they circled the professors.
Hooch laughed, “Oh, students will adore these.”
McGonagall finally spoke, “Miss Silverthorne… what inspired this plan?”
Mira hesitated.
Then she answered honestly.
“Newt Scamander.”
The professors exchanged glances.
Mira continued quietly, “He believed magical creatures deserved understanding.” Her voice softened, “I thought Hogwarts could be a place where students learn that too.”
Dumbledore smiled, “A noble inspiration.” He looked around at his staff, “Well?”
McGonagall nodded, “I support the idea.”
Flitwick clapped excitedly, “Absolutely!”
Sprout smiled warmly, “Without hesitation.”
Hagrid grinned, “Best thing ever!”
Even Snape muttered, “…Acceptable.”
Dumbledore turned to Mira, “Miss Silverthorne.” His eyes twinkled, “Hogwarts accepts your proposal.”
Draco grinned beside her.
And for the first time since arriving at Hogwarts, Mira realized something wonderful.
Her creatures didn’t just have a home.
They had a purpose.
And Hogwarts had just become even more magical.
