Jennifer soon reached Granny’s little cottage. She knocked on the door. Knock, knock! No answer. Now, Little Red Riding Hood was a nice, sweet‑tempered little girl, but she was a bit impatient. So she kicked the door open and yelled, “Granny! Where are you?”
“I’m here, my tasty, delicious little dinner!” said a throaty, scratchy voice.
“Huh?” Jennifer thought. “Well, that’s weird! Granny’s nickname for me is Jenny, not ‘tasty, delicious little dinner’!”
But she quickly pushed it out of her mind. Granny was lying on her bed, her covers pulled up to her chin.
“Oh, what big ears you have!” exclaimed Little Red Riding Hood.
“All the better to hear you with!” replied Granny.
“Oh, what big eyes you have!”
“All the better to see you with!”
“Oh, what a gigantic, round nose you have!”
“All the better to smell those delicious cookies with!”
“Oh, what a big mouth filled with sharp, spiky teeth you have!”
At that, Granny sprang in her bed, in her pink, white polka‑dotted nightgown (even though it was still day), and—
“All the better to eat you with!” cried Wolf.
