Chapter 2
An approach........
According to our informatics teacher, Mr Baysen, the person who fails the examination has to run five hundred metres around the university. Asael knows about this strange practice better than I do. And the best part is, I have a fever.
My rival, Rhysan, sat behind me, and Asael sat next to me. Rhysan and Asael are rivals, too. Now you may say a foe’s foe is a friend. But I don’t consider Asael my friend nor foe. He stands somewhat in the middle.
Rhysan and I are enemies for many reasons. The first is simple: on his birthday, he wore a white shirt which Ivy gave him as a gift, and I accidentally poured grape juice on it. I guess Ivy is his girlfriend after all. When I said sorry and tried to wipe it off, I accidentally spilled more. He just neglected me and went away. It was a cold day since his shirt was both stained and wet, and he got a cold. I still remember him shivering in that cold. I offered him my jacket, but he refused. Probably cause he has someone else to give him one. And that someone else didn’t even give him one. I felt like she was using him.98Please respect copyright.PENANAlN9rlyMTeB
Second reason, during the Annual Sports meet, he got first prize, and I was supposed to put lime powder as lines in the ground, and I sneezed cause I had an allergy to the powder, thus all the powder got on his face, and when they took the photo, he looked like some yeti with a clean shave. My friend and I had the freaking audacity to laugh at his picture when it came on the notice board as achievements.98Please respect copyright.PENANAjixxrq8qxb
And the final reason on my birthday, which I had already decided that I wouldn’t celebrate much, my friends prepared a cake for me. While the cake was arriving, Rhysan hit me, and my face fell on the cake, and he just left. That’s it. Not even an apology, and he left in a hurry. Oh, so that I could catch him. Bastard. Well, all those happened in the first year of university, and this is the third. We haven’t talked since that.98Please respect copyright.PENANAiz9dQ3U6sg

Now, come back to the exam hall. The exam now begins, and I have no choice but to exchange papers with Asael. Mr Baysen corrected the tests at the spot itself, and I got zero, just zero. After the exam was over, Mr Baysen called me and scolded me in the exam hall. “Viella Siro Scarlett run five hundred metres around the university. “But, sir, Asael exchanged sheets with her, and she has a fever,” said Leah. “That’s her problem, not mine,” said Mr Baysen in a rude way. “Sir, she was forced-
“Sir, she was forced to do it,” interrupted Rhysan. “What are you doing here?” I said. “This is none of your business, Rhysan Cassius Eryx,” said Leah. “Sir, she was forced into doing this by Asael. So if you wanna punish someone, punish him, not her. “It’s Viella’s problem, not theirs. Stop wasting my time.” “But, sir- Rhysan interrupted. “If you are that concerned about her, then you run instead of her, but I’ll reduce your marks if you do so”.
Mr Baysen left after saying that. Rhysan went out of the hall and started his five-hundred-metre marathon. I was surprised. “Why is Rhysan running for me?” Leah is astonished again. “Is there something going on between you two? And you didn’t fucking tell me?” “No beach, what’s supposed to go between us?” “Then why the fuck is he running for you? Has he lost all his screws?” I felt Rhysan didn’t deserve this. Asael left the hall as soon as the test finished. He doesn’t know about the Asael thing either. I went up to Rhysan and asked, “Why are you running for me? Is it cuz of the fever thing? Well, I don’t have that fever- “Did I ask you? Why do you care?” Rhysan interrupted me. This is the first time he has ever talked to me. Hearing his voice for the first time gave me butterflies in my stomach. I don’t like him like that, but I don’t know why I get that feeling. He sped up, leaving me behind like, how the heck do I catch up with him in my Louboutins?
After his five-hundred metre marathon, Mr Baysen called Rhysan over to his office. “Why did you run for her?” “Sir, she has a fever-”. “I saw you fell on the ground yesterday and you ran with that leg.” “Yeah either I should run or she should. I felt making a sick person run is too cruel so I run despite of my condition.” “You are sick too and do you know before coming to you Viella came to me and apologise to me saying that she’ll run instead of you and I can make reduce her marks instead of yours. I pointed out where you were running and said. Why does he have no regrets running for you? It’s not even his mistake. “When I asked Viella to run, it was just to ensure equality between the students. I first gave this kinda punishment because I found students were purposefully exchanging sheets and bits, which is why I introduced this punishment. However, I knew Viella wouldn’t do such a thing. Hence, I wanted her to meet me in my office to fully discuss this matter with her. But you and Leah interrupted, hence I had no choice but to leave it to you. I knew Viella would come. I expected you as well, but you started running on the ground. You never received any kind of punishment, and you always avoid them. I was surprised you took such a risk for her. I wanted to see how far you would go. Well, you earned my respect Rhysan and I’ll give you and Viella full marks as internals and for this text I won’t detect any marks unnecessarily and how are you feeling, you can take the infirmary.” “I just had minor injuries they are not that bad.” said Rhysan. “ Thank you sir I now may take my leave.”
Rhysan left Mr Baysen’s office and went straight to the lecture room.
I saw Rhysan coming, and I went up to him. “Sorry that I gave you trouble once again. I’ll repay you-”. “If you really wanna repay me, please don’t disturb me again”. Said Rhysan. I went, and Leah was listening to all of these and said, “He’s so rude, he doesn’t deserve that kind of sympathy”. “He’s nice and kind”. I replied, “Huh, what did you just say?” “Nothing, it’s time for the lecture,” I said.

“Dang, gurl, he went through a lot for you. And he is Your Enemy. I bet he likes you.” “Excuse me, what the actual flippity flip?” I replied to Leah. “Well, she’s kinda right though,” said Giselle. As we walked outside the campus, I saw our bus arriving. I grabbed Giselle’s hand, and we both said Goodbye to Leah. Thank god the driver saw us, or else we would have missed the bus.

“So what do you think of Rhysan?” “Huh, what do you mean?” I replied to Giselle after getting in and occupying a seat. “I know you understood well what my question means.” “I need an answer right now, my stop is almost near,” said Giselle. “Next stop is Hileah,” said the automatic voice on the bus. And I said, “Imma give you an answer tomorrow”. “I guess I won’t be sleeping tonight,” said Giselle sarcastically. “Enjoy the night,” I laughed. As Giselle got off and I waved at her, the question she asked left me without an answer. After reaching home, mom asked, “How was the test?” “Pretty good, I did well,” I replied. “Then why do you look upset?” Mom asked. “It’s just that I can’t get to know Mr Baysen well. He may cut marks for minor reasons”. I replied. To be honest, I lied. I was upset cuz I couldn’t give myself an answer to Giselle’s question. “Well, is the cooker fixed?” “They say I’ll have to buy a new one,” replied Mom. “So I guess I’ll be getting money for canteen till we buy a new cooker, right?” “Yes. I bet you are happy about that”. “Obviously, is that even a question, Mom?” And that night, I didn’t sleep well either.
Not because of the cooker case but cause of the “Rhysan question”.
