We come to a quick stop, and I, being the person I am, look up to see where we are.
“Now, I’ll explain the rest once you've met the others, and although this shouldn’t be a problem, there should be NO fighting at all!” Raj states. There was an awkward quiet, as we had never heard him yell. All of a sudden, someone yells, breaking our silence.
“Hey there!” We all lookedover to see who was yelling. It was a girl who had dark skin and black hair. She was wearing blue jorts, a purple button-down shirt, and purple glasses.
“Oh, perfect timing, Evalyn!” Raj says, “Why don’t you take Kai and Isha to their new rooms, help them get situated, and have them meet the others.” Kai follows Evalyn to our new rooms, and I follow.
“So, when did you two meet?” Evalyn says, trying to start a conversation
“Excuse me? “ I say, startled, not sure what she’s trying to imply, and now even Kai looks startled.
“I said, when did you two meet each other, you and Kai? I mean, you're dating, right?” She says, starting to look concerned. I glance at Kai, disgusted and slightly flustered at the thought of dating him, though I try not to show the latter.
Kai scoffs. “We’re not dating. I mean, why would I date her? I’m so much better after all,” Kai says with absolutely no sense of regret.
Evalyn slaps her hand over her mouth and laughs a bit. “OMG, I'm so sorry, it's just that you both walk next to each other, and your outfits are matching, and you two keep looking at, um, each other.”
I instinctively look at Kai, which probably proves her point, but it’s only to see if he looks at me. He does. Our gazes meet and I immediately look at the wall that’s lined with paintings of the royal family.
“Oh, don’t worry about that, and we didn’t, well, I didn’t even realize we were matching each other,” I say, looking at what we were wearing.
“Okay, so, um, the rooms are on the left and right, and I saw one of them, and they’re giant,” Evalyn says, thankfully changing the subject.
“Hey, Bro, over here!” says a boy with black hair and eyes the color of blood, which is a bit weird except he has one of the warmest smiles I've seen. He quickly jogs over in one of the most confident and funny ways I've seen.
“Hey, I’m guessing you're our new team members.” He stops in front of us and holds out his hand to me. “ Well, nice to meet ya! I’m Raymond,” he says, his smile warmer than the sun.
“RAY! Bro, wait up! how. Are. You. So… Fast?” a boy with brown hair and blue eyes says between breaths. He grabs Raymond’s shoulder and bends over, gulping down breaths of air. Evalyn slaps the back of his head.
“Hey!” He yelps, wincing.
“Stand up and greet our new members!” Evalyn scolds him like he’s her brother.
“Wait, we have new members?” He looks up, his breaths steadying.
“Yes, we do, idiot.” She rolls her eyes and scoffs, crossing her arms.
“Oh.” He stands up, fixes his shirt, and looks right at me.
“Well, well, look who we have here. What must a princess be doing here?” He said, in the most flirty way possible, “Well, a princess needs a prince, so why don’t I be yours?” He stretches out his hand towards me, and before I could say anything, Kai slaps his hand away.
“She may be the most boring and stupid person in existence, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to date someone like you. “ Kai says sternly, showing a little more than just a hint of jealousy. “You two are more like twins.” He mumbles.
“Bro, I was just kidding. Anyways,” he says, looking back towards me. “I’m Tyler. “ I shake his hand, his grip firm and almost comforting.
“Um, is that everyone? Oh, right, I didn’t introduce myself well, I’m Isha; nice to meet you all!” I say excitedly. After all, I hadn't talked to almost anyone in a while, besides the prince, Audrey, and the seven words I didn’t even directly say to Kai.
The prince- I mean, Raj walks in with a few guards and some seamstresses, along with a girl. She has long black hair and forest green eyes, and although she's pretty, she walks shyly.
“Alright, this is the last member of your group, and once all of you meet each other, you are to go to your dorms. Tomorrow we’ll have the letters sent out to your families, and you’ll be given your coats and clothes, you’ll also be given your guards along with your schedules.” He paused briefly. “Now go get some rest, as tomorrow you’ll all be the members of the royal research team!” his voice booms across the room, then he suddenly turns around and leaves.
“Well that was abrupt.” I mumble.
The girl from before starts walking towards us. She has a shy walk and walks in on herself. Just as she’s a few feet away from us, Raymond yells,
“Iria!?!”
“Ray!?!” The girl says in pure excitement and starts running towards us at full speed. “OMG!, Ray, OMG, It’s you, Ray!!”
She jumps right into his arms, and they kiss. They kiss for so long that it feels as if time has stopped. After what feels like hours, they finally separate. Raymond carefully sets her down, and we all stare at them, thinking that we had just met her, and the first thing they did was kiss. Raymond can feel our gaze on them, so he decides to break the silence.
“Oh, um, this is Iria. She’s, um, my girlfriend who moved away a few years ago, and this is the first time we’ve seen each other in, like, three years,” Raymond says like it's the most common thing ever.
I stare at them awkwardly. “Um, w-why don’t we just head to our dorm rooms? After all, Raj said that tomorrow we’ll be pretty busy,” I say, trying to change the subject.
“OH! Um, so you guys, the dorms are m-mixed, so w-we’ve been assigned dorms except, there's um there-”
“GOD! Just spit it out, Mrs. S-s-stutterer,” Kai says mockingly. I glare daggers at him.
“Ok! um, so there's only one bed in each room, and each room has a boy and a girl,” Evalyn says bashfully.
