The four ran like crazy through the station's corridors with their dim and unwelcoming lights. Adrenaline began to rush through their bodies the moment they heard another sound coming from the structure: it was the emergency signal indicating the activation of the doors that isolate certain points with compromised structures.
“Why the hell is this happening?” Lena shouted.
“Looks like we're not alone!” Elijah watched as the door in front of him began to close. He had to get through in time.
“Go, go, go!” Jaxon practically threw Mai Lo forward, followed by Lena, who threw herself to the ground with him. Elijah pushed him forward at the last second, already calculating that he wouldn't make it through.
“Elijah!” Lena banged on the solid security door in desperation.
Elijah on the other side touched the communicator on his uniform and felt relieved when he realized it worked.
“Stay calm,” he announced. “These doors won't open anytime soon. We need to find out who closed them. There may be survivors.”
“How are we going to get him out of there?” Jaxon looked at Mai Lo, who had moved forward to a connection outlet near the door.
“Let's try to locate where we are and see how we can get Elijah to come to us,” she said calmly but firmly.
“Is there a way to do that?” Jaxon doubted it a little.
“Did you skip aerospace engineering class?” she tried to lighten the tension with a joke as she tried to activate the monitor and locate the group on the station floor plan.
“No, but in my classes they didn't throw us into such a bad place!”
A heavy sound and a long, organic hiss seemed to pierce the walls as if they were made of paper. The three froze for a few seconds.
“What was that?” Lena tapped the communicator. “Elijah! Are you there? Talk to us. Did you hear that too?”
“Guys, get out of there now. Get out now!” That was the only thing they heard from Elijah before the signal cut out and the three realized they had lost contact with their friend.
Now they were on their own until they found the missing member of the team.
