Sloane
"Where is she" I yelled pushing someone out of my way.
"You knew about this didn't you?" I ask finding Vera in the bonfire room. She returned a couple days ago. A sigh escape past her lips as she stood up allowing me to get closer. I grab hold of her collar pulling her closer doing my best to ignore the pain throughout my body especially my shoulder. "We were so close to getting her back. Didn't you want that?" I ask out of confusion. For some reason, my anger kept getting worse. We lost her.
I lost her. I had one job... Find the Crow. It feels like everything I am doing is getting slapped back at me.
"You should have let us know. We could have done something. Is this what you meant in your note? Where the hell have you've been? What have you've been doing out there?... Ugh..." I let go of her collar sliding down on my knees. Defeated. I keep losing people. It's getting longer.
Kylian runs up behind me placing both hands on my shoulders "She had nothing to do with it. Sorry Vera. She just woken up and telling her probably wasn't the best timing. Are you hurt?" he asked helping me up. Tears began to fall down my face. Vera picks up a book that she dropped when I held her and walks over to me.
"I know you are hurting and in pain but If I knew that was going to happen. I wouldn't have been able to stop it no matter what I have done, none of you could but know I would have tried" she explains standing front of me placing a hand on my cheek wiping away some of my tears. She continues looking at the both of us "I went the well of whispers to get this" she refers to the book in her hand.
"I've been preparing for a death, but I know for certain it is not Co. We will see her again. Now go back to your room and rest. I'll be there shortly to fill you in" she smiles walking past us into a hallway. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
"You heard her. Resting no causing trouble" Kylian sweep me into his arm taking back to the room. I look away feeling stupid. Can't believe I just did that to Vera. What's wrong with me? I kept my one good arm over his neck with the other in its sling. He starts chucking as he walks down the hall therefore, I ask, "what's funny?".
"You. You must feel stupid right about now. You heard her, The Crow is still alive" he states smiling. I should punch him but he's face is too nice.
"I do, shut up" I state removing my arm from around his neck flicking his chin as best as I could before putting my arm back. He pushes the door open with his foot entering the room sideways, "Put me in the chair, I've been in bed for days...Please..." I commend which he listens. He grabs the blanket off my bed placing it over my shoulders "Whatever you say your majesty" he mocks. He sits down next to me resting his arm over my shoulders.
"We should be looking for him" I declare looking over at Kylian. In a matter of seconds, his facial expression change. Sour in disbelief. He's giving me the 'and why should we do that’ look. I sat up a little bit trying to get comfortable before saying "He's being misunderstood. He wouldn't have killed his family not especially after fighting for them this hard" and placing my hand on his caressing it. Kylian rolls his eyes doing the same to my mine. Anytime someone mentions the name Maverick, he acts like this. Who can blame him? He doesn't really fancy him either. But I know that something is wrong.
"There is a term for that. It's called guilt. You heard the staff that knew him. They said that he killed everyone. He killed his father. His father. I'm not sure why you keep defending him. He's a killer, Sloane" he argues calmly tensing up now. He stops caressing my hand, "Minus the fact that he tried to kill you once before does not mean that he would do it again".
I sigh removing my hand from his "We've all killed someone which does not mean we are entirely good. I've gotten to know him; there is still a person in there. He's a person" I explain before he stood up. He wipes his face not looking at me. The fire silhouettes his body.
"Thats thing Sloane, you don't know him enough to say he needs saving. Maybe He doesn't want to be" he walks out of the room holding the door. I stood up watching him. He's mad.
We've always had our arguments but nothing like this. Walking over to him, I place my hand on his arm which he doesn't resist. "Where are you going" I ask hoping for him to look back at me. He doesn't.
"To stand outside and do my job. To guard you" and with that he was gone standing outside of my door not engaging with me any further. Vera walks up to the door glancing between us "I won't even ask..." she steps into the room shutting the door.
"This holds some information about the Oasis. It used to belong to a former knight that battle her long ago. It should help" she places the book on my nightstand looking around the room. She walks over and gives me a hug tightly. With my left arm, I wrap it around Vera trying to give her the same amount. We stayed like this for a minute before I pulled away "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have accused you like that. She is your friend too. Again, I am so sorry". Vera smiles shaking her head patting my shoulder, she says accepting my apology "I forgive you. We have matters to attend."
"For centuries, this woman has been taking from relics. In each description, her appears is the same"
"The same? What do you mean by same?" I ask picking up the book. Vera flips through the pages that had drawings of many things and finds a page with a picture of Oasis, but some parts of her face were smudge.
"For the past couple centuries, Oasis has not possessed a new body. It's been the same women, yet no one can remember her face. Apparently, she was disguised as a princess at one point other than that a low class. Someone that wouldn't be remembered by society"
Where are you, Oasis and who are you hiding behind?
