Maverick
When the door close, I began to laugh. Not sure why. What makes this funny? I brought my hand to my face sliding it down. There must be something wrong with me. I glance over at the piece of bird for a moment before taking the plate and consuming it. Surprisingly, good.
"You're not wrong, it would be a good time to get her, but Oasis wouldn't be happy" I state softly out loud making sure she cannot hear me.
When is she ever happy?
This couch isn't that bad for being run down and tarnish. The plate is sitting on to the floor.
"I'll handle it. Don't worry" I explain to my brother leaning back into the couch some more. Ever since the fire has been lit, the warmth of the room felt different and cannot satisfy my need to stay warm in this bloom winter. Yet I still carve the coldness creeping under the front door. To be back in a place of familiarity. Both of my arms make their way on the back of the couch about my size. I let out a deep exhale taking in as much warmth as I could.
Are you there?
...
Nothing. Maybe he went to sleep or something. Normally, he's talking my head off. Could it be possible he's enjoying the silence too? Outside of the window, the snow rushes down claiming the land around us. The fire drew my attention again allowing my mind to engulf the quietness. If you listen carefully, the structure of the house would breathe mixtures of air. How some of the wood would creek from the wind or maybe it's cold too.
"Stop! Stop! Let go of me!" a voice yells grasping my attention. My body bolts over to the door but I regain control opening the door leisurely. Through the crack of the door, the princess is tossing and turning in her sleep. Sweat covers her face causing some hair to stick to her forehead. A loud scream passes through her lips as she fought whatever she is seeing in her sleeping. Flashbacks of my first night with Oasis after my kingdom was eliminated. I would have terrible night terror and wake up to Oasis watching with no comfort. In the shadows with her eyes glowing purple. Alone. In a cold room that only made the nightmares worse.
"Please..." she speaks clutching onto to her cloak. Once I snap out of it, I found myself by the bed. 11Please respect copyright.PENANAXmnZURcu1h
"I did everything, I could..." She starts to mumble turning over. My hands reach out towards to her highness from the side of the bed and was about to lay down next to her. I stop. What am I doing? Her terroirs start to flare up again.
"I'm tried... please know that I tried..." she mutters scrumming around. Tears ran down her face. Fire in the fireplace in the room slowly died down. I shouldn't. You wouldn't...

I lay down next her bring her into my arms. She starts to wrestle around even more yelling "Go away... Stop... I did this for you! Let go of me..."
"Sloane, It's only me. Hey. Hey... it's alright" I grab hold of her right hand into mine caressing the bottom of her thumb knowing that helps. I glance around the room, over the in window a curtain with holes sway effortlessly from the crack in the window. Sloane gently dials down bring herself closer to my chest. Again? The burning sensation in my chest squeezing my heart. It only lasts for a couple seconds then is replace with a sense of ease. Looking down at her, I could see the discoloration of her face. I was about to wipe the sweat off her forehead, but she kept my other hand under lock in key. The bruise on my right hand is evident by her squeezing it tightly.
I've never been this close to her before, well in this way. With my other arm hostage under her, I couldn't move. Accepting it. A dark substance comes close to her face moving the hairs glued to it. The cloud in the sky clears up which allowed the moonlight to cast over us through the window. She turns over onto her back. The light is prominent by silhouetting her wide downturn nose. It makes known that her bottom lip is obviously larger than the top one but the difference with that is how her cupids bow sits slightly down further.
Maybe, she's not that pathetic. 11Please respect copyright.PENANA1pCBzxqpEx
If things were different, might like her?
A deep exhale left my body as laid there just staring at her. Hours went by now. It was admittedly dark outside to where the moon appeared as a dot. By being close in proximity as brought me to notice her tinier details. How a scotch breezes through her lips as she softly snores. The warmth of her skin. Her hand was no longer clutch to mine. A scar on left side of her jaw. With my hand, I carefully brush away some of her hair which I had to tuck a little bit more since it kept bouncing back into the front.
Thus, being caught up in my own observations, I didn't notice she was awake staring back at me with somnolent. If I am lucky in this moment, she will forget ever seeing me and mistake this for a dream. Our eye lock not letting each other go. My body would not move. If I stay still, she won't notice me. Once she went back to sleep, I climbed out of the bed trying not to alert her. I placed the large cloak further up to cover her.
"Thank you" she acknowledges keeping her eyelids shut before going back to sleep. Closing the door after my exit. I found myself back on the couch finding comfort by the fire once again.
