Memory: The Road I Walked
Some days ago, out of nowhere, I got a flashback of my life.
In the area where I live, there’s no transportation for 2 kilometers. When I was small, I used to go to school by a private school bus. But after class 10th, I decided to change schools. I took admission in a government school. My daily routine became walking 4 kilometers.
Honestly at that time , I was angry and frustrated about the walk sometimes . But most of time , the road was my favourite .
The path was covered with trees on both sides, with bushes and wide-open fields as far as the eye could see. Wherever you looked—there was greenery. The beauty of that road was amazing, and it still is. Sometimes, you'd see large areas filled with flowers, sometimes with fruits, sometimes just fresh green crops, and sometimes the yellowish shade of the field after the crops had been harvested. On one side, there’s a small pond where many little fishes live.
Sometimes I would throw small pebbles to create ripples on the pond water . Sometimes I would throw food for fishes and they would swarm at one side to grab food . Honestly it was kind of amusement in the path .
At that time, no houses were visible on that road. Now, houses are being built there.
There was bushes on both sides of road.
Well, in those bushes, snakes lived. Once, I saw a snake while I was on the school bus. The driver uncle stopped the bus to let it cross the road. It was big and black.
I asked him, “How did you know about the snake?”
Uncle smiled and said, “Well, the snake is just going back to its house. We should let it pass peacefully.”
On the trees, birds and monkeys lived. There were dogs too. I still remember how scared I used to be of the monkeys when I walked alone on that road—and how relieved I felt after passing their area. Sometimes, dogs would walk along with me until I reached my destination, and I used to talk to them.
I still remember walking on that road, watching the sunrise and sunset in full beauty, with no pollution. Even now, the beauty is the same, but there are small signs of aging—like a light fog of pollution, sometimes.
Have you ever seen a sunrise, sunset, or full moon while lying on the grass in a village? I’ve done it countless times. Even now, I still do.
What about walking on a beautiful road like the one I described?
Have you ever woken up to the sound of birds chirping?
Do you remember any memory like the one I just told you?
After living in city for some time , I realised the true beauty of village .
