A dialogue between Roukusuke and Raiga
When Roukusuke reached his destination, the Karabami Gold Mine, he went to a gravesite in hopes of finding his friend, who was buried alive in a coffin. However, he encounters some trouble as members of the Kurosuki family find him and capture him. As a result, tense music with a mix of drums and Japanese flute plays in the background as it is revealed that the Kurosuki family, including Karashi, surround Roukusuke. After some time, the leader of the family, Raiga, appears before Roukusuke. A dialogue takes place between them:
Raiga: Why, Roukusuke, after all we’ve done to establish a good relationship with you people, I thought we were all friends here.
Roukusuke: Oh, we are, I mean...
Raiga: It breaks my heart. If you think so little of us, then you’d leave us like that without a word. I try to remember the way things were, the good times-
Roukusuke: Please, sir, I’m sorry it won’t happen again.
Raiga: Ah, I have it; I know what we will do, we’ll arrange to have a funeral, yours
Roukusuke begs: Please forgive me; I don’t know what I was thinking. Oh, please, it won’t happen again, I promise, I promise!
Raiga: What’s wrong? Don’t you like funerals?
Roukusuke begs: Oh, please! Not mine; I’m not ready to die.
Raiga: I find funerals very comforting. People can be so cruel that they spend most of their living days being unkind to one another, betraying each other, envying each other, and hating each other. There’s nothing like a funeral to bring people together, to make them forget their differences, and to remember the good times. People are at their best at funerals.
Roukusuke is nervous and starts begging for his life: No, no, no, it can’t be; please let me go, please!
When Roukusuke attempts to escape, the members of the Kurosuki family hold him down on the ground.
Raiga is the villain in this episode. He is obsessed with funerals to the extent that he buries people alive. For instance, in the previous episode, he was talking to someone about intruders who were about to arrive at the gold mine. In Raiga’s words, he said, “What a pity; it seems we’ll be holding yet another funeral.” Raiga believes that people are at their best at funerals. It makes one wonder why he is obsessed with funerals. This may probably be revealed in the next episode.
Out to try and save Roukusuke, Naruto and the others ambush members of the Kurosuki family and save an old man. Rock Lee is the one who takes the initiative to ambush the Kurosuki family and save the old man. The other genin follows suit, and Naruto offers drinking water to the old man. However, the old man is petrified to the extent that he asks the genin to hit him and knock him to the ground before the family wakes up and punishes him. This is due to the old man’s belief that the Kurosuki family will think he was behind this ambush and bury him alive at the funeral. The Kurosuki family has instilled fear in the villagers, which shows they are the enemies in this episode, which makes one sympathetic to the villagers’ situation.
They soon hear the funeral bell and go and save Roukusuke. The old man explains the meaning behind the funeral bell. It is a form of communication where everyone is summoned to a funeral. He went on to say that if anyone from the village displeases Raiga, then the punishment for the guilty person is that he or she is buried alive. Moreover, the old man asserted that after the person is buried, Raiga gets very sad; he bows his head and weeps over the coffin as if he’s lost a dear friend. Therefore, the Genin are dealing with a nutcase who is obsessed with funerals. To make matters worse, they realise that the gong was for Roukusuke, who is about to be buried alive.
Tense music starts playing in the background as the family carries Roukusuke in a coffin to the grave. At a distance, Raiga is supposedly showing remorse, and he seems to be talking to a mysterious boy behind his back. It makes one wonder who he is to Raiga. This will be revealed after some episodes.
Meanwhile, when the Genin reach the gravesite, they hide, waiting for the perfect chance to save Roukusuke. Neji uses his Byakugan to assess if he’s alive, and when they find out that he is alive, they come up with a plan. For instance, Neji said that they would draw the guards away and get him out of the coffin. Afterwards, the genin ambushes the family while Karashi runs away to hide. They defeated the family easily using taijutsu, while Naruto used Shadow Clone Jutsu: Uzumaki Barrage. The genin had the upper hand and managed to save Roukusuke from being buried alive.
However, Rock Lee meets an old friend among the group, and Lee must now convince Karashi to return to his old way of life. While Naruto, Neji, and Tenten defeated some members of the family, Rock Lee charged forward to defeat the last member of the Kurosuki family. However, before Lee can hit him, he realises that it’s Karashi. After realising that it was Karashi, Rock Lee wonders why Karashi joined the family. In response, Karashi said, “Their leader is a great man. He took the entire gold mine back from those evil men, and he liberated this whole village.” Karashi is delusional, as it seems he doesn’t realise the damage Raiga has caused to the village. He is a dictator, as it is evident that if anyone displeases Raiga, they get buried alive. In other words, Raiga has not liberated the village; he has instilled fear among the villagers. Afterwards, tense music starts playing in the background as a dialogue between Rock Lee and Karashi takes place.

The dialogue between Rock Lee and Karashi
Rock Lee: Karashi, it was more than just a delicious curry you used to make; it saved my life. You have a gift; you would give that up to join these people who do not even care about human life. How can you?!
Karashi: Hmph, what did I ever get for sweating over that stupid pot all day? By joining the Kurosuki, I became part of something bigger and more powerful than fear. I’m important now, not some nobody stuck in the kitchen of a stinky little curry shop.
Naruto (angry): I have had it with this guy; he’s never going to listen to reason!
Before Naruto could hit Karashi, Rock Lee hit him instead.
Naruto: Huh?
Rock Lee: Karashi, not only did you bring me back from the brink of death with your curry, but you taught me a lesson I’ve never forgotten. You taught me that I could accomplish great things if I tried hard enough; that was your gift. You say you want to be more powerful and respected; you were a better man then.
Thereafter, Karashi remembers when he was making curry to help Lee wake up. This almost makes Karashi want to tear up, as Rock Lee says:
Rock Lee: Turn back, Karashi; you must turn away from this path you’ve taken. Be the man you once were.
Karashi kneels on the ground as he says, You’re right, I’ve been a fool; forgive me.
Naruto: Good. Glad to have you back on board.
From the dialogue, Rock Lee manages to convince Karashi to go back to his old life by reminding him that he has a gift. He reminds Karashi that he was a better man doing something good compared to what he was doing, contributing to the slavery of the villagers.
Rock Lee serves as an important character in this episode, as he is the only one who manages to convince Karashi to go back to his life. It means that Sanshō. Karashi’s grandmother will be thrilled when Karashi comes back to the curry shop.
Their time together is cut short as Raiga watches from the sidelines. Naruto and his team pursue Raiga into a thick fog and find that Raiga can conceal himself from even the Byakugan. Tense music starts to play in the background as there is a threatening atmosphere surrounding them. Neji realises that someone is watching from the sidelines, and he is confronted with evil red eyes. He is shocked as he says, “What is this feeling, this sudden sense of danger?” The Genin are concerned about Neji, and Naruto asks him what’s wrong. Neji then tells them that they are being watched by someone who is at the top of the cliff. Neji believes that it’s Raiga, so the team decides to go there. While they leave, Karashi stays behind and looks after Roukusuke.
When the genin arrive at the cliff, they are surrounded by an impenetrable mist. It is revealed that Raiga used Ninja Art: Hidden Mist Jutsu. After realising the jutsu, Rock Lee opens a book that explains the jutsu. The book asserts that “The Hidden Mist Jutsu is the trademark of the Mist Village Ninja.” Therefore, it means that Might Guy was right about Raiga being part of the Seven Ninja Swordsman of the Mist. Since they are surrounded by mist and can’t see anything, Neji uses his Byakugan to find Raiga. However, it doesn’t work, as Raiga can conceal himself from even the Byakugan. While the Genin are stuck inside the mist, Raiga is watching from a distance. He also has a conversation with a boy who is behind his back, whose name is Ranmaru. A dialogue takes place between the two of them.

The dialogue between Raiga and Ranmaru
Raiga: Well, Ranmaru, what do you think?
Ranmaru: It’s amazing; for the power of eyes to see the chakra network, he must possess the kekkei genkai
Raiga: Do you mean he can see us?
Ranmaru: No, don’t worry; my powers are still greater than his, so what will you do?
Raiga: I carry the burden of all the hopes and fears of everybody who works at the Kadabami Gold Mine. The people depend on me to keep the village safe from intruders.
Ranmaru: Will you arrange a funeral?
Raiga: For them, they are strangers to me; a funeral would serve no happy memories. No, I’ll simply kill them.
Afterwards, Raiga uses Ninja Art: Lightning Fang. He shoots the lightning into the sky. In the process, dark clouds form in the sky, and then afterwards, he commands the lightning to strike the Genin down. The lightning strikes the genin, and then there’s an explosion.
Raiga: How was that, Ranmaru?
Ranmaru: Wonderful Raiga
Raiga laughs wickedly.
Did the Genin survive the explosion? We are left in suspense until the next episode.
The lesson from this episode can be derived from Rock Lee’s statement. For instance, he said, “If you put your heart and soul into something, anything can happen; you can change the world.” When one puts their heart and soul into something, especially achieving their goals, anything can happen.
