Analysis
The following analysis will mainly focus on Hinata’s relentlessness in becoming a unique Shinobi. It will also examine Shino's strategic approach and Naruto's sense of humour towards the end of the episode.
In this episode, Naruto, Kiba, and Shino are wrapped up in beeswax due to Shino tossing a kunai at the giant Queen Bee summoned by one of the members of the Kamizuru clan. This angered the bug; hence, she trapped Shino’s team with her beeswax. As a result, the genin offers Bikochu in exchange for Hinata. The Kamizuru bug users agreed since they were pressed for time and needed to find the secret book, so they agreed. Afterwards, they lead the genin to the waterfall but eventually realise that Hinata is not there and assume that the current might have swept her toward the waterfall, hence causing her death. Naruto is so angry that he wants to punish them. Since Hinata is not there, Shino said the deal is off.
However, the Kamizuru bug users said something else. Due to the hostile history between the Aburame Clan and the Kamizuru Clan, they decided to plan to kill the Leaf shinobi, as it would serve to get their revenge. Consequently, they offered a new deal. Either the Genin tells them the whereabouts of the Bikochu, or they die. If they talk, they might consider sparing their lives. Therefore, it’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t, so Shino accepts defeat, and when he was about to tell them the whereabouts of the Bikochu, Naruto dared him not to say to them. Naruto gets angry to the extent that his eyes turn red, and when one of them wants to kill Naruto, a kunai that is wrapped up in a paper bomb lands where the enemies are standing. It explodes, and then afterwards, Hinata reveals herself. Who knows what would have happened if Hinata hadn’t arrived? Perhaps Naruto would have killed the enemies since the nine-tailed fox was starting to reveal itself, as was evident when Naruto had red eyes.

Hinata’s relentlessness in becoming a unique shinobi
Hinata’s companions are captured by the Kamizuru Clan, who attempt to search for the Bikochu. Hinata successfully escapes and destroys all the rival bug users’ insects with her new technique and forces them away, saving her companions. Tense music starts to play in the background as we are shown how Hinata escaped. When she was swept down by the waterfall, she came across a rock. Therefore, she used a rock to break the cocoon, and then she held on to the rock before she could be swept down the waterfall. Her relentlessness paid off as she said to herself that she wouldn’t give up.
Furthermore, her new technique shows the extent of her relentlessness in becoming a unique Shinobi. As she arrived on the scene, the Kamizuru bug users used different kinds of jutsus that involved a lot of bees going after Hinata. Before she started to use her new technique, she said in her mind, “Naruto, Naruto, watch me.” This shows that Naruto is one of the reasons why she has changed from feeling like a burden to being a fine shinobi. She was inspired by Naruto’s determination not to give up no matter what situation he faced; hence why she trained and came up with this technique known as Protective 8 Trigrams: 64 Palms. Afterwards, uplifting music with a mix of a Japanese flute, electric guitar, drums, Japanese chants, and Japanese guitar plays in the background as her jutsu starts killing all the bees one by one. As a result, a dialogue takes place between Naruto and Shino, expressing admiration for Hinata’s new jutsu. The dialogue begins like this:
Naruto: No freaking way, that jutsu, Hinata can do that?
Shino: The Hinata that you know is long gone.
Naruto: What are you talking about?
Shino: It’s been a while since the Chunin exam, and you have learned many new jutsus since then. While you had time, Hinata has been developing as well. She has been training especially hard.
As is evident in the dialogue, Hinata has been training hard to become a fine shinobi. She even asked Shino for help with training. Moreover, Shino went on to say, “Hinata was so concerned about her purpose as a ninja; she wanted to be able to offer something unique.” Henceforth, she was training hard with Kiba and Shino, even if it meant getting hurt in the process. When they would express their concern about hurting her, Hinata would say, “No, don’t go easy on me. If you want to help me get better at this, then come at me full force.” Due to her drive to improve her skills, she relentlessly persevered as she mastered the new technique. To support this point, Shino said, “After months of harsh training, Hinata discovered her style and her special jutsu. What you’re seeing is the result of that training.”
After saying this, Shino manages to get out of the beeswax. Angering the queen bee and getting caught in that wax were all part of his plan. With his chakra depleted in his weakened state, it was the only thing he could do to survive and protect himself. While they were wrapped up in the beeswax, he was directing his bugs to remove the wax. It turns out this wax is quite weak.
Therefore, Naruto and Kiba also managed to get out of the wax. There is an element of hope throughout the episode, as not only does Hinata master her new technique, but also Shino, Kiba, and Naruto get out of the wax. Therefore, Shino has proven to be a strategist who always thinks about his plans and assesses the outcome of the situation.
Shino further explains Hinata’s new technique to Naruto. Shino said, “Because of her hard training, Hinata’s chakra control has improved dramatically, and you just saw the jutsu she’s created and perfected, ‘Protective 8 Tigrams: 64 Palms.’” Hinata took her superior flexibility and combined it with fine-tuned chakra control, defending against attacks from all directions at once. It’s the ultimate defence jutsu, but it’s different from Neji’s technique; it’s Hinata’s jutsu. She pushed herself hard, and it finally paid off for her. Through it all, she wanted to win the respect of her father, the respect of her fellow Shinobi, and especially the respect of you, Naruto.” Hinata is amazing as she has developed her jutsu. It’s the ultimate defence jutsu that is completely different from Neji’s technique. In this case, she won the respect of her fellow shinobi, including Team 8 and Naruto, and eventually, she won the respect of her father. She is no longer a burden; she is a fine shinobi who not only discovered a new defence jutsu but also created her own jutsu. She has found something unique. This episode was significant in showing the change in Hinata’s character. She is a dynamic character who has grown into a fine shinobi.
After realising the genin got out of the beeswax, one of the members of the Kamizuru bug users summoned the giant queen bee to attack them. The bee ends up hitting Hinata with her wax. However, when the bee was coming after Hinata, Hinata formed a chakra barrier that pushed the bee away, and Hinata managed to defeat it. Afterwards, Hinata passed out, and before she fell to the ground, Naruto caught her. She won the approval of Naruto, as is evident in his words, “You’re amazing! That was an awesome jutsu; you did it, and you saved us.” Indeed, Hinata has become strong enough to tackle sticky situations. Therefore, her relentlessness in becoming a unique Shinobi is complete.
While trying to retrieve Sasuke’s forehead protector, Naruto accidentally farts on the Bikochu, causing it to memorise his scent instead of Sasuke’s. While Hinata was captured, Shino, Kiba, and Naruto hid the Bikochu in a cage and hid it in a tree. Moreover, since the Kamizuru bug users were using their bees to locate the Bikochu, the Genin used an insect repellent, hence why the bees could not locate the Bikochu. One of the Kamizuru bug users came and summoned her giant queen bee to attack them. However, Naruto stopped her and the bee using his Rasengan. While defeating her, Naruto dropped Sasuke’s headband, so while he was bending over to get it, he accidentally farted on the Bikochu, causing it to memorise his scent instead of Sasuke’s. Therefore, their hope of finding Sasuke is unlikely.
When Sakura found out about the mission’s failure, she was angry. At Hidden Leaf Village, she is chasing Naruto, and even though Naruto is apologising, she is not having it. To hide from Sakura, Naruto disguised himself as a woman; however, the Bikochu exposed him by landing on his back. Then the cycle of Sakura chasing Naruto continues; hence, there was a bit of humour in this episode.
Although the mission fails to find a way to locate Sasuke, Hinata appears more confident, and her father seems to respect her more. Hinata finds hope in training harder to continue harnessing her skills as a shinobi. She is focused on improving herself, leading her father to respect her more. Neji also seems to see Hinata’s strength. The episode ended on a positive note for Hinata, as she has changed from being a burden to being a unique shinobi with her jutsu, Protective 8 tigrams: 64 Palms.
The lesson from this episode is that when you work hard on something, you’re bound to achieve results, just like Hinata, who trained harder until she mastered her jutsu, Protective 8 trigrams: 64 Palms.
