The episode serves as a continuation of the previous episode. Due to Naruto’s anger and frustration, he unleashed the nine-tailed chakra. As a result, Sasuke said, “That’s Naruto? What is this power, and what is that red chakra? Is he some kind of monster?” Sasuke is perplexed and overwhelmed by Naruto’s newfound power. Moreover, as the episode proceeded, Naruto said that he wouldn’t let the likes of Orochimaru get hold of Sasuke. He went on further to say that if Sasuke won’t listen to reason, then he will break every bone in his body. The lengths Naruto would go to to get his friend back make one wonder why he would do that after Sasuke clearly stated he had no desire to return to Hidden Leaf Village.

The bond between Naruto and Sasuke
When Sasuke is overwhelmed with Naruto’s newfound power, he begins to yell at Naruto about not knowing how it feels to lose a family. Sasuke said, “Just shut up for once. What the heck do you know about it? It’s not like you ever had a family in the first place. You were on your own from the beginning! What makes you think you know anything about it, huh? I’m suffering now because I had those ties. How on earth could you possibly understand what it feels like to lose all that?” Sad music plays in the background as we are shown a picture of Sasuke’s family. It makes one sympathetic because Sasuke is only behaving like this because he lost his family. To make matters worse, Itachi is the reason for this since he killed not only the family but the whole Uchiha clan. Sasuke continues to harbour resentment towards Itachi, and he will do whatever it takes to achieve power, even at the cost of killing his friend, Naruto.
Naruto responds to Sasuke, saying, “It’s true; I have no idea what it’s like to have parents or a brother, but whenever I am with Iruka sensei, I wonder if that’s how it feels to have a father. And when I’m with you, I wonder if this is what it feels like to have a brother.” Naruto highlights the people who are important in his life, which are Iruka sensei and Sasuke Uchiha. Iruka sensei is one of the first people to acknowledge Naruto, especially at the beginning of season 1. To add on, we are shown a glimpse of Naruto’s memory where Iruka sensei and he are eating at Ramen Ichiraku, hanging out like they are close friends. As Naruto mentioned, he sees Iruka sensei as a father figure since he never had a relationship with his parents. Therefore, Naruto’s relationship with Iruka sensei is that of a father and a son.
Naruto’s relationship with Sasuke, on the other hand, was rocky from the start. As we are shown a glimpse of Naruto’s memories, they never get along. For example, Naruto used to call Sasuke a moron, while Sasuke, on the other hand, would call Naruto a loser. Eventually, they do end up getting along, as Sasuke has started acknowledging Naruto as a ninja. Their relationship is indeed like a relationship with siblings. Siblings may disagree here and there, but they will always get along in the end. To further support this point, Sasuke said, “Why Naruto? Why would you go so far for me?” and Naruto responded, saying, “Because this is the first time I have ever had a bond like this. That’s why I’ll do anything I can to stop you.” As the episode progresses, we are shown a scene where Naruto and Sasuke are smiling at each other when they were kids. Therefore, that is how there is a bond between Sasuke and Naruto. Both share one thing in common, which is being orphans. Yet despite all this, Sasuke said, “It’s too late, Naruto. It’s just too late. I can’t turn back.” He is still not willing to go back to the Hidden Leaf Village, which makes the audience feel sad.
Sasuke puts on his headband while proclaiming that Naruto will not be able to hit it. Naruto wonders why Sasuke is wearing the headband, and Sasuke responds and admits that Naruto is strong. He went on to say that Naruto knows the pain that solitude brings. It’s that very pain that makes them stronger. Sasuke then said that if he could break that bond, he would be able to achieve even greater strength. As the battle begins, Sasuke is confident that Naruto won’t leave a scratch on his forehead. Sasuke admits that there is indeed a bond between him and Naruto since they share the pain of solitude, hence showing the bond between Sasuke and Naruto.

When Sasuke manages to develop his Sharingan fully, he can read Naruto’s quick movements and counterattack, even when using Shadow Clones. Sasuke can see every step and every subtle shift in his momentum, and the image of Naruto’s next move comes vividly to him. If Sasuke has these eyes, he doesn’t need to expand his chakra. If he did, the curse mark would eat much of his chakra. With the power of the Sharingan, he can make up the image of Naruto’s every move before it happens and tie his attacks accordingly; hence, Sasuke has the upper hand when he is reading Naruto’s quick movements. It seems the only disadvantage of the curse mark is that it consumes a lot of chakra. Nonetheless, it proves to be beneficial for Sasuke since he slams Naruto from the sky to the ground, where Naruto is still beaten.

The Nine Tails and his power
As Naruto is still and beaten, we are shown a glimpse of the nine tails, specifically his eyes. While Naruto is still and beaten, the Nine-Tails says in his deep and raspy voice, “You runt; you are weak.” He laughs evilly, which is chilling and makes one not help but think something bad is about to happen. The Nine Tails went on to say, “You better be grateful to me and to your beloved fourth Hokage, who sealed me inside a twerp like you.” Afterwards, that’s when we see the Nine-Tails chakra covering his body. The scene is significant in the sense that the Nine Tails mentions the fourth Hokage, and that he is the one who sealed him inside Naruto. It makes one wonder who the Fourth Hokage is; this is revealed in the other anime, Naruto Shippuden. This is a great way to compel someone to ask questions.
Another way of showing the nine tails’ power is through Sasuke’s interaction with its chakra. Sasuke is perplexed and shocked when he says, “What was that? I can still read his movements, but his chakra—it’s almost like it has a mind of its own. Even my eyes can’t follow it. That red aura, that’s no ordinary chakra.” Sasuke realises the extent of the nine-tails chakra, which is how he got an epiphany about Itachi’s reason for wanting to take Naruto hostage. For instance, Sasuke remembers an interaction between Jiraiya and Itachi where Jiraiya said, “I know that he’s the one you’re after.” Itachi responds, “You’re right. Naruto is the prize the Akatsuki are after, and we will have him.” Therefore, that was when Sasuke realised that Naruto had special powers. It is important to note that Jiraiya and Itachi played a role in this episode to help Sasuke realise that Naruto has a special power. Moreover, Itachi revealed a bit about Akatsuki’s plans. However, it makes one wonder what they want to do if they succeed in having nine tails. It makes the audience even more curious, so they continue watching Naruto.
As the battle continues, we are shown the other scene, where Kakashi and his dog are in the woods searching for Naruto and Sasuke. Kakashi said, “Please just let me make it in time.” He knows that something bad is about to happen. This is supported by intense, dramatic music playing in the background to symbolise the destruction that is about to happen. To match the demon fox form that Naruto currently possesses, Sasuke advances his Cursed Mark powers to their final level to compensate. Things get real between Naruto and Sasuke, as they both have powerful chakra. What will happen next? All of this is revealed in the next episode; hence, the element of an anti-climax is shown in this episode.
The lesson from this episode is that sometimes one finds family in friends and people they care about, just like Naruto considers Iruka sensei as a father figure and Sasuke as a brother.
