While Naruto Uzumaki battles Sasuke Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake learns of Sasuke’s defection from Tsunade and is confronted by Sakura Haruno. After trying to calm Sakura down, Kakashi heads off to search for Sasuke and Naruto. The scene took place at Hidden Leaf Village. In the episode, Kakashi was speaking to Lady Tsunade in her office about Team Genin’s mission to find Sasuke. During the conversation, Lady Tsunade said something significant. She said she has a contingency plan in place that involves Gaara and his team. What is the contingency plan? The audience is curious to understand what Lady Tsunade’s plans are, so there is an element of suspense.
Moreover, to look for Sasuke, Kakashi used his summoning jutsu to summon the dogs. They scatter to look for his scent.

Kakashi’s character analysis
Sad or dramatic music starts to play in the background. Kakashi reminisces about the time when Sasuke used the Chidori while Naruto used the Rasengan on each other. Before any further damage could be inflicted on Sakura, Kakashi came in just in time to stop them. Therefore, one sees the importance of Kakashi as a character. He serves as a saviour, trying to protect everyone from getting hurt.
Moreover, the use of dialogue between Kakashi and Sasuke helps to understand Kakashi better as a character. At this moment, Kakashi tells Sasuke that he should forget about revenge. To understand what Kakashi meant, one should look at the dialogue:
Kakashi: Even if you attain it, all you will find is emptiness
Sasuke: Shut up! What makes you think you know anything about it? It’s easy for you to talk; you have no idea!
Kakashi: Easy; just try to calm down. So it looks like neither of us has lived a charmed life, have we? Still, are we not all that bad? At least you and I have been lucky enough to find new comrades to help fill the void.
Sasuke has a sullen look in his eyes as Kakashi proceeds to say:
Kakashi: Anyway, I do know how you feel. With the Chidori, you have been granted a gift of awesome power. It’s not a power to be used against your comrades or to seek vengeance. I think in your heart of hearts, you know what it is for
The dialogue presents Kakashi as being wise when he tells Sasuke that he should forget about revenge. This is shown when he says, “Even if you attain it, all you will find is emptiness.” The desire for revenge only brings destruction. It may satisfy one’s desires, but the pursuit of vengeance will leave one feeling empty.
Kakashi gives hints about his life while having a word with Sasuke. For instance, he said, “So it looks like neither of us has lived a charmed life exactly, have we? Still, are we not all that bad? At least you and I have been lucky enough to find new comrades to help fill the void.” It is no secret that Sasuke is an orphan who lost his parents and the Uchiha clan. Therefore, it is safe to assume that Kakashi, in a way, is an orphan who has lost both of his parents. In other words, Kakashi and Sasuke have both experienced loneliness.
Moreover, Kakashi said, “At least you and I have been lucky enough to find new comrades to help fill the void.” The same way Sasuke found comrades through Team 7 is the same way Kakashi, at one point, found comrades in the past. Sasuke, for instance, claims that Naruto is his best friend, which makes the audience wonder and curious to understand Kakashi’s past. Did Kakashi have a best friend? Who were his comrades? What happened to them? All of this is revealed in Naruto Shippuden.
Kakashi proves to understand Sasuke’s actions. For instance, he said to Sasuke, “Anyway, I do know how you feel. With the Chidori, you have been granted a gift of awesome power. It’s not a power to be used against your comrades or to seek vengeance. I think in your heart of hearts, you know what it is for.” The reason why Kakashi understands his feelings is because he has experienced what Sasuke is going through, e.g., loneliness. Moreover, Kakashi understands that in Sasuke’s heart, he wants to use the Chidori against the person who killed his parents and the Uchiha clan, Itachi Uchiha.
Back to the present, Kakashi said, “I was too naive; those two could end up killing each other.” It makes one wonder what will happen next.
Meanwhile, believing Naruto to be his closest friend, Sasuke prepares to kill him in hopes that Naruto’s death will be an acceptable price for his Sharingan to evolve into a Mangekyo Sharingan. To support this point, Sasuke said some words to Naruto. He said, “I know I said this already, but... Be honest with yourself; you’ve been waiting for this moment, too. Kakashi and Sakura aren’t here now. Nobody is going to stop us like the last time.” Moreover, he said, “This time we settle this once and for all. It will be the end of you.” It clearly shows that Sasuke is determined to get the Mangekyo Sharingan at the expense of losing his best friend, Naruto.
Naruto’s Rasengan and Sasuke’s Chidori clash, though neither is capable of overpowering the other. Sasuke remembers his training with Kakashi in terms of mastering the technique of the Chidori. Kakashi said that he is good for two bursts, hence that is his limit. If he dares to do it more than twice, it won’t work. In other words, if Sasuke tries to force a jutsu, not only will it not work, but the attempt can drain his chakra to absolute zero. In the worst-case scenario, he could die. Therefore, he can’t waste another blow. It will be pointless. All they will do is cancel each other out again, hence neither is capable of overpowering the other. Furthermore, that is why Sasuke activated his cursed seal. It was at this moment that Naruto realised that Sasuke wanted to kill him.
Activating his cursed seal to gain an advantage, Sasuke mercilessly beats Naruto, but his Chidori nearly hits Naruto’s heart. Sasuke uses the Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique and distracts him. At this moment, Naruto has brief flashbacks about how he was delighted to meet Sasuke and how he considered him his rival. To understand Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship, Naruto shares his brief flashbacks.

Similarities and differences between Sasuke and Naruto
Naruto said something significant in the episode. He said in his mind, “Sasuke, I always knew that you were alone. At first, when I realised there was someone else like me around, I was relieved and happy too. To tell the truth, I wanted to approach you right away, but I just couldn’t work up the nerve. You were always able to do everything, and everyone was always fawning over you (guitar music started to play in the background). You were so far ahead of me, and I didn’t want to admit it, so I started to see you as my rival. I didn’t want to lose to you, and with everyone calling me a loser, it just made things worse. Even when we became Squad 7, I never stopped feeling that way. I was stubborn, and I couldn’t express what I felt. The truth was, I just wanted to be like you. You were everything I aspired to.” So Naruto was happy that Sasuke acknowledged him during the Chunin exams when he said, “You are one of the ones I want to fight the most.” To support that Naruto was happy, he went on to say to Sasuke, “You have no idea how happy you made me that day. It was the first time you ever said anything acknowledging me.”
Naruto further went on to say in his mind, “I don’t need to come to blows to know each other’s thoughts anyway. Ever since that day, even though we never said, The truth is, you and I are friends,” When Naruto said, “You and I don’t need to come to blows to know each other’s thoughts anyway,” he was responding to Sasuke’s statement. Sasuke stated that if two ninjas are of high enough level, they can read each other’s minds by exchanging blows. In this case, he is referring to when the Rasengan and the Chidori clashed and sent them back flying.
Sad and dramatic music starts to play like an orchestra in the background as Sasuke says in his mind, “It’s not insignificant to me; there’s no question. You’re my closest friend.”
Naruto and Sasuke have both experienced loneliness. In Naruto’s case, he has lost his parents. To add to his misery, most of the people in the village treated him like an outcast because he had the Nine Tails inside of him. Sasuke, on the other hand, has lost his parents, and the whole Uchiha clan was killed by his brother, Itachi Uchiha.
Sasuke was able to do everything without putting in much effort. Naruto, on the other hand, had to work hard to achieve his goals. He only considered Sasuke his rival because he was too far ahead of him, and he didn’t want to admit it. He admired Sasuke so much to the extent that he was happy that Sasuke finally acknowledged him as a shinobi.
Naruto and Sasuke both consider each other friends because both of them share one thing in common, which is loneliness.
While Sasuke thinks the battle is to be won, the Nine-Tails’ chakra begins to envelop Naruto as his wounds are healed, and he resolves to beat Sasuke to a bloodied pulp if that is what it will take to bring him home. When the Nine-Tails chakra began to envelop Naruto, Naruto said something in his mind. He said, “But now, you’re seriously trying to take me out, and I don’t know if you meant what you said before or not. Maybe I was the only one who thought (the Japanese flute plays in the background) that we were friends. If that’s the case, then how stupid am I?” Naruto went on to say, “I just can’t bear the thought of seeing you taken away by someone like Orochimaru.” The music stops playing in the background as he starts tapping into the Nine-Tails’ chakra.

Details concerning the Nine Tails
It is important to note that the Nine Tails signify destruction and anger. After all, it is responsible for attempting to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village. Thereupon, the Nine-Tails chakra manages to envelop Naruto because Naruto is frustrated and angry. For instance, he can’t believe that Sasuke wants to kill him. He wonders if he was stupid enough to believe they were friends. Moreover, he is frustrated to the extent that he cannot bear the thought of Sasuke being taken away by someone like Orochimaru. If that happens, it means he risks losing Sasuke as his friend. As a result, Naruto has these negative feelings, and the Nine-Tails feeds on that negativity and takes advantage of Naruto’s feelings of frustration and anger. This then poses the question of whether Naruto wants to beat Sasuke to a bloodied pulp and if that is what it will take to bring him home. The audience is anxious and curious to know what will happen next; hence, there is an element of suspense until the next episode.
The lesson from this episode is that everyone has their struggles. For instance, Kakashi reveals hints from his past that he was an orphan, the same way Naruto and Sasuke are orphans. Yet each of them has a different approach to how to handle it.
