“Fakeout: Shikamaru’s Comeback!”
“Despite Tayuya’s efforts, Shikamaru has devised a plan to defeat her creatures. Using a flashbang to lengthen the shadows in the area, Shikamaru captures the creatures and prepares to turn them against Tayuya. To prevent this, Tayuya calls off the creatures, making them disperse. Despite this, Tayuya is captured by Shikamaru’s shadow, forcing her to advance her seal to its second state to escape. With Tayuya now strong enough to overpower his shadow, Shikamaru decides instead to use his shadow for attack and attempts to use his shadow to strangle her.”

Analysis
This episode mainly focuses on the battle between Shikamaru and Tayuya; hence, it is a continuation of the previous episode. Moreover, as Shikamaru has noted, Tayuya controls the creatures with her flute, so he is trying to think of a plan to counteract it. In other words, Shikamaru will devise a plan to defeat Tayuya.
Meanwhile, Naruto activates his Shadow Clones to fight against Kimimaru. Before they start to fight, there is a moment of silence, which emphasises a dramatic effect. For instance, Kimimaru prepares his attack, known as the Camellia Dance, where he slices Naruto’s shuriken attacks using his upper arm bone, which is modified into a sword. It is harder than steel; hence, that’s how he managed to destroy Naruto’s Shadow Clones.
What makes this battle interesting is that there is black smoke in Sasuke’s coffin. It makes one ask questions about what is happening to Sasuke, which keeps the episode interesting.
Despite Tayuya’s efforts, Shikamaru has devised a plan to defeat her creatures. Back in the forest with Tayuya and Shikamaru, she activates a dangerous jutsu: the Ninth Passage: Demon Revolution, which causes many-mouthed, worm-like spirits made of chakra to emerge from the mouths of the creatures. The chakra of the spirits is almost entirely spiritual energy, causing them to seek out physical energy to achieve balance (Narutopedia Website). Therefore, it explains why one of the ghosts took a bite of Shikamaru’s physical energy, and Shikamaru realised that she is a ninja who uses a special chakra like him. To support this, this is shown when he says, “She must be using some obscure ninjutsu.” Therefore, he realises that he should not focus on the ghosts but rather on Tayuya, who is controlling them, so he devises a plan to defeat her creatures.
Using a flashbang to lengthen the shadows in the area, Shikamaru captures the creatures and prepares to turn them against Tayuya. To prevent this, Tayuya calls off the creatures, making them disperse. He used the light bomb to lengthen the shadows in the area so that he could use the Shadow Possession Jutsu on the creatures. How did he know her moves? Well, he was memorising her finger positions. He analysed and memorised her movements while she was busy looking for him. Therefore, it shows that Shikamaru is very articulate and observant; hence, it explains why he was chosen as the leader of his team. He has good analytical skills and always manages to get away from a messy situation.
Despite this, Tayuya is captured by Shikamaru’s shadow, forcing her to advance her seal to its second state to escape. With Tayuya now strong enough to overpower his shadow, Shikamaru decides instead to use his shadow for attack and attempts to use his shadow to strangle her. Tayuya thought she used a genjutsu on Shikamaru that was meant to paralyse him, but it did not work because Shikamaru was pretending to be paralysed. Therefore, Tayuya picked up the kunai on the ground because she wanted to kill Shikamaru. In response, Shikamaru waited for the right time for Tayuya to come close so that he could strangle her with his shadow. In other words, the closer he is to an opponent, the stronger the hold he has; hence, that’s how he managed to defeat Tayuya.
The episode was informative to show that Shikamaru did not only rely on his powers to defeat Tayuya. Instead, he used his analytical skills.
The lesson from this episode is that sometimes it is necessary to work hard to succeed. Through hard work, Naruto is living his dream of being a ninja. However, it is also important to work smart since Shikamaru was smart enough to defeat Tayuya. It explains why he was chosen as the leader of his team to save Sasuke Uchiha. Therefore, it is important to work hard and work smart at the same time.
