1. Kiba versus Sakon
Soon after the battle begins, Kiba and his dog, Akamaru, fall off a cliff with Sakon. There is not much to say about this encounter. The real battle between Kiba and Sakon will be revealed in the next episode.

2. Shikamaru versus Tayuya
Shikamaru engages Tayuya, while Naruto goes after Kimimaro, who is carrying Sasuke’s coffin. Shikamaru planned to convince Tayuya that he and Naruto were about to fight against her. Afterwards, the plan worked as Naruto went after Kimimaru, who was carrying Sasuke’s coffin. At that moment, Shikamaru once again proves to be significant in this mission because he has given Naruto a chance to go and save Sasuke. Therefore, Shikamaru is presented as having good leadership skills. Moreover, the real battle between Shikamaru and Tayuya will be revealed in the next episode.

3. Naruto versus Kimimaru
Their encounter plays a significant part in this episode.
Desperate to get Sasuke back, Naruto begins tapping into the demon fox’s chakra to engage Kimimaro. The audience gets a glimpse of what to expect in a battle between Naruto and Kimimaru. For instance, Naruto will likely use the Nine-Tails Chakra to save Sasuke. Therefore, it shows that Naruto values Sasuke as a best friend because he is willing to risk his life to save Sasuke. In other words, Naruto is presented as someone who cares about the people who matter to him; hence, he is a round character who seems like a real person who cares about his friends.
When Naruto finally caught up with Kimimaru, he demanded answers from Kimimaru to tell him why Orochimaru wanted Sasuke. As a result, intense piano music plays in the background as Kimimaru begins to explain. For instance, he said that Orochimaru had already acquired the immortality jutsu. However, a vast amount of time is required to obtain every jutsu and everything he wants from this world. Just because Orochimaru is immortal does not mean his body can maintain itself forever. So, before his flesh decays, a strong new body must be made to become a vessel for his soul. Therefore, that is why Orochimaru wants Sasuke Uchiha. Kimimaru’s explanation has given the audience a better understanding of Orochimaru’s true intentions toward Sasuke. He has no intention of giving Sasuke power but wants Sasuke’s body as his vessel. Therefore, Orochimaru is a true antagonist who is selfish and does not care about anyone but himself.
After learning about Orochimaru’s intentions with Sasuke, Naruto is angry as his nine-tailed chakra intensifies, which proves that Naruto will use the nine-tailed chakra to fight against Kimimaru.

4. Orochimaru originally wanted Kimimaru’s body.
Back at Orochimaru’s place, deep bass sounds play in the background. At their hideout, Kabuto and Orochimaru were talking about Kimimaru. In their conversation, Orochimaru said that he initially wanted Kimimaru’s body as his vessel because it was the body he wanted the most. For example, Orochimaru said that it was best suited for his spirit. However, due to Kimimaru’s illness, he could not use Kimimaru’s body as his vessel. Therefore, it means that if Kimimaru had not been sick, Orochimaru would not have wasted his time on Sasuke Uchiha. Therefore, the audience understands that Kimimaru plays an important part in developing the storyline. He helps one understand the lengths Orochimaru will go to just to get a vessel, which makes him evil.
Kabuto also said something intriguing. For instance, he said that if it weren’t for Kimimaru’s illness, the assassination of the third Hokage would have been much easier. As a result, this makes one think. If Kimimaru is sick, will he survive a fight with Naruto? What will happen? All of these questions compel one to watch the next episode to find out.
The lesson from this episode is that teamwork leads to better results. If it weren’t for each member sacrificing their life to fight the enemies, Naruto would not have caught up with Kimimaru.
