1. Shikamaru suggests that the team should wait until sunrise to attack.
Team Shikamaru was following the Sound Four from a distance in the dark. To catch the Sound Four by surprise, Shikamaru suggests the idea that they should keep their distance and wait until sunrise to attack. There are various reasons why Shikamaru said this. First, if Team Shikamaru attacks in the dark, the Sound Four would take a defensive position if they heard sounds. Second, Shikamaru cannot use his Shadow Possessing Jutsu because the moonlight is too dim.
If Neji were still around, he would have used his Byakugan to check on the Sound Four’s movements. In other words, Team Shikamaru would not need to wait until sunrise to ambush the Sound Four. Therefore, the audience understands that Shikamaru’s team has lost a valuable asset.

2. Orochimaru needs another body
Orochimaru, whose body was left useless after his failed invasion of Konoha, anxiously waits for Sasuke so that he can switch to Sasuke’s body. In this episode, there is moonlight in the forest, which symbolises the darkness of Orochimaru’s character. Moreover, there is gloomy, intense music in the background. At Orochimaru’s hideout, he is taking a shower when it is revealed that his arms are bleeding with blood due to Hiruzen Sarutobi’s Jutsu: Reaper Death Seal. To make matters worse, the Shinigami was ordered by the Third Hokage to cut off a piece of his soul. As a result, it effectively took away Orochimaru’s jutsu by robbing him of his ability to utilise his arms. Therefore, that is why Orochimaru is in pain to the extent that his voice sounds a bit different, which serves as a reminder about why Orochimaru cannot use his arms.
Although he puts it off for as long as he can, hoping that the Sound Four will arrive in time, his body brings him too much pain, and he is forced to switch to the body of one of his prisoners. Orochimaru endured the pain because he wanted Sasuke’s body. However, he was forced to switch to another body, which means that Team Shikamaru’s interference saved Sasuke’s life. Imagine if the Sound Four got to Orochimaru on time; it would mean the non-existence of Sasuke Uchiha. Hence, one appreciates how Team Shikamaru played a significant role in saving Sasuke’s life. Since Orochimaru switched to another body, he will have to wait a few years before he can change into Sasuke’s body. Therefore, this is a dramatic irony in the sense that we, as the audience, know that Orochimaru has switched to another body while the other characters are not aware of this.
Moreover, during this episode, Kabuto is also present because he is willing to offer his body to Orochimaru. Therefore, it shows his loyalty and respect for Orochimaru, which makes one question why he is so loyal to a manipulator. His reason for being loyal to Orochimaru is likely to be revealed in the other anime, Naruto Shippuden.
Elsewhere, the retrieval team catches up with the Sound Four and tries to get Sasuke back. In this episode, Team Shikamaru managed to get Sasuke. However, they do not know that an enemy is coming their way called Kimimaru.

3. A new character is introduced in this episode.
Who is Kimimaru? Kimimaru seems to be one of Orochimaru’s henchmen since he is also loyal to Orochimaru. For example, in the episode, he said that his purpose was to give Orochimaru his body. However, due to his injuries, he considered himself useless. Therefore, he decides to look for Sasuke at the cost of his life. What is Kimimaru’s story? This leaves the episode in suspense until the next episode.
The episode has proven to be interesting as it shows the antagonist, Orochimaru, who is a threat to the Hidden Leaf Village.
