After sensing Verin's energy go stationary, Thessa stealthily made her way to Verin's location. She was in a destroyed laboratory that was located in a desert.
Is she underground?
Thessa sped into the laboratory and found a crushed steel door that led further underground.
Oh! I was right!
The path led to a bunker that was filled with valuable minerals, but more importantly, there was a large chamber with a strange, golden solution that Verin floated in.
Thessa skillfully suppressed her energy as she went in for a closer observation. She determined that Verin was in a coma, completely unaware of her presence. However, Verin's power was rapidly increasing.
At this rate...you poor, troubled girl, Thessa looked at Verin with pity.
She turned and quickly made her way back to the surface. Now that Verin's rampage was over, she zipped around the world to help the humans out as much as she could. Without them seeing her, of course. She wanted to avoid the spotlight so that the humans wouldn't become reliant on her as they did with The Primordials.
Thessa kept herself moving fast enough to avoid her image being captured even by the satellites orbiting the planet. Faster than a blink of an eye, she freed trapped victims in various cities around the world, caught falling humans before they plunged to their deaths, placed fruit and food in conveniently placed locations near humans in need of it to try not to accrue suspicion, and even gently averted planes that were flying blind from the grid shutdown.
Thessa giggled as she knew things like that wouldn't simply be amounted to some miracle, but she doubted they'd immediately jump to the conclusion of there being someone out there helping them.
She had to admit that this was fun. This was the most exercise she'd had since her 2-year flight through space to get to Earth eons ago.
She flew high above Earth's satellites and hovered there, looking for the next place to help out in.
Don't worry, Earth. Your super-secret superhero is here to help, she thought while humorously posing with her fists on her hips before dashing back toward Earth.
Calci – Edge of Purgatory Capitol
Za'Fia looked at Eien, disgusted at his demand, but she was confident in her raw strength.
"What happened to me needing to leave?" she asked sardonically as she returned to her normal state.
"If we're making a wager, then I should get something out of it, shouldn't I?" Eien leered. "Besides, I told you, as my wife, you'd be protected."
He looked around and pointed at a suitable location for their challenge – an isolated, black boulder of hardened coal. He lifted the stone over his shoulder.
"Follow me," he said, taking off into the sky.
Eien led Za'Fia a ways away from the city until the city was on the horizon.
"No one should bother us here," he said, landing and then placing the boulder down with a thud.
"Smart. No one can see you get embarrassed here," Za'Fia said provokingly. She noticed his eyebrows knit as he sat and positioned himself for the arm wrestle.
"Waiting for you."
"Hmph," she grunted softly as she positioned herself across him. They locked grips with each other's right hands.
"Begin," Eien called out as each of them released a sudden burst of strength that cracked the hardened coal beneath their elbows.
Eien proved to be much stronger than Za'Fia in her normal state, easily tilting the balance heavily in his favor.
"I'm not stupid. This sorry excuse of strength isn't your best. Show me that power you had earlier. Before you lose without getting the chance to," he taunted cockily. "What was your kind's transformation called again? A hybrid form? Double your strength, quadruple it. It doesn't matter. The result will remain the same."
Za'Fia smirked.
"Quadruple? You need to brush up on your knowledge. Our transformations increase our strength tenfold," Za'Fia said as she reentered her true hybrid form and began to resist Eien's might.
Eien was visibly strained as he tried to push her hand back down, but from what she could tell, though close, Za'Fia had the edge in terms of raw strength.
"I'll give it to you," Za'Fia grunted, "you're stronger than I thought you'd be. Figured...you'd be...a wimp...without your special flames."
"You're stronger than I anticipated too," Eien grunted. "But as I said, if this is all you've got, the result...remains...the same."
Za'Fia noticed the power in Eien rising. Was he able to transform? Fotians could do that too?
Not happening, Za'Fia thought before she put every ounce of her strength into an abrupt, explosive release that completely obliterated the hardened coal, overpowered Eien, and forced him into a shallow hole his body created on the ground.
Za'Fia smiled facetiously.
"There, I win."
Eien cursed as he got up. He looked angry and disappointed as he rubbed his bruised arm. He was a lot sturdier than she gave him credit for, too.
"This is ridiculous. Even without flaring, I'm stronger than most pneumarians," he muttered.
"So am I," Za'Fia shrugged. "You're certainly strong, but I beat you and a deal's a deal. So, I need you to come with me," Za'Fia said, using the mark on her hand to open a rift before them.
Eien grunted in disapproval, causing her to glance at him.
"Don't tell me you're too sexist to keep your word even to a girl," she said, then realized the real issue before smiling mockingly. "Or is this a pride thing? Are you upset that I didn't let you transform? Why would I if it meant you'd get stronger and beat me? That'd be stupid."
"Shut the hell up," Eien snapped. "I know what I promised, and I'll honor it," he said begrudgingly, pushing past her to step into the rift.
"Good," she grinned, stepping in behind him.
Planet Nuuc
Trevor emerged from the rift on an unknown world. He immediately noticed something strange about the air but couldn't quite place what it was.
He stood at the bottom of a canyon in silence before thinking to check the net for any information about the planet.
According to plexus, Planet Nuuc was the third planet within a star system called the Neutral Zone.
The planet was home to a pacifistic species called nuuclanites. Its gravity was about equal to Earth's, but from what Trevor read, the air density there was 60% lower than Earth's, making it harder to breathe, but he managed just fine regardless. That was all that was mentioned. Even the most renowned news source, the Galactic Scoop, didn't have much about the goings-on of the planet.
There was no time for him to ponder why, though, because the ground rumbled as the drone of machinery could suddenly be heard from nearby, causing him to fly above the canyon only to see that a settlement in the distance was in the middle of what could only be described as an invasion.
