Seraphina landed heavily within the expansive walls of Fort Vigilance, the sheer force of her descent kicking up a cloud of dust. Almost immediately, a massive crowd of civilians from the protected universes gathered around the perimeter. They cheered wildly, their faces lighting up with relief and joy at the safe return of the Azure Queen.
But Seraphina didn't smile. Her expression remained dark and grim. The cheers of the crowd felt distant, drowned out by the horrific memory of what she had just experienced at the Tournament of Power. The betrayal of her brother, Polo, aligning himself with the very tyrants who wanted to erase their existence, burned in her mind hotter than any flame.
Queen Nia Kasumi walked out of the central command center to welcome her back. Her celestial aura was calm and soothing, but one look at Seraphina’s eyes told Nia everything she needed to know. The scout mages had already reported the disaster of the tournament.
"Sera," Nia said softly, gently guiding the fiery Queen away from the cheering crowds. "Come with me. Let's get you out of this noise."
Nia led Seraphina through the fortress corridors toward the newly built Rulers Quarters, a highly secure and heavily fortified sector designed specifically for the rulers of the 5 Universes and their second-in-commands.
As they reached the heavy metallic doors, Nia stopped and turned to face Seraphina. She placed a gentle, grounding hand on her shoulder.
"Sera, listen to me carefully," Nia warned, her voice dropping to a serious, measured whisper. "Before we go in there, I need you to promise me you are not going to explode."
Seraphina’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of heat radiating from her skin. "What are you talking about, Nia? What's in there?"
"Not what," Nia corrected calmly. "Who." She took a breath. "King Arion is behind these walls."
Seraphina’s aura instantly flared, the air in the hallway shimmering with a sudden, suffocating heat. "Are you insane?!" she hissed, her voice vibrating with fury. "You let that tyrant into Fort Vigilance?!"
"He has sided with us, Sera," Nia explained logically, refusing to back down from the heat. "He surrendered. He walked away from his empire and the Sentients. I didn't believe it either at first, but we were pulled into the white expanse. My brother...he spoke with Arion."
Seraphina froze, the flames licking at her fingertips stalling. "Lord Kaipo?"
"Yes," Nia nodded softly, pulling out the memory of the ancient parchment. "Kaipo left a message. He spared Arion and told me that the King has a vital role to play in the coming war against The Judge and the 6 Kingdoms. We have to trust my brother's judgment."
Seraphina was still extremely hesitant, her jaw clenched tight enough to crack bone. But the mere mention of Lord Kaipo—the man who had sacrificed everything for the universes—made her realize the gravity of the situation. She forced her aura to dim.
"Fine," Seraphina muttered bitterly. "Let's go."
Seraphina pushed the heavy doors open and stormed into the room. Inside, Commander Vex, the tactical leader of the successful Operation Exodus Dawn, sat at a large desk, quietly reviewing casualty reports and border defenses. Zeraxis Prime and Captain Solari Lyra were noticeably absent, busy elsewhere continuing to advance the base's defenses for the upcoming front.
And there, slouched over in a high-backed chair in the corner of the room, was King Arion, fast asleep.
Seraphina’s restraint snapped. Seeing the man who had caused so much suffering sleeping peacefully was too much to bear. She marched straight over to him. She held her fist up, and in a fraction of a second, she coated it entirely in the terrifying, demonic heat of her Flames of Eternal Damnation.
Without a single moment of hesitation, she punched Arion squarely in the chest.
CRAAACK!
The impact sounded like a bomb going off inside the room. The attack did severe, catastrophic damage, launching Arion backward out of his chair. His body slammed heavily onto the floor. Thick, black smoke poured from his mouth, his eyes squeezed shut in absolute, agonizing pain as the hellfire burned at his flesh.
"Seraphina!" Nia shouted, rushing forward in alarm. Commander Vex leaped out of his chair, his hand instinctively going to his weapon before he realized who had thrown the punch.
Seraphina stood over the fallen King, her fist still smoking, her voice dripping with absolute venom.
"That's one for making me look crazy for choosing you as the new ruler of the Azure Universe," Seraphina spat. "You served as a disgrace and a betrayal to the name my mother and father have built. Joining our side will NOT forgive what you've done. Only your actions in saving the lives of the 5 Universes in the upcoming war, will do that."
Breathing heavily, Seraphina turned her back on him and walked over to Nia, letting King Arion slowly and painfully begin naturally healing on the floor behind her.
Nia let out a long sigh, though she didn't reprimand her friend further. "Are you finished?"
"For now," Seraphina muttered, brushing off her tunic. "We have bigger problems. I made it back using an underground transit system that Saber introduced to me. It's the only way to efficiently travel around the Land of Spade since its true scale is so incomprehensibly massive."
"Did you see any sign of The Judge or their armies on your way?" Commander Vex asked urgently, stepping forward.
Seraphina shook her head. "No. I didn't spot The Judge or the 6 Kingdoms down there, so I don't know their current location or their distance to Fort Vigilance."
"Do not worry about that," Nia reassured her. "Our Elite Scout Mages are maintaining constant vigilance. They are on the lookout for any hint of their approach."
"Good," Seraphina said. Reaching deep into her scorched cloak, she pulled out a pulsating, synthetic gem that radiated an eerie, artificial green light. She held it out. "Because I brought a souvenir."
Nia and Vex stared at the Power Stone. The sheer, unnatural mana leaking from it made the air feel heavy.
Nia’s eyes widened in realization. "Hurry," the Queen ordered. "We need to get that to Solari immediately."
The two rushed out of the Rulers Quarters, navigating the metallic corridors until they reached Captain Solari’s primary lab. The heavy blast doors slid open to reveal a room packed with the most advanced technology in the universe.
Shockingly, Captain Solari Lyra was slumped over her main terminal, taking a nap amidst the hum of her supercomputers.
The overwhelming magical presence of the two entering the room jolted her awake. Solari shot up, wiping a bit of drool from her chin and blinking against the bright lights. "I'm awake! The quantum shields are fine!" she babbled defensively, before realizing who had entered. "Oh. Your Majesties."
"No time for sleep, Solari," Seraphina said, dropping the glowing Power Stone onto the reinforced examination table. "We need to know exactly what this is and how to disable it."
Solari instantly shook off her grogginess. Her eyes lit up with scientific fervor as she examined the pulsating gem. She quickly typed a sequence into her holographic interface, preparing the lab’s containment fields to isolate the stone's volatile energy.
Seraphina crossed her arms, watching the young genius work. "Is it really possible to find out that kind of complex, magical information just by analyzing it with machines?"
Solari let out a confident, ringing laugh. "Are you doubting the Head of the Science Division? Please. My Technomancer's Arsenal allows me to bend science to my absolute will."
Solari’s hands blurred across the holographic keyboards as she activated her Quantum Analysis, breaking down the stone's energy signature at a sub-atomic level.
Almost immediately, lines of data began rapidly appearing on the massive main screen:
Abilities:
- 1. Consciousness Override and Mind Control: The Power Stone is a synthetic gem that pulsates with immense, stolen mana. When combined with the magical signatures and essence data harvested by the Kingdom guards' crystal scanners, the stone can completely override a person's consciousness.
- 2. Puppet Army Creation: Victims under the stone's control have dull eyes that glow with a faint, artificial green light, and they are forced to move and fight in perfect, unquestioning unison according to the wielder's commands.
