By the time Daniel realised he was attending the wrong funeral, he had already eaten two meat pies.
He checked the invitation again. Same date. Same venue. Wrong name.
Unfortunately, the family had noticed him.
“Who are you?” an elderly woman whispered.
Daniel panicked. “A friend.”
“Of the deceased?”
He glanced at the coffin. “Very much so.”
She burst into tears and hugged him.
Things got worse when someone handed him a microphone.
“Would you like to say a few words?”
Daniel stood, sweating.
“He was… a wonderful man. Always there for people. Never borrowed money without returning it.”
A man in the front row nodded appreciatively.
Daniel continued, gaining confidence. “And his cooking? Unforgettable.”
The widow fainted.
Apparently, the deceased had been a terrible cook.
After the service, Daniel was invited to the family house for refreshments.
He accepted.
At this point, leaving would be rude.
