INTRODUCTION
The Day She Chose Herself
Bidemi had always believed that love was supposed to be selfless.
She believed that when you truly loved someone, you stayed. You forgave. You understood. You sacrificed. You made excuses for their mistakes and celebrated their happiness as though it were your own.
That was the kind of woman Bidemi was.
She was always there.
When her friends needed someone to listen, she listened. When they needed help, she showed up. When they needed encouragement, she gave them words of hope. She remembered their birthdays, celebrated their achievements, comforted them through heartbreak, and stood beside them when everyone else walked away.
She did not do these things because she expected something in return.
She did them because she loved them.
The same was true of her relationship.
Bidemi loved her man with everything she had. She believed in him. She supported his dreams. She defended him when people spoke against him. She forgave him when he disappointed her. Even when his attention began to change, she convinced herself that every relationship had difficult seasons.
She kept trying.
She kept giving.
She kept hoping.
But there is a dangerous thing about giving too much of yourself to people who do not know your value.
One day, you wake up and realize that you have spent so much time taking care of everyone else that you have forgotten how to take care of yourself.
That was exactly what happened to Bidemi.
The people she loved began to mistake her kindness for weakness.
Her availability became something they expected.
Her sacrifices became ordinary.
Her forgiveness became something they took for granted.
They knew Bidemi would always answer the phone.
They knew she would always come when they called.
They knew that no matter how badly they treated her, she would eventually forgive them.
So they stopped appreciating her.
They stopped seeing the woman behind all the sacrifices.
They saw what she could do for them, but they forgot to ask what she needed from them.
Until one day, Bidemi finally became tired.
Not angry.
Not hateful.
Just tired.
There is a kind of tiredness that sleep cannot cure. It comes from constantly giving your heart to people who keep returning it bruised.
Bidemi reached that point.
And for the first time in her life, she asked herself a question she had been afraid to ask:
"What if I choose myself this time?"
The question changed everything.
She began to understand that loving people did not mean losing herself for them.
Being a good friend did not mean allowing people to disrespect her.
Being a loving partner did not mean accepting every form of neglect.
Forgiving someone did not mean giving them unlimited opportunities to hurt her.
And walking away did not mean she had stopped caring.
Sometimes, walking away simply means you have finally learned that your peace matters too.
So Bidemi made a decision.
She left.
She left behind the relationship that had exhausted her heart.
She stepped away from the friendships that only existed when people needed something.
She stopped explaining herself to people who had already decided not to understand her.
She stopped chasing people who were comfortable watching her walk away.
And most importantly, she stopped trying to prove that she was worthy of love.
At first, the silence was painful.
She missed the people she had spent so much of her life caring for.
She missed the memories.
She missed the familiar conversations.
She even missed the version of herself who believed that everything could be fixed if she just tried harder.
But slowly, Bidemi began to heal.
She discovered new dreams.
She found new strength.
She began building a life that belonged entirely to her.
And while she was rebuilding herself, the people she had left behind began to understand what they had lost.
Her friends began remembering every time she had been there for them.
Her former lover began remembering every sacrifice she had made.
They finally understood that the person they had treated as ordinary had been extraordinary.
They wanted her back.
They wanted to apologize.
They wanted to make things right.
But there was one problem.
Bidemi had moved on.
The woman they were searching for no longer existed in the same form.
She was no longer the woman who would abandon herself just to keep other people happy.
She had learned her worth.
She had learned boundaries.
She had learned that sometimes the greatest revenge is not hurting the people who hurt you.
It is becoming so happy, so successful, and so at peace that their absence no longer matters.
The Missing Angel is the story of Bidemi's journey from unconditional giving to self-discovery.
It is a story about the pain of being taken for granted, the courage to walk away, the strength to rebuild, and the realization that true love should never require you to destroy yourself.
Because sometimes, people only realize they had an angel in their lives after the angel has already flown away.
And sometimes, the person you have been searching for all your life is the person you forgot to become:
