We bid farewell to the last rays of sunshine at the end of summer. The rainy and windy season is upon us. We are entering autumn; if it isn’t raining, it’s about to start. To be honest, I hate this season because it’s too cold for me. The sky is overcast all day long, and the days have become very short.
In the evening, by 6 o’clock, it’s already dark and the wind is blowing very strongly. It’s difficult to use an umbrella, because when the wind blows it often turns inside out and carries us along with it – it’s far too dangerous. We’re forced to walk in the rain, even if it isn’t raining too heavily, but after 15 minutes we’re soaked. And even though I was wearing a down jacket, by the time I get to class, I’m soaking wet, my jacket is almost completely wet, and I’m freezing. I get the impression there are only two seasons: it’s either summer or winter. After summer, it’s straight into the rain, and then straight into the bitter cold.
I, too, like Belgium, but I don’t like the weather here. The year I arrived, it snowed almost two metres. Now the climate has warmed up, but summer is longer and there’s more and more good weather. I wonder whether global warming is good for Belgium or not? It seems to me that winters are less cold and summers are longer. Now there are more and more sunny days. So I really do wonder whether climate change is beneficial for Belgium.
Of course, I’m a bit selfish. But I do like good weather; I like the sun and the sunshine. So I’d like summer to be longer; even though it gets hot, the heatwaves are very short – after two or three days, the rain comes and cools things down, and then it’s back to sunshine and fine weather. All I want is for summer to be longer and winter to be shorter in Belgium.
